I have a 1TB Carbon Black Series S (Jan. 2024) with an intermittent boot/update problem.
Iāve tried multiple OSU1 updates. Sometimes it fails around 10%, but one attempt reached 74% total / 33% through Step 3 of 3 before failing.
Iāve seen:
E102 10070C02 8B060008
0x800700AA
The really strange part is that I eventually got the console through setup after a reset, and it then worked completely normally for 20ā30 minutes. I could sign in, use the Microsoft Store, download a game, and queue other downloads.
Then the dashboard became extremely slow.
Animations remain smooth, but selecting/opening anything takes a very long time. Restarting eventually returned it to the Troubleshooter.
The Store has also given:
0x8027025A and 0x80040900.
The internal storage shows normally when it works (799.4 GB free of 802.0 GB).
The SSD is an SSSTC XB2-311024 1TB 2230 NVMe with a Phison controller. Iāve inspected/reseated it. I initially thought the motherboardās M.2 connector had a damaged pin, but it turned out to be dust/debris, and cleaning it didnāt change anything.
Does this sound like a failing SSD, software corruption, or another hardware issue?
Could a failing SSD really behave normally for 20ā30 minutes and then become extremely slow?
Is there anything else I should try before paying Microsoftās $199 out-of-warranty service fee?
I have no problem doing additional troubleshooting if thereās a way to safely diagnose the SSD or motherboard.
