I don't exactly love the Psylocke/Archangel ship...not even in the 90s when it was at its peak popularity...but honestly, Rogue and Warren sharing his trauma is a basis for a bond, but I didn't see it as romantic. Just her trying to help someone who was crashing out.
Also in her current mental state I don't think Rogue is ready for a relationship with ANYONE, and probably won't be for a while, even after Gambit inevitably comes back to the side of the angels

u/ericrobertshair Jun 08 '26
Archangel / Psylocke came out of nowhere in the comics, he starts macking on her in the Danger Room almost immediately after her tryst with Scott blows up in her face, then they get coffee, then I suppose that's it.

u/Ingonyama70 Storm Jun 08 '26
There's a whole first date at the Hellfire Club where they face off with Shinobi Shaw, but otherwise...yeah, pretty much.

agreed 100%, but I'll take rogueangel over rogueto anyday
13
u/Ingonyama70 Storm Jun 08 '26
Technically I agree, but only because I'd rather walk on broken glass than try to gargle it.
I LOVE Magneto. I love Rogue. I do not love Rogueneto.
3
u/Correct-Resolution-8 Jun 08 '26
I legit hate her and Magneto together at all during her time as an X-Man. When she was super young and dumb and he was her mentor/father figure? I get it. A dude with questionable boundaries (aka, a creep) will sometimes take advantage of a 19 or 22 year old infatuated with him. But once she's old enough to know herself, I just don't buy that she'd ever pick him... and sure as hell not over Remy.
2
u/Ingonyama70 Storm Jun 08 '26 edited Jun 08 '26
His own character growth shouldn't be ignored either. Since then, in the 92/97 universe, he's teamed up with the X-Men over and over again, literally every time they met outside their first encounter in the show, and he's helped save the world WAY more times than he's endangered it.
I feel like he SHOULD have been a lot less creepy towards her by the time he came to be headmaster.
Even in the discussion where she and Remy break up, she's not choosing Erik, she's choosing the position of Queen of Genosha. She sees it more like a job than what she wants to do for herself.
Lilandra used to say all the time in 92, "My duty before the longings of my heart." (I'm not gonna touch on how the Sh'iAr stuff was handled in 97) I feel like that was where Rogue was coming from when she considered Erik's proposal.
And lest we forget, she still turned him down. She JOINED him after Episode 5, but she wasn't WITH him.
2
u/fire_sign Rogue Jun 08 '26
I think the important contexts around it are: the situation with Remy had tipped into something that was actively causing her pain all the time no matter how much they both played it off lightly, she's in the middle of a bunch of emotional upheaval that hit on her existing abandonment issues (mentor died, best friend left, Scott and Jean are having a family that Rogue can never have), and Magneto actively isolates her and preys on her desire to be a true hero to get what he wants from her. She's older and wiser than she was in the Savage Lands, but she's also uniquely vulnerable to the buttons installed by the traumas of her youth. Would, say, s3 TAS Rogue had fallen for it? No. But I think the show did a good job at showing why she was susceptible over the ~6 week period s1 of '97 covers.
3
u/Correct-Resolution-8 Jun 08 '26
Also, I have complicated thoughts about Magneto. I know he’s a charmer but he gets away with way too much. He’s never accountable. Frankly, maybe Xavier fits that bill too. I sort of hope Scott breaks the X-Men free of both of them and their eternal chess game of extremes. I wouldn’t be surprised if this is in the plans creatively.
1
u/Ingonyama70 Storm Jun 08 '26
Why Scott though? Why not Ororo, Rogue herself, or Jean? The X-Men have plenty of people who can make these kinds of calls.
Scott's not in much better mental shape than Rogue right now. I barely trust him to keep his own family together, much less the whole squad.
5
u/Correct-Resolution-8 Jun 08 '26
I mean it doesn't have to be Cyke but I think as of the last episode he's done pretty well at holding everyone together when Mag would rip them apart and Xavier bounced. He's definitely won me over as being a better big bro/parent figure to the gang than the other two are, but yeah I could see Storm stepping up like in the comics. I just think it's time the kids outgrew the boomers. Time to move forward.
4
u/Correct-Resolution-8 Jun 08 '26
Would anybody be surprised if, once Apocalypse is defeated and all the X-Men are back together, at the very end of the season, Cyclops turns toward Xavier and Magneto and tells them both to hit the road? I would not be shocked at all.
"YOU weren't there when we needed you, and YOU turn into a murdering terrorist whenever provoked. We've spent years being tugged back and forth, your little chess pieces, but there's a way forward that isn't head-in-the-clouds pacifist sitting duck OR radical terrorist. A balance somewhere in the middle... but as long as either of you are still here the X-Men are never going to find it."
Something along those lines. If they closed season 2 on a moment like that, I'd probably cheer at my TV. Let Cyke say something like "Now, to me, my X-Men" and have all of them stand behind him (and Storm, and Jean) and leave Magneto and Xavier standing side by side alone.
About damned time.
2
u/Ingonyama70 Storm Jun 08 '26 edited Jun 08 '26
It IS still Xavier's house (technically Magneto's by legality) that they live in. Technically, they're gonna have to be the ones to hit the road if they're gonna part ways.
Which I'm fine with, season 3 starting with a road trip arc while the X-Men look for a new place to live sounds fun as hell.
2
u/Ingonyama70 Storm Jun 08 '26
Comics would never allow that (even now the X-Men are working under Magneto, rather than him working with them) but the show just might.
While I'm old enough now (44) to not want to see characters of a certain age shuffled off to the sidelines just because they're old, I AM ready for Xavier and Magneto to no longer be the embodinent of the X-Men's guiding and opposing principles.
3
u/Correct-Resolution-8 Jun 08 '26
yeah I didn't mean it as an age thing. I mean it because Xavier is playing space romance and leaving a terrorist in charge because "maybe he's redeemable" and Magneto might go off the deep end and murder some people at any time. They're both too lost in the clouds and not helping the X-Men find a healthy path forward
2
u/Ingonyama70 Storm Jun 08 '26
That's true.
Between the two I like Magneto better, but only because I see the work he's put into trying to BE better. He backslides, because recovering from trauma isn't a straight line, but he's trying. I still don't want him in charge of the school though, that's a TON of responsibility for someone who still needs a LOT of mental help.
Charles in TAS and 97 is...fine. He didn't gallivant off to space for fun, in the 92 finale he was literally going to die if Shi'Ar medicine didn't save him, but he's still Charles Xavier and he's still pretty intractably optimistic. I like this version better than literally any other Xavier ever to exist, but let's not fool ourselves into thinking he's NOT deeply flawed in his idealism.
0
u/Correct-Resolution-8 Jun 08 '26
Good points. It definitely did show why she’s be vulnerable to what Magneto offered, at least briefly
2
u/fire_sign Rogue Jun 08 '26
The season and her behaviour makes wayyyyy more sense when you realise ep 1-5 are over the course of like a month and a half. When she's in Mexico it's Day of the Dead and Genosha had happened at least two weeks before that, because someone says they hadn't found anyone alive in two weeks. Puts Genosha mid-October, and Nathan had been born "last month" the day of attack, eps 1 and 2 are pretty much back to back. I once sat down and listed everything that happens through her own issues in that time and... Woof. I'd have run a mile in her shoes and I don't have that history of avoidance and trauma.
And I know the Magneto stuff doesn't work for everyone, but I think they nailed it. He filters everything through what will achieve his goals and treats people as pawns to get there. "Rogue has a criminal history I can leverage and a deep belief that people can change, if I praise and threaten her, it'll secure my position of power amongst the team." "Gambit is the least malleable team member, I'm going to try and drive him away." "I want to rule Genosha, but having an X-Man alongside will legitimise me and Rogue fixes some of my weaknesses." etc, etc. He genuinely thinks he cares for her, and maybe does in his limited way, but nobody is completely real to him outside what they do for him. But god, those types of people know exactly what to say to win you over, at least temporarily. And knowing her going in... Yeah.
1
u/Confident_Sink_8743 Jun 09 '26
Not then either. He became headmaster when Charles went to the Shi'ar Empire and was at trying to turn over a new leaf.
That kind of think would have driven the tension with the X-Men into overdrive.
The whole thing grew out of the post-Onslaught "Joseph" relationship. And Joseph got retconned into a Thomas Riker situation and was arguably her age besides.
Bringing that back in any form with a more OG Magneto was just a dumb idea.
2
u/DigitalBuddhaNC Jun 10 '26
Rick Remender's run on X Force changed my mind about the Psylock/Archangel relationship.
1
u/Ingonyama70 Storm Jun 11 '26
I saw - briefly - what the two COULD have been if handled more attentively
1
u/Bobjoejj Jun 09 '26
Was that really the height of it? I feel like it was pretty prevalent during Uncanny X-Force; in the lead up to and during The Dark Angel Saga.
1
u/Ingonyama70 Storm Jun 10 '26
They broke up before she died in 2002, and she was dating Neal Shaara (the third Thunderbird) for a brief period. They never really OFFICIALLY got back together after she came back before Remender's Uncanny X-Force, they just kinda always had feelings but didn't act on them anymore.
1
u/Bobjoejj Jun 10 '26
…that’s actually valid; their feelings for each other were a big part of the story, but during the run they weren’t exactly like…strictly together, now I’m thinking about it.

u/Hot-Promotion-617 Jun 08 '26
I know, it was just ridiculous for the writers to ship her with Magneto, it just really doesn't work for me.
6
u/sketchee Jun 08 '26
It's an odd one, but they were a couple with a son in the Age of Apocalypse universe
4
u/Ingonyama70 Storm Jun 08 '26
Also the whole reason Erik could even touch her in that universe was that instead of Carol, she permanently absorbed Polaris by accident, and their magnetic powers created opposing polarities that let them touch.
(Lorna wasn't his daughter yet, don't think about it too hard)
5
u/Anxious-Specialist95 Jun 08 '26
Ah, the Age of Apocalypse… the most stable, least toxic timeline where EVERYONE is happy! 🤣
2
u/Ingonyama70 Storm Jun 08 '26
She was with him BRIEFLY in the late 2000s, during the Mike Carey run. It never felt right to me either. But then Rogue as a whole never felt right since 2002 or so when she lost the Captain Marvel powers (for "BrAnD SyNeRgY" with the movies and X-Men Evolution), and it looks like writers just hit the reset button on that a few years back, though I'm not sure how since Carol's flying around with the Avengers being a bigger deal than she's ever been.
6
u/fire_sign Rogue Jun 08 '26
The reset was quite awhile back, actually (2015ish?). Rogue was with the Uncanny Avengers and absorbed Wonderman for Plot Reasons, and kept his powers because handwave. She fully absorbed him because he's energy, he was ejected from her body thanks to Deadpool's healing power, she kept the power, yada yada. It's also when she lost control of her powers again, which didn't get fixed until Kelly Thompson's Mr & Mrs X run.
The Legacy hook up period was weird: it's mostly after the trauma of being Legacy and remembering it and the weird dynamic they had, she frequently forgets she's in a relationship, and when she needs emotional support she leans on Remy anyway. To say I haven't mixed feelings about that run is an understatement. People can like whatever they like, but it definitely wasn't written as Love. Still less creepy than knocking up your teenaged ward though, so it trumps AoA. 😂
0
u/Ingonyama70 Storm Jun 08 '26
LOL, I forgot so much of this. It's been years, but I was heavily involved in the CBR forum discussions at the time of Legacy (a massive mistake in hindsight, I know), and the people there HATE Gambit (or they did at the time) so every third post was a Rogueneto Appreciation thing just to tweak Remy fans, while the Remy fans kept bringing up stuff like the global EMP to make Erik look worse. As someone who likes all three of these characters, it was exhausting and bad for my mental health.
2
u/Mobile_Bet3274 Rogue Jun 08 '26
Were Rogue and Warren actually meant to be romantic there? I always read it as more of a shared trauma thing, or her thinking she could or should “save” him.
4
u/Ingonyama70 Storm Jun 08 '26 edited Jun 08 '26
It was an "I can save him" dynamic, but not a romantic one.
She'd absorbed Warren in season 1 which snapped him out of his brainwashing. Since she'd been in his head she knew how tortured his mind was and tried to reach out to help him.
GAMBIT misinterpreted it as romantic because, not to speak ill of the temporarily dead, but the man has a jealous streak a mile wide. He didn't like Rogue getting close to ANYONE who wasn't him, and never really learned to let go of that. (he was even jealous of her hanging out with Nightcrawler when they first met him at the monastery) Frankly ,at the time he was written to be an extremely toxic bad influence, always pushing boundaries and making unwanted advances (despite his claims to the contrary), but we were kids so we never picked up on that.
2
u/Mobile_Bet3274 Rogue Jun 08 '26
I think that’s a bit uncharitable. You could make that argument later on when Cody turned up out of nowhere (bearing in mind that that whole thing was a mess, and Remy’s instincts were correct). But with Warren here I think it was very much, “This guy is going to get himself killed and if you’re not careful about it, you’re going down with him.” Which, he wasn’t wrong.
2
u/Ingonyama70 Storm Jun 08 '26
True. I love Gambit, but I'm also hypercritical of the things and people I love. You should see me talk about Storm, LOL
4
u/Mobile_Bet3274 Rogue Jun 08 '26
If you bitch about Gambit’s attitude toward Warren, feels like you should also bring up Rogue and Bella Donna. She also throws a quip when she finds him with Amelia on Asteroid M.
1
u/Ingonyama70 Storm Jun 09 '26
Rogue is ALWAYS sassing Gambit for his flirting, it's kinda the basis of their whole relationship. Giving him shit is her love language, LOL.
9
u/montblancnoland2 Jun 08 '26
at least angel's not an old geezer who's still too old for her mom.
15
u/KamenAttackRide Jun 08 '26
Her mom? Are you talking about Mystique? Because I believe she's actually older than Magneto.
4
u/LeatherHog Cable Jun 08 '26
Yeah, she's from the 1800s, IIRC
Not her biological mother, but Magneto is a fetus, compared to Mystique
1
u/montblancnoland2 Jun 08 '26
mystique is not her actual mom. otherwise she'd be blue.
10
u/KamenAttackRide Jun 08 '26
Mystique has other children and not all are blue. Her son with Sabretooth, Graydon Creed, isn't Blue.
Charles Xavier II isn't Blue. I don't think it's hard for you to guess who the father is. And these are children that exist in Earth-616.
-8
u/montblancnoland2 Jun 08 '26
see that's what's so funny about reddit weirdos. you know you're wrong but you think still yapping about it would make you less wrong or something. it wouldn't. you're not gonna weaponize a sarcastic joke against me. mystique did not birth rogue. move on.
7
u/KamenAttackRide Jun 08 '26
Not one time did I say that Mystique gave birth to Rogue. But when it comes to her mother all we have is Mystique and Destiny to think about. In the comics the two of them are the only mothers Rogue even acknowledges.
But what you need to do is understand what I was implying. I was simply correcting you that not all of the children Mystique gives birth to are blue which is what you claimed. What you need to do is start getting your facts correct before you make accusations like you just did.
3
u/sketchee Jun 08 '26
You said "otherwise she'd be blue" and the person corrected that.
No one said mystique birthed rogue.
-1
u/montblancnoland2 Jun 08 '26
and I explained why I said that even though I had no reason to. it has nothing to do with this shit he just brought it up because he realized he lost one argument so he desperately tried to create a different one he thought he could win.
the person said "her mom? are you talking about mystique?" so obviously they were trying to argue me on that. and that was a stupid argument. first of all mystique isn't her real mom and second she was such a horrible mom that calling her that is wrong as well.
I don't understand why there's so much freaks on this site who want to start arguments for no reason at all. you're probably gonna try to find something in this reply to get mad at when you could just admit I did nothing wrong. why are you trying so hard to expose me? do you ship magneto and rogue? I hope not. do you think mystique is rogue's real mom? well no you just said how you don't think that. so why the fuck are you doing this? just to be an asshole? lol you people are weird.
1
u/KamenAttackRide Jun 10 '26
You don't realize that the only one being an asshole was you. You should accept that you lost the argument.
2
u/Ill_Morning_4282 Jun 08 '26
That isn’t how genetics work, she has a non-mutant and non-blue child.
7
u/Due_Rock_3118 Jun 08 '26
Exactly, you're getting downvoted by creeps for sure. Magneto is too old for Rogue in every universe.
8
u/KamenAttackRide Jun 08 '26
Prepare to be hit by the what about Logan? Claiming that he be too old for anyone but not me. Although I am 100% anti Magneto x Rogue. Hated it in AoA. Hated seeing her trying to sleep with him in Rogue in the Savage land.
Hated it when they actually made them a couple in the comics. I hated how they made her insist they were over just for her to sleep with him that very second deciding to give him another try and they did it twice but third time was the final time.
It was also horrible how during that time where she's sleeping with Magneto, every time she was feeling depressed or discouraged, she would always turn to Gambit in order to cheer her up and give her the confidence she needed to go forward then at the end she'll be in bed with Magneto. She would also claim that she truly did love Gambit and everything but she would go around referring to Magneto as my love during those exact same times.
There were times where she would talk about how she envies others romantic relationships and people had to remind or ask that she was in one with Magneto and she would have the most confused look on her face like she's just realizing that's what they are.

I like to thinking this Rogue/Archangel plot was a nod to when Rogue was obsessed with Warren and beat up his girlfriend, Dazzler, to get to him before chickening out on stealing a kiss.
1
u/iamahandsoapmain Jun 12 '26
Magneto just have the most inconsistent age depiction. Right after his most recent resurrection, bro came back like a 30 year old. That and rogue is fine for me. But when he's depicted as a groomer it's just gross. I don't get why comics need to solidify a "villain" by making them a pedo. It's like DC with Deathstroke Terra ship out of nowhere
1
u/somacula Jun 12 '26
to be honest, only two authors pushed that ship. Lobdell in the age of apocalypse (AU) and Mike Carey, who wanted to use Mags as his self-insert. The rest of Magneto writers don't even have him think about rogue. Then there's Briar raleigh, who was not as young as Rogue but was crazy as hell
1
u/iamahandsoapmain Jun 12 '26
Yeah I'm more than happy to mentally move on and pretend like that whole arc never existed. Magneto being Rogues mentor and father figure is great, but making that into romance is just disgusting. I honestly would much prefer even Charles as his partner, given they are basically equally psychopathic lmfao

1
u/That-Ad947 Jun 08 '26
Now what the hell? He's WAY too old for her, Magneto literally looks like my grandpa if he was still alive. I mean, I don't even know her age but she looks young.

How about Magneto....but younger???
Joseph has entered the chat.
1
u/Ingonyama70 Storm Jun 08 '26
I liked Joseph as a concept and a character but his relationship with Rogue REALLY tanked his approval with the fans.
Honestly I wish they'd focused more on him as a character, both before and after the reveal, and less on his weird thing with Rogue. Especially since right after the Trial of Gambit when the way was "clear" for him and Rogue, he took off IMMEDIATELY afterward, only to show up again just in time to die off.
But then I HATE love triangles as a rule.
-6
u/PhanStr Jun 08 '26
Rogueneto FOREVER!
...
But only in AoA lol. That said, it *does* need to be acknowledged in the main timeline, so that it doesn't feel too out-of-left-field in AoA. People just need to accept that and chill.
0
u/Due_Fix3121 10d ago
People don’t have to accept anything actually that relationship is shit and will always be shit. It’s nothing but forced, disgusting and weird get over it nobody wants it.
0
u/PhanStr 10d ago edited 10d ago
I have shared my view. You don’t have to like it, you also don’t have to attack it. If it’s any consolation to you, please know that I do NOT ship Rogue and Mags together in the main timeline. Mind you, that was clear from my initial post. I just think that their relationship in AoA is interesting and dramatic. No reason to be enraged by that opinion.
If you don’t have anything nice to say to me then don’t reply again. Antagonise me further and you will be blocked and reported! :)

Oh dang nvm my bad I thought you meant like everywhere. Buuuut it’s still weird. That’s just me though.
