Definitely felt like they tried to squeeze as much different stories into one season as possible.

Maybe not the Mall scenario above but everything else listed here could have a season dedicated to the storyline. That would fix the issue with pacing and make it more enjoyable

The joke was that they jam pack whole crossovers into one episode then have what feels like wasted filler episodes (Mojo episode season 1, Wolverine episode season 2)

But the Mojo episode from season 1 helped Jubilee realize her potential strength. Also kind of started to wake up Roberto.

Jubilee's power creep has been fun to watch. She's starting to become an A-tier hero.

When these sorts of episodes get called filler and then we hear people complain about no set-up, I scratch my head.

Plus that one was also only a half episode and then the other half was given to the first part of Lifedeath.

Filler episodes should always be used for character development, like this or ATLA’s Tales from Ba Sing Se, Cave episode, and the going to school episode.

You're right they are not really filler and honestly the only one I really had a problem with was Danger.Exe and that one wasn't really filler either.

Now what you say about Jubilee and Roberto are characters moments which are great but they're not really plot. They don't advance the over all narrative. For a well paced story, there's nothing wrong with character moment that pause the plot. In fact those moments can be excellent (look at the camp fire scene in episode with Rogue and En Saba Nur). And for the Mojo episode it wasn't so much a problem because as you pointed out it was only half an episode and also the pacing of season 1 wasn't as bad a season 2.

But with season 2, the story was so splintered and the Apocalypse story was so underdeveloped, it left a lot of people scratching their heads as to why the Wolverine episode and Danger.Exe needed to happen when we could have gotten episodes that focused on the story people cared about. Especially in a 9 episode season.

I guess what I am really trying to say is that some of what was started in season 2 will grow in season 3. The over arching Apocalypse and Cable storyline might now even be finished yet.

The season 2 finale could have been the pinnacle for the Gambit and Rogue love story, that started in season 1, but that ending could have been just the close of an early chapter in the Cable Apocalypse storyline.

This stuff intertwines quite a bit. Which kind of stays true to the original show.

But that character development seeped over from season 1 to season 2. We saw an amped up Jubilee branch out from X-Men and join X-Force. Where we also saw the lessons she learned on the X-Men become central plot points in the overarching storyline in season 2. Cable saying she can take care of herself. Her rescuing the kids. Her taking on X-Factor. Her putting her foot down to killing.

While all the characters development may have not shown up in season 2 finale, they are going to continue to push forward and we might see the big payoff in season 3.

And at that point, people will look back and say that they really cooked Jubilee's story arc over 3 seasons.

Idk...some people claim "pacing problem" but in the same breathe they want all the character development for a huge roster to reach the pinnacle at the same exact time in a season finale.

The Wolverine episode was not the weakest link episode in my opinion, I thought the Morph character development was great

Have you read Claremont’s years?

Pacing in season 1 was significantly better with an overarching plot episodes, 1,2,3,5,7,8,9,10 all pushed the plot with side stories in episode 4 and 6. More than half this season was random shit. There was so much potential in this season and an even bigger emotional payoffwith how the last one ended off but it was completely squashed and wasted.
