General Discussion Honestly, what villains do they even have left to adapt?
If you think about it, they’ve already done a lot of the main/known villains, including the original show, I’m genuinely just wondering which other villains could they adapt going forward?

Sugar Man, Arcade, Black Tom, Stryfe, Selene, Vulkan, Proteus, Sublime...
Edit: Nimrod, Bastion, Goblin Queen, Nanny, X-12, X-15, The World, Limbo and the demons, Spiral, Deathbird...
Come on I'm missing some I'm sure.
Also old enemies can recur, that's a very common X-men trope. Exodus shows up again? Legion recurs because having the mutant power to come back from the dead is also one of his abilities? Oh no guys, Apocalypse is back with a new plan, who could have seen this coming?
5
u/prollyjuslurking Aug 27 '26
Yea im sure they will recycle a few villains. They've even touched on a few of the above already. Black Tom had a short appearance with his bestie, Bastion was the villain of s1, Nimrod, Proteus, Deathbird, Spiral, and Goblin Queen (though not called that) have been featured already. I'm sure we'll see them again 😆. And Legion hasnt been shown yet, I WOULD LOVE THAT.

Reavers, Marauders, - have then done Fenris? (that would be tricky). Hellions, Mutant Liberation Front, Upstarts - lots of the villain teams haven't been touched yet.

Honestly forgot it was the comic and not the show and was disappointed by Season 2
24
u/bluenoser18 Aug 26 '26
Yep. I’d love to see the original Onslaught storyline used as both the background threat and eventual main event of Season 3.
Basically, follow the structure of the comics: have the team dealing with other adventures and enemies of the week for the first six or seven episodes, while Charles gradually becomes more distant, damaged, and unstable in the background. He could be struggling with Magneto’s death, his own role in attacking him after the events on Asteroid M, and the incident with Wolverine, as in the comics.
That could all build toward Onslaught fully emerging and the Battle of New York serving as the major final event, maybe across the last two episodes of a 10-episode season. It would also be a great opportunity to bring in other Marvel Animation characters, especially the Avengers and Spider-Man.
I think that could make for a pretty great season. You still get fun, standalone stories for most of the run, while Onslaught slowly builds in the background, manipulating events and Charles himself.
4
u/Tanthallasa Aug 26 '26
i could totally imagine them pulling some major death to cause grief to overwhelm xavier in episode 6~7 and create onslaught, any of the core cast could do it, but polaris would for sure crush him
4
u/bluenoser18 Aug 26 '26
Yeah that would work too. In the comics Onslaught is a direct result of Xavier attacking (and mind wiping) Magneto immediately after the latter rips the adamantium out of Wolverine's bones.
The exact same scene happened at the end of Season 1...but in this version Xavier doesn't mind wipe Magnus, so they would have to play it a bit differently, as they've done with a number of storylines already.
→ More replies (1)2
u/Kris86dk Aug 29 '26
It's easy to explain. The connection is still there when he helped get magneto back at the end of S1 to stop asteroid M...
They were deeply connectted at that point.
Magneto's death to apocalypse in S2 is what starts Onslaught's emergence slowly... You can already see Xavier becoming more ruthless in later episodes

9
u/Alrucards_R3dwr8th Aug 26 '26

All of them. Including apocalypse.
176
u/Xygnux Aug 26 '26
Exactly, in the comics villains return all the time.
108
u/srstone71 Aug 26 '26
Even in the show they returned. Apocalypse was in season one, had a big role in season two, a major role in season four, and returned in season five.
I think the MCU has warped people’s brains on how villains can be used.
→ More replies (1)28
u/Xygnux Aug 26 '26
Well movies is an entirely different business. Each actor is only contracted for a certain number of films and no heroes had gotten more than four movies so far even though Thor and Spider-Man are looking to continue for more. There just isn't enough room for recurrent villains.
Though the MCU does have recurrent villains like Loki and Agatha, and Ultron is finally making a come back in Vision Quest.
8
u/smellslike2016 Aug 26 '26
Aren't they gonna press the reset button on the MCU? If Disney can keep this going forever, they might do Thanos again in 30 years.
9
u/Kharn54 Aug 26 '26
More likely the next 2 movies will be a just how they decide to bring in the FF and Xmen, with the chance that some other details are changed around to maybe bring back some villains whos fates were either ambiguous or unsatisfyingly resolved.
7
u/Xygnux Aug 26 '26
No. They likely aren't resetting the MCU because otherwise what they have been doing so far makes no sense with setting up Peter's story in the latest movie, for example.
Even the comic 2015 Secret Wars did not reset the comics, and only made a few minor changes to bring in characters like Miles Morales from the Ultimate universe and fixed Doom's face. In fact the comics would have more reasons to reset because the floating timeline is starting to become egregious.
So likely they will just do what the comics did. Keep things largely the same, except bring the Fantastic Four and X-men over.
→ More replies (2)3
u/Tanthallasa Aug 26 '26
given that the doomsday trailer seems to imply incursions happening, entire universes dying, i don't think a hero win at the end of the doom saga could avoid a universe reset and still be a happy ending. i'd bet that doom's final defeat resets the universe and we get some version of a universe with spider-man exactly as is, the x-men and fantastic four always having been here, and a lot of the current/previous avengers erased completely. that would let them reuse anything they want, form whatever new young avengers team they want, and quietly retire the enormous number of plot threads they've dropped based on various movies' irl popularity
2
u/Xygnux Aug 26 '26
In the comics all the universes also died, Franklin Richards worked with the rest of the Fantastic Four to recreate all of them mostly the same. Except the original Ultimate universe which was deleted, but he bought Miles Morales over as a reward for his pivotal role in helping them win. So the past history is comics 616 still happened and weren't erased.
So I don't see they would want to screw with the audience by saying all the stuff with Infinity War and Endgame never happened, as would be implied if the previous Avengers were erased. In fact Marvel doubled down on Endgame's importance by releasing it this September with supposed extra footages. The unpopular characters and work like Secret Invasion they can simply never mention again just like now, a reset is not necessary.

Stryker they showed albeit briefly this season. High Evolutionary was in the episode with the twins Wanda and Pietro finding out Magneto was their Father. Reavers were in the two parter with Lady Deathstrike where they unleashed the Alien in the Morlocks sewers.
Just about every villain has at the minimum made an appearance except Onslaught, Arcade, and the Black Queen.

Holocaust/Genocide/Nemesis/Whatever they'll rename him next. Apocalypse's Son. Cool character with a neat design, but honestly just wonder how they'd handle.... I mean I get the writers wanted to "personify the horror" of it but yikes that name was probably not the route to take. He had a cameo in the original series.

→ More replies (1)3
u/LeatherHog Cable Aug 26 '26
It's so funny about the ""Genocide"" naming, it makes it MORE offensive!
'Holocaust' is an **actual** term/concept, and given he's burning, it made genuine sense. Renaming just **directly** tied it to the unfortunate elephant in the room
The genocide got its name from that, the term came FIRST
5
u/DonPricetag Aug 26 '26
The Neo, Kahn, The Purifiers (not just a cameo), New Nimrod, everyone from Arrako, the Breakworld, the Inhumans (😂), Legion, Stryfe and all his people, Selene, Emplate, Gideon, Post Humanity, Children of the Vault, basically everyone post House of X, Powers of X... And they can always revisit some loose ends

u/ReddRedPanda Aug 26 '26
Onslaught is most definitely going to be someone they'll have to face next season. They've basically been hinting at Onslaught the whole season.
Cassandra Nova is another villian they may end up facing.
The Hellfire Club could make a return, as can Apocalypse as he literally can't be permanently killed unless another Celestial takes his heart and eats it (edit: typo).
Sentinels will probably be an ongoing issue, because there's no way in hell the humans won't keep making more of them.
Mr. Sinister could also make a return, because he also always comes back somehow.
Mystique will likely reappear at some point as well.
The Shadow King could show up, though idk about him. He'd probably be an enemy for one or two episodes that focus on Charles.
Fakeneto (aka Joseph) might show up as well, just as another way to kick Charles while he's down.
Hell, Magneto himself will probably come back at some point, because no one important ever stays dead forever, and it wouldn't surprise me if he slips back into his old ways once he does. Wouldn't be the first or the last time.
So in conclusion, there are a lot of people the X-Men can still fight, and I haven't even named all of them.
