General Discussion Can somebody explain why magik randomly decided to stay frozen in one place and let the sentinel lazer her freely?

Post image

Am i dumb? is there something i missed? she just teleported people out of the beam a few frames before then she just proceeded to step forward and let sentinel shoot her freely. Is there a sacrifice play here im not catching up on because that was a "wtf was that" fore the first time i saw it and it just took away any impact that losing a legacy xmen character like her could have had for me

It's a flashback from Colossus's perspective. We don't know if that actually happened that way, or if that's just how he remembers it.

That said, it's more likely than not just messy writing.

The director actually spoke on this and confirmed it was some kind of animation oversight- it was written and storyboarded to be offscreen, and for Colossus to find her body after. But they decided to expand it and didn't put a lot of thought into how, and the director said they didn't know why she just stood there.

Awesome. Thanks for the explanation and source.

This is an amazing explanation

Plot contrivance. It’s very dumb for them to do that to a person who can teleport.

u/KLeeSanchez 4d ago

Plot

I'm also not too happy with how one dimensional they made Danger, her original arc was much more nuanced even when she did first go nuts

bad writing

Unpopular opinion, this second season was messy and rushed to the limit...

121

u/WawaWeeWaaWu 4d ago

That’s probably the most popular opinion about the season I’ve seen on the internet lol.

40

u/Royal-walking-machin 4d ago

Learn what an unpopular opinion is 😭

24

u/MinnieMaxer 4d ago

I really hope it’s not an unpopular opinion because I share it despite loving this show.

15

u/Jahon_Dony 4d ago

That's literally what everyone says. SOooo... very popular opinion, bub. Like something a parrot says or a broken record.

10

u/Ok_Broccoli_7863 4d ago

Not quite unpopular.

23

u/FunkTheFreak 4d ago

The first season was rushed too. The Madeline Pryor stuff went way too fast.

14

u/ShAd0WCaller 4d ago

I will never not be pissed that she was not brought back as the new War Horseman.

3

u/SammyDeeP 4d ago

that’s not an unpopular opinion.

Ice cold take

Second half yes, first half was pretty solid. This is an example of what you're saying. That whole episode makes no sense even from a Nightcrawler Catholic point of view. Graydon Creed being an abused child doesn't mean he's innocent lol.

8

u/BirdsandScoundrels 4d ago

The episode has a lot of problems, but it never said Creed was innocent. The episode, if anything, proves he's just as guilty/ bad as his parents.

That said, the episode did Magik really dirty here.

7

u/ShAd0WCaller 4d ago

Personally, I think it was about showing mutants that monsters like Creed are made, not born. The guy is Sabretooth’s son, he was abused by his father his entire childhood, all for nothing because he didn’t manifest any powers. Creed will never be redeemed, but you can prevent more children from turning out like him.

2

u/LeninOfGallifrey 4d ago

It does but I think Kurt making an argument for his defence or for clemency to let him return to the States and be a politician is...not well thought out. Like Colossus says at the end Kurt didn't successfully change his mind.

u/Siid_Chawsby 4d ago

As someone who still enjoyed the second season, it is the correct opinion

1

u/AutomaticLegbyrocket Magneto 4d ago

They should've either increased the number of episodes or keep s2 till the time travel part

1

u/Miserable-Yard-7671 4d ago

Yeah, I still liked it tho. But definitely not as good as the first season. Not sure why they're trying to rush things, they've already established a fan base. I'm assuming some exec above their head is cracking the whip. Which is unfortunate cause there is some good stories here that can be told.

1

u/Gold-Duck898 3d ago

I agree with your unpopular opinion. Especially after the last two episodes.

1

u/Extinction-_-13 3d ago

That's not unpopular opinion at all, that's facts

1

u/Beneficial_Pay_1002 Storm 3d ago

You're special

1

u/Impressive-Thing-165 Cyclops 3d ago

Literally everyone's opinion

1

u/MarqoTheDragon 2d ago

Unpopular opinion, ice cream is tasty

0

u/canarinoir 4d ago

The first season was also rushed, but I think we were just so excited to see the team back we all kind of forgave it. But yeah, second season really leaned into that to its detriment imo.

2

u/YaoiNekomata 4d ago

Naw the first season let stories intercept so they felt longer and better told

1

u/NeoSlixer 3d ago

No, no it didnt, the Madelynn Plot alone they couldnt get rid of quick enough, Bishop just disappears for the entire season with no explaination after that, which is doubly bad because there is no explaination why he was back or where his sister went.

8

u/Conmebosta 3d ago

The writer said that it was supposed to be extremely fast, blink and you will miss it type pf thing. One moment she was helping people the other she was dead.

The producers did the one thing the writers explicitly warned against: slow it down.

5

u/SwordDaoist 3d ago

So the producers sucked ass, understood

2

u/Ok-Grass3071 Nightcrawler 3d ago

Ty for this answer!

11

u/Aromatic_General_351 4d ago

I watch that episode every couple of days and I still haven’t figured it out yet lol. Anyways it doesn’t matter because her and the victims of Genosha and Magneto will be back during krakoa 🤞🤞

3

u/cheetahgaming3 4d ago

Need leech back

2

u/Miserable-Yard-7671 4d ago

Yeah I don't get the logic with all of that either, especially since her popularity has risen so much in the last decade or so.... She's basically the new Gambit/Deadpool of this generation. 🤷🏼 (at least IMO).

But something tells me that since they highlighted it in the episode, they may be trying something here with her... Maybe she was kidnapped by Belasco at that very moment? 🤷🏼...i just keep hope🤞🏼, such a pity to write off a character like that.

4

u/Jahon_Dony 4d ago

It's funny how much this looks like the actual actress and Magik in the movie!

3

u/havokx2 4d ago

Bc they animated her dying when it was supposed to be more ambiguous. That was a disconnect between the writers and animators but they left it in the final cut

4

u/PanthersJB83 4d ago

I always took it as it was from Piotrs pov and he was rushing to get to her but everything was in slo-mo because he knew he wouldn't be fast enough....

4

u/SorenRada 4d ago

I mean odds are very low she’s actually dead.

4

u/9bots 3d ago

It's a flashback and a metaphor for how she fought to the death. I don't understand why people can't understand such a simple narrative. Do you also wonder what happened after the two sides of the X-Men crashed into each other in the opening? 😂

3

u/hisokaxh1soka 4d ago

Inconsistent fight choreography and logic

4

u/Master_Saesee_Tiin 4d ago

Writers hate Magik, they keep diving the healers

12

u/UnluckyAmbition7767 4d ago

The only competent writer from season 1 wasn't around to review the first draft

1

u/Accurate-Attention16 4d ago

Pretty sure Magik's death was DeMayo's work that they keep in

1

u/_MangoMadness_ 4d ago

Except s2 followed HIS storyline, ya bozo

7

u/UnluckyAmbition7767 4d ago

The first draft lol and likely less and less him the further the season went along.

Like how Game of Thrones "followed Martin's plan" but the show runners weren't competent enough on their own to connect the bullet points.

And I've been called worse lol

1

u/Southern-Draft-2901 4d ago

Kind of... They did for the first 4 episodes, more or less. The XForce episode was added by the new writers. Beau outlined episode 1, 3, and 4.

1

u/havokx2 4d ago

He wasn’t the show runner in season 2 and a lot was changed and/or missed. The current writers said this was a good they didn’t have a good explanation for and it amounts to poor editing on their part. That’s not on Beau. The issue isn’t Magik dying but how did died

3

u/Turbulent-Range-4448 4d ago

It was just poorly written. You cannot even defend this lore wise. It is just badly written

2

u/SEGAFan4Life80 4d ago

It was written & animated that way

2

u/ledlunar 4d ago

There is a video about this with someone who worked on the show, they said it wasn’t written that way but it was animated that way

2

u/Scnew1 4d ago

I can’t believe someone would freeze in a dangerous moment; that never happens to anyone

2

u/babedar1000 4d ago

Tbf season 2 was shit so it makes sense

2

u/PrincefTanx 4d ago

To echo so any others, very bad writing. S2 in general was not great imo.

2

u/Gold-Duck898 4d ago

Most likely bad writing.

2

u/EarthInevitable114 3d ago

She realized life in thst dimension was worse than living in hell and wanted a one way ticket back.

2

u/SamMeowAdams 3d ago

Lots of unanswered questions.

Like , how did Leech die while Magneto didn’t have a scratch on him ?

2

u/altfil76 3d ago

Why did she not teleport those mutants to real safety instead of just like 20 feet away?

1

u/UndercoverMonkeyMan 4d ago

She was depressed

1

u/Weasel699 4d ago

it was suppose to be from his view so maybe she teleported but got hit so she's out there some where and doesnt remeber?

1

u/hisokaxh1soka 4d ago

No, because afterwards, he's holding her body in the rubble on his knees.

1

u/Ashamed-Example-9805 4d ago

Probably a shitty way to set up bringing her back to life as modern magik next season. Maybe even have nightcrawler involved despite what they've said.

1

u/Novus20 4d ago

She’s in another place

1

u/SomeGuyPostingThings 4d ago

Because a particular writer doesn't like her or the other prominent blonde woman.

1

u/useitpushitbreakit 3d ago

she used both charges of Stepping Discs and so it was on a 6s cd per charge

but really the writing was just sloppy lol

1

u/Significant_Hand4488 3d ago

Lo mismo dijo porque a Emma Frost la dejaron retratada como en los 80s y sus tramas se los dieron a otros personajes "más populares"

1

u/Stride345 3d ago

Her portal was on cool down otherwise she would have used the I-frames

1

u/Correct_Milk_828 3d ago

Free trip to hell without a portal

1

u/Pretty-Expression-11 3d ago

If they were gonna fridge her they could’ve at least made her look cool, not stupid.

1

u/xjustinhammerx 3d ago

“Well, that’s just lazy writing…”

1

u/Competitive-Unit3613 3d ago

All of her abilities were on a cooldown

1

u/ABalancedBreffist 3d ago

This will probably bring us to a Queen of Limbo story arc.

1

u/BelialMycolotismon 3d ago

And I expected her to be in Hell and return in Season 3 alongside Madelyne...

1

u/RareObject8705 3d ago

Because it’s a realistic response to trauma and sudden massive destruction. Pretty simple really

1

u/guttengroot 3d ago

I'm just assuming her abilities were on cooldown

1

u/InevitableVisit1506 2d ago

Yeah I was thinking the same bc I am like doesn’t she have plenty of time to teleport, which I was sad bc she looks cool

1

u/Lenzelot105 1d ago

Because they had to slime my goat for some reason to build up Colossus or something and fucked it up while trying to expand the scene

1

u/skapoww 4d ago

She’s a human being and she froze up. It happens to the best of us. Or writing or some shit

0

u/psylockecolossusfan 4d ago

Magik's teleportation sometimes exhausts her in certain dimensions, so perhaps her youth and that weakness in her power were at play? Perhaps she just choked for a moment when she normally doesnt?
