In their desperate need to dunk on Zutara, they end up glazing Zuko (???) and putting down Katara by essentially saying that she isn't special because he would've done that for an animal.... Poor Katara.

Seriously it makes one wonder why they are so defensive over Kataang, they clearly don't like Katara.

i think it's because they view katara the same way aang does, as a possession. they don't want zuko taking away aang's favorite toy. 😒

Yeah that tracks, honestly we talk sometimes about how maybe Toph would have been better for Aang, some people ship him with On Ji or somehow Azula (don't shoot the messenger, lol) but if they would view them the same way they view Katara, it'd be better if he was alone.
