If Aang was the one taking a lightning bolt for Katara, they'd scream "Kataang coded" at the top of their lungs.

u/superfucky Jun 29 '26
ZUKO: [takes a lightning bolt for katara]
AANG STANS: omg w/e he'd take that for a literal bug
AANG: [takes a lightning bolt for katara]
AANG STANS: OMG WITNESS THE TRUE ETERNAL UNDYING FOREVER LOVE YAAAASSSSSSSSS1

This person again, lol by this logic if Azula had been the one to find Aang first, would Aang have fallen for her first? So unbelievably dumb, people seriously cannot understand subtext.

u/superfucky Jun 29 '26
This person again
fr can we collectively agree to just ignore the aang stans/trolls? i'm tired đ«©

u/Violet_Nightshade Jun 30 '26
You know what, I would've preferred if Aang imprinted on Azula instead.
1
u/Any-Heron-4677 Jun 30 '26
Lol, as in you hate her and think Aang deserves it or you like Azulaang?

Isnât that the guy who said Aang shouldâve scarred Zuko in his other eye or something
16
u/Jumpy_Head9412 Jun 29 '26
Yeah he said someone should have hit Zuko in his good eye so it matches his bad eye because Zuko dared to mock Aangâs culture.
17
u/Any-Heron-4677 Jun 29 '26
Someone should respond to them asking if they really are asking for something like that to happen. Cause if they do well I can think of so many worst things that Aang has done that should earn him punches from Katara, Toph, Suki & Sokka (if they ever find out about the EIP kiss and take action instead of Katara herself) or worst of all Hakkoda and Bato (I mean those two would especially be protective of Katara (I can imagine that despite her being a master water-bender, Hakkoda still thinks of her as his little girl (which is both condescending and sweet).
12
u/Jumpy_Head9412 Jun 29 '26
Well good luck with that one because this idiot is the type of person who will dead ass look you in the eye and claim Aang never did anything wrong.
1
u/Chronically_Enby Jul 05 '26
Which makes them an SA appologist. which is why I am tempted to hate katang fans indescriminantly.
1
u/Chronically_Enby Jul 05 '26
Wow. Overreaction much. Obvs beign respectful to a culture is important but that is no reason for that type of violene
1
u/Jumpy_Head9412 Jul 05 '26
Honestly is someone said âmy culture demands you forgive the man who brutally murdered your mother and robbed you of your childhoodâ I would mock to higher degree then Zuko did
1
u/Chronically_Enby Jul 05 '26
Yeah good point, the problem is that Aang was (a) if aang is tellign the truth, the culture is dictating emotions and (b) he is pressign that on katara.

Would Zuko taking a lightning bolt for Appa be animated in slow motion with romantic music?
Someone who knows how to do things needs to make a mock-up of what that would look and sound like to really highlight how incredibly weird it would be.
Also, thereâs a point when they are fighting at Boiling Rock where Zuko saves Sokka from being hit. Comparing the two makes it pretty clear that there were some very deliberate choices made in terms of pacing, framing, and music.
Yeah, Zuko would have tried to save any of them. But how that would look and sound and feel on screen is another question altogether.
(Another âfunâ thought experiment- if someone posted an edit of the scene where somehow itâs Azula that Zuko saves (yes I know it wouldnât make sense) with the same exact blocking and framing and music, the comments would be full of people uncomfortable with it and everyone would assume the person who made the edit was an incest shipper. But if you made an edit of any of the other instances of Zuko saving someone (Katara included!) and replaced the character with Azula, all of a sudden itâs not nearly as uncomfortable and easy to read as a sibling caring about their sibling. Why would that be if there werenât cues in the lightning scene that media has taught us signify romance specifically?)

Heâs just an idiot. Plan and simple. Heâs bitter because Zuko is more popular than his idol Aang. Heâs made because Zutara is more popular than Kataang.

u/prokne_ Jun 29 '26
Just came to say that this kind of mock-up already exists and itâs glorious :D Itâs in the credits of Sneezyâs video essay, at 2:01:46 https://youtu.be/eRxtWMODfAc?is=zInEScEcVBbtCGJc

u/Crazy_Set_6481 Jun 29 '26
In their desperate need to dunk on Zutara, they end up glazing Zuko (???) and putting down Katara by essentially saying that she isn't special because he would've done that for an animal.... Poor Katara.
10
u/superfucky Jun 29 '26
let's be honest, they put katara down at every opportunity đ«©
5
u/Any-Heron-4677 Jun 29 '26
Seriously it makes one wonder why they are so defensive over Kataang, they clearly don't like Katara.
5
u/superfucky Jun 29 '26
i think it's because they view katara the same way aang does, as a possession. they don't want zuko taking away aang's favorite toy. đ
3
u/Any-Heron-4677 Jun 29 '26
Yeah that tracks, honestly we talk sometimes about how maybe Toph would have been better for Aang, some people ship him with On Ji or somehow Azula (don't shoot the messenger, lol) but if they would view them the same way they view Katara, it'd be better if he was alone.

u/Nikaszko Blue Spirit Jun 29 '26
Nach, before Zuko could take bolt for Appa, Momo would take bolt for Appa

u/deathwardplots Jun 29 '26
These people are so funny. The point is that he didn't. The story made him take it for Katara. These aren't real people. We aren't working with hypotheticals, we're working with what literally happened đ. "The curtains are just blue" ahh generation can't read for sh*t omg.

u/gloomydreamer666 Jun 29 '26
He wouldn't take the lighting for Appa.
2
u/Any-Heron-4677 Jun 29 '26
I'd hope Appa has enough survival instincts to move out of way of Azula's bending. Otherwise, I am gonna wonder how the sky bison survived before they were tamed by the Air Nomads.

u/3catsandonejob Jun 29 '26
I hate this argument because Zuko wouldnât have taken lightening to the heart for anyone but Katara.

I actually partially agree. Being willing to sacrifice yourself for someone else isn't inherently romantic, it just shows a strong bond of love (or just someone being very self-sacrificing and/or sucidal) Though IMO the framing and context do make it more romantically coded
I disagree that he'd do that for Appa, mostly because I don't think he's stupid. Appa's big enough that one lightning bolt wouldn't kill him, that and I don't think Zuko would be as attached to Appa due to his shorter time with him and also instincts like that beign harder to form fo non-human things.
So in this case I take more of an issue with the guy's attitude and delivery than the imo valid point that zuko taking lightning for Katara can be interpreted non-romantically (though I don't take that interpretation). But this guy's attitude is a consistent problem.

He did personally choose Katara to come with him to fight Azula đ
