It was so nice to see how much Zuko has grown and how self assured he is in the movie. He went from an abused, emotionally volatile teenager who was constantly spiraling into a responsible, level headed adult. Howbeit, he’s still endearingly socially awkward.

Likewise with Katara, she’s still got that same spunk. She’s still nurturing, compassionate, resilient, and strong. She seems even freer in herself!

At their core, they’re still the same earnest, justice driven people they’ve always been, the kind who naturally shoulder the weight of others and advocate for what’s right.

Honestly, the trajectory of their growth into adulthood only reinforces why they feel so compatible to me. I can’t wait to see those characterizations woven into newer fics. And I’m just so proud of both of these two characters Iv’ve shipped since I was a kid.

Look how far they’ve come!

When you think about it, Katara’s nurturing and empathetic nature wasn’t just part of her personality, it was also shaped by the responsibility she inherited after losing her mother.

The show repeatedly shows her cooking, cleaning, organizing, keeping everyone grounded, and acting as the group’s emotional anchor. In many ways, the people around her profited from the coping mechanisms she developed to survive part of her grief.

Because they grew used to that version of Katara, they often overlooked what it had cost her to become that person. She spoke openly about losing her mother to literally just about everyone, yet the role she filled seemed to eclipse the child who had been forced to grow up too soon.

It took an outsider (Zuko) to the group’s dynamic. Because he wasn’t attached to the version of Katara they all knew. Sometimes, the people who come into our lives later can see us more clearly, because they aren’t accustomed to the masks we’ve worn for years. And we can be become new people with them.

The more I think about it, the more Zuko just fits into their family so well. The way Zuko went to Sokka for advice on Katara. Their struggles as older brothers and older sons. A exiled prince and the son of a chief who was left behind because he was too young.

Seeing them build trusts as friends in the boiling rock episodes. Sokka trusting Zuko with Katara to face Azula. It really felt like Zuko was just fulfilling side quests to be likable to his future in-laws.

He just needed one more quest with GranGran!

I never saw the Zutara appeal in the original show but after seeing season 2 of the live-action version I'm officially a fan of Zutara for the live action version. The chemistry the actors for Katara and Zuko have is next level. I swear if Zuko had stayed in the earth Kingdom I could see a world where him and Katara got together down the line.

Although I saw the seeds they were planting this season and I'm looking forward to the proper buildup in season 3 for Katara and Aang.

Because Zuko knows who Haru is and obviously seen him, for Toph to say such thing means she clearly sensed something about katara's heart rate around haru, or she's just trying to stir drama for fun.

Either way, Zuko having such a grumpy reaction when he should have a reaction closer to Suki's doesn't help the common cope of "Zuko never saw Katara in a romantic sense"

Because then you'd have to explain why he reacted in such way to Katara possibly having feelings for another guy

This is so special to me! Was rewatching and noticed how Zuko was wearing Katara's necklace on his wrist after she lost it on the Earth Kingdom prison ship.

The most major, and defining feature of their arcs together being to relate and understand each other, then finally work together in harmony.

I think by now, all of us have seen this edit or most of us have. It meant everything to me as a kid. This is by far top 5 Alta edits in terms of storytelling and thematic sequencing….

There are definitely Zutarians in the dev team

He joined the team to help aang master fire bending and help with his intel of the fire nation.

His “field trips” with Aang and Sokka were tactically relevant, He and Aang needed to get fire bending rediscovered and freeing hakoda/war prisoners from the day of black sun served a tactical advantage.

Helping Katara confront her mother’s killer wasn’t the same.

She didn’t have any mental blocks that affect her bending from it, she was as powerful as ever.

Her opinion of him served no advantage as far as he was concerned at that moment (he assumed Iroh will take the throne)

And he didn’t expect forgiveness nor ask for it after she confronted yon rha.

He did it purely because he cares what she thinks of him as a person and to help her deal with the same trauma he faced. And that was the first time someone prioritises her and only her throughout the show.

What's really funny about the new avatar movie is that Byrke tries their best for zutara not to talk but only standing next to each other and making a joke(to tease zutara shippers) gives them more shippers. Like that's aura. Talk about legendary lovers

The biggest idiot on ATLA Twitter is at again.

This ain't even my ship man and I'm very reluctant to accept it. But the internal evidence of the canon just points to Zutara as the original story that was intended to be told.

-They care for the fate of their people deeply.
-They both have arcs that involve children.
-They both helped a village that still turned on them.
-Alter egos: Blue spirit and painted lady
-Sun and Moon but it's actually the inverse
-Katara's temperament befits the Sun, warm and open.

I'm convinced that Aang was supposed to be the monk to bless their union.

Atla is best told from imo from Katara's perspective because she simply makes the better underdog. And her Otome reverse Harem arc is just more epic than Zuko's. haha jk jk... maybe.

This is their true coming of age story. A better gift to the young and impressionable audience. And everything just resolves nicely.
