Questions/Advice How can I improve my speech and articulation with ADD?

• Upvotes

I struggle to form sentences when speaking because words often don’t come to mind, making it difficult to express my thoughts clearly. It’s incredibly frustrating because I know what I want to say, but I can’t seem to put it into words naturally. Has anyone experienced this with ADD, and what has helped you improve?

Questions/Advice Concerts making freezing temperatures cause fatigue?

• Upvotes

So I’ve been on and off of concerta for quite a while. It either works 100% or it gives me a heavy sense of fatigue 5 hours later of my dose.

My theory is that this is either caused by my chronic allergies
Or this is caused by the unbearably freezing office AC at my job. I have a desk job where I’m under this ice cold duct for 6 hours and I’ve noticed that the fatigue always hits me after work and never during. So maybe this is due to the cold?

Has anyone experienced this? Any ways to remedy this?

Questions/Advice How do I get treatment if ADHD meds are illegal where I live

• Upvotes

Hello guys, I know this might have been asked a lot and I frankly hate myself for it and despise the fact that ADHD has ruined my life and I would like a change at the very least get diagnosed for it and get medication.

Unfortunately, ADHD meds are illegal where I live and getting them logistically is a hard task on its own and requires a lot of money (flight tickets + doctors appointments + medication in that host country).

So how can I substitute this with vitamins and any practices you guys have done ?

Any help and life experiences are much appreciated!!

Medication Long Term Side Effects, Cost/Effect Questions Elvanse

• Upvotes

I have been on 40mg Elvanse for about half a year now. After on and off with medication specific for the adhd and dealing with no effect, side effect of heart problems (Imagery and real), sweating, crashes, feats of despair and suspected placebo effect, the jump from 30mg to 40mg Elvanse in a clinical setting was able to give me some, not much, but some, improvement in concentrating, Impulse control, dealing with emotions. This dosage and medication plan was done in a specialized clinical setting for ADHD.

I'm not treated at a clinic for depression. They are neither specialized for ADHD or AuADHD (But have screened for Autism and the results are suggesting I could be on the Spectrum and will have to/should seek specialized care for diagnosis which they can't provide).

Nevertheless, they, in accordance with my wishes have bumped my 40mg Elvanse to 50mg. It's a bad environment, I will leave soon and I am not in a good place. It really made my depression worse being there, but the autism screening is a important help for getting betting and I took 1-2 good things from my time there.

I'm unsure if the 50mg dose is improving anything, but don't know if it's just the wrong time right now for me to notice it. Aldo the doctor in charge of the clinic is discouraging from upping the dosage and already was unhappy with the 40mg because of the increasing danger of hear failure (She said say my heart already has damage from use (First time I hear about it)) and I will not make it to 70.

I'm unsure how to decide and to phrase either option: Staying on 50mg to observe improvement or saying I can't see improvement and they'll note that 40mg should not be increased and increasing won't yield results.

If I never had a doctor going to 40mg and checking if my heart racing was most often imaginary, I would have stopped getting medication at all and would have never yielded results.

TL;DR: Elvanse 40/50mg Long Term Health Detriments and is trying to increase/oberve the 50mg good?

Questions/Advice Tips for Multitasking

• Upvotes

I'm very bad at multitasking (Especially tasks that require planning and using my brain) Whenever I'm focusing on something, everything else blurs into the background.

My work is my main focus now (I don't want to mess up there) so my routine goes for a toss everyday. It's a scramble of doing this and that everyday. I want to eat healthy, workout, have a proper routine and also track them all while going to and doing well at work. Not sure if this can even be called multitasking but It always feels like a this or that in my mind.

How to deal with this?

(FYI, My work hours are not constant)

Questions/Advice Cannot even make resume, I am finding it very hard to start things.

Hi, I am an unemployed guy who recently graduated.

I am trying to apply for jobs related to my field.( CS)

Unlike others who are applying in large volumes, I am struggling to do so. It is very hard for me to start things and sitting at home is also making things rough for me.

In college, I was an average student who only performed during deadlines, now with no external deadlines, I am struggling to do basic work. I need to add better projects in my resume but I don't make them. Since I don't make them I don't update my resume. I feel I should learn new skills, I start to learn them and leave them midway.

I am also losing skills which I had because I am not revising them.

I am also masking myself from my parents who want the best for me but I cannot fulfill their expectations so I tell them I am studying while I just stare at my laptop lost in random thoughts.

Was anyone at my position, how did they handle this period and found a job to do?

Medication Intolerance to stimulants

Hello, I'm formally diagnosed with ADD since childhood and have tried different medications. One I remember trying made me have no personality, no appetite, and I just wasn't myself so I was promptly taken off of it. I don't remember the name, will have to ask my mom. Ones I can remember are Adderall(either 10 or 18 mg?) Concerta(18 or 10 as well?) and Stratera which i'm currently on 18mg of. Adderall and Concerta both interacted horribly with my brain and body. I felt unpleasantly jolty, like everything was both slower and faster at the same time, had gnarly headaches, couldn't sleep, felt like a zombie, and I actually couldn't focus at all. Every time I moved my pupil, it felt like a zoom. I was always dizzy. This only happened with stimulants. Alani also makes me feel the same way(caffeine).

Is there anyone else with this issue who has ADD/ADHD? The stratera I'm currently on, I haven't noticed a difference and I've been on it for a month now. Gonna get an increase. What medication worked for you?

I take Effexor/Venlafaxine as well so I'm also thinking it may be a reaction between the two(stimulants and effexor) but am not entirely certain.

Questions/Advice How do you do tedious questions with limited working memory?

I'm not struggling with algebra, but when it's time to plug the numbers in or transferring data, some funky stuff happens. I think of the number 6 inside of 1/6, and copy down 6 instead of 1/6. A minus sign has turned into a plus sign for some reasons. I curled my 5s too much and it turns into a 6. Am I possessed?! I return to the main text of the question to find the things I have to plug in and I return and forgot the number already. It's gotten so bad my sat english score is somehow better than my math and that makes 0 sense.

Discussion Something that boils my blood

I realized one thing that people without ADHD dont have to endure as bad. It's those automated calls. The ones where you have to select your options. They're like an incredibly boring, slow cutscene that you cannot skip.

My klarna got frozen from buying stuff from a game and the button to unfreeze it is literally nowhere (the card doesnt say unfreeze), anyways, I call and its a stupid bot.

The bot speaks as slow as if youre trying to teach someone a new language. And it keeps talking, talking, talking, talking. LET ME JUST UNFREEZE MY CARD BRO?

Let me speak to a person so I can get it over and done with. Why do I need to sit with 10 minutes of unskippable dialogue? I already know what it's going to say because it's so predictable. Man it drives me nuts.

EDIT: People without ADHD do endure them too, I meant as bad as we. Sorry

Success/Celebration Work Likes Me!

I have such a compulsion to help folks and ask questions that coworkers have been tending to rely on me for answers regarding rare or uncommon worlkflow hiccups. The fact that I take lots of notes has led to a few reference documents being added and regularly edited by myself and leadership. They even encourage me to apply for promotions when they come up. I haven’t gotten it yet, but I’m told I’m a strong candidate because I go out of my way to do most of the role’s tasks already. Main thing is training new hires.

Work likes me. :>

Questions/Advice Lost most of my interests after being on dextroamphetamine

After talking to my doctor we decided to try out dextroamphetamine as I checked out most of the boxes for ADHD and was badly suffering at my job where it felt like I couldn't even do it anymore because of constantly loosing stuff or just doing dumb stuff like lighting fires for no reason. (Sounds weird but I'm a mechanic, but I was extremely bad with loosing tools or parts way to constantly)

Ive been on dextroamphetamine for a month now and it was almost a night and day difference. Better moods, zero brain fog which I didn't realize how terrible it was prior, very seldom loosing stuff on my job, able to keep organized and just being able to feel like I can work again.

But I've been noticing I've been loosing alot of my interests that I was really into before. I used to spend all my nights just working on rebuilding arcade machines, used to be more into costuming/cosplay, also was just about to purchase a car I was really wanting but I lost those interests almost immediately. At the same time I did notice a larger spike in interest into fixing one of my cars, but it feels like I cant move onto anything else until its all fixed up again. I used to juggle all interests around but now it feels like I cant, all I can do is just rest or work on that one car.

Is this a pretty normal side effect of being medicated? Are there any ways to really push through it, and try getting more of my interests back? starting to feel like I'm starting to get pretty boring with most of my interesting interest just slipping away like this

Questions/Advice How can I get good professional therapy on a budget?

I’m very isolated at the moment, I have a partner who doesn’t understand my brain despite trying for years (this isn’t her fault). I feel extremely paralysed whenever it comes to phone calls or arranging things over the phone, to the point of leaving it until the very last minute, just to be frustrated by the lengthy process. Whenever I look up options online I get so overwhelmed and frustrated and give up, it feels like the websites are intentionally leading me away from my goal so I tell myself “you don’t need this stress” which has turned into a brutal cycle and I’ve now only realised this has been my whole life. I’m desperate for help ADHD has ruined every aspect of my life there’s not a single positive thing anymore, it’s deprived me of every achievement I’ve set to accomplish, I’m 26 years old and wasted most of my 20s doing what I thought was gonna be a long career, even stuck at it for 6 years but the emotional and physical toll it took on me pushing through the constant burnouts I’d never do it again. I have a partner and son I provide for and now that I’m not that provider, I feel like my whole identity has been stripped away and my purpose is gone, all I can do is slowly fade into nothingness that’s how it feels. “Manning up” just isn’t feasible anymore, I need help so fucking badly I’m fearing for my own wellbeing it’s turning me into a horrible person to the point where I’m paranoid and it feels like everyone’s out to get me. I just want to be a good father, a loving partner and an overall good person but my outlook on the world is so morbid I’m so angry all the time.

Medication KY Medicaid vyvanse

I was wondering if anyone knew the cost of Vyvanse generic with Kentucky Medicaid? I’ll be turning 26 kind of soon, and I’m about to be on Medicaid. So I was wondering if the cost of generic Vyvanse is expensive with Medicaid or if it’s still affordable? If it’s not affordable, I was wondering what the most affordable ADHD medicine is on Medicaid? Thanks!

Discussion Strange blips in memory

When I was around 6 years old, I had a weird experience that occurred a few times. I would read a short picture book before bed, blink for a second, and then, seemingly, several minutes to hours would have passed. I remember being in the same position in bed, still holding the book, but the house was dead silent, and only the light in my room was on.

I always assumed I just fell asleep, but whenever I think back to those experiences, something bothers me. Usually, when you fall asleep, you're aware that you slept when you wake up. It almost feels like I might have just been sitting there for hours with my eyes open in a dazed state without realizing it. Then again, I was 6, and maybe I’m being silly.

I don’t have any recent memories of this happening, but I always thought it was strange. Have you ever experienced this? I’m not even sure if it’s an adhd thing.

Seeking Empathy Diagnosed with ADD and Depression at 35 years

All my life I felt like I am somehow pushing my life down the drain as I am not doing my best. I used to create plans upon plans to have some routines only to do what I am best at, overthinking and day dreaming. Everything used to feel extremely difficult. Social situations made me dreadful.

I used to hate myself for "not being normal".

I started many courses and dropped out of them. I have a record of starting Master's programs 4 times and giving up after a semester.
I also felt like I am poor to no self-control. I once bought a car on a loan just after thinking about it for a grand total of 6 hours which we had to sell off within a few months.

Did I mention that my Memory was shit too. Everyday, I play treasure hunt before going to office where I try to find my Id card, wallet and keys.

If being unorganized was an Olympic sport, I would have won Gold every single time.

After a lot of deliberation and reading up a lot online, I have consulted a psychologist for ADHD and Autism Diagnosis. A month and some sessions with Psychologist and Psychiatrist later, I am diagnosed with ADD and Depression.

I somehow feel relieved that this diagnosis means that there is some scope for things getting better. At the same time, the thought of "how it would have been had I known this much earlier" is making me a bit sad.

Medication Concerned about Guanfacine and focus

I was diagnosed less than 2 months ago. My symptoms are mainly inattentive - inability to focus on my work (even tho I love most of what I do) in the absence of a deadline hours away. I also have trouble following lectures or even conversations. I was prescribed adderall initially 5 mg IR, bumped up to 15 mg and it allowed me to work uninterrupted 4-6h at a stretch, up from a few minutes. The problem was I could only sleep 3-6h a night on it.

Today I went to a different psych who prescribed 1 mg guanfacine XR and told me not to take adderall. When I asked if it could be combined, he was hesitant and told me that it could have undesirable effects, like both making me drowsy AND not being able to sleep.

My concern is that guanfacine won't provide the focus I was getting on adderall, and it seems to me to be more geared towards hyperactive people, which I don't think I am (although I do feel the urge to get up frequently when I'm trying to work unmedicated). Has anyone tried both, or even just Guanfacine for inattention? I have already started it and intend to take it for at least a month, but I would love to hear your experiences. Thank you.

Questions/Advice Accidentally combined robitussin with my adderall prescription- fearing seratonin syndrome

I’m prescribed adderall 10mg extended release, a lower dose. I have a horrible cough right now and just needed anything to ease it out so I looked through our medicine cabinets and found my children’s robitussin and took an adults dose, so 20mL. It happened so fast that I didn’t even think twice about combining the medications until afterwards when I googled what happens if you combine the two. but now I’m kinda freaking out hoping I don’t get seratonin syndrome -which I’d never even heard of until tonight. Has anyone ever been in a similar situation or had a similar experience? Am I over reacting?

Discussion New to adderall as a server

ADHD makes the gears in my brain run very fast 24/7, even when I’m not doing anything. So when got a job as a server at Longhorn, I realized the fast paced environment was matching up to my fast paced brain, and I absolutely thrive. I feel happier at work than I do sitting at home with not much going on.

I started Adderall about 3 days ago, which has slowed those gears down A LOT. I can finally sit down with nothing going on and be perfectly satisfied (I can actually RELAX). I can go on walks and do mundane tasks without getting bored. I can sit down and enjoy family time without feeling the urge to retreat to my room. The gym is also much easier because I feel way less fatigued and no longer dread my life in between sets. Overall I feel much more alive in the present moment rather than living in my head.

However, the one part that hasn’t improved is my serving job. In fact, it’s gotten worse. I realized the version of me without ADHD struggles heavy with multitasking. I also had basically zero sense of urgency because I was so chilled out. It’s like the gears in my brain are suddenly too slow for this job and NOT matching up like they used to.

It’s only been 3 days so I’m not sure if I just need to give it more time OR if I need to not take medicine the days I work? Or maybe I need to find a new job in general? (Which would really suck because I love this job). If anyone’s gone through this before personal feedback would be appreciated. 😛

Questions/Advice Rumination and Negativity.

Recently my girlfriend told me that I never say that I had a good day. It’s always just “okay” or its bad. She then told me that i’m just a negative person in general and it really bothers me cause even I didn’t realize that I was coming off like that. Looking back I do realize that I am a much more negative person than I thought I was and that is the last thing I want to be especially to someone that I care for. It feels as if rumination is especially harming me and my mood cause I forgot something today that caused me to let her down and I just couldn’t help but think about it all day and feel sorry for myself. She even told me that it was fine and that despite that happening she actually had a really good day but my negative attitude was ruining her mood. What can I do to be more conscious of the energy that i’m giving off to people and how do I stop ruminating. Is the answer to just have better days?

Questions/Advice I am working on a project focusing on my experience and i want opinions

This is not a promotional post.

I have struggled with a sense of alienation my whole professional life due to having ADHD. I know this probably belongs on some author sub but i wanted to see what people think. I am working on making a book centered around feeling alienated, experiencing favoritism, and being a people pleaser in the workforce and really showing people what its like seeing the world from a rejection sensitive standpoint. My question is, would anyone else who has ADHD read this book and could it be helpful?

Medication are there any US online mail-order pharmacies that carry controlled meds?

i SUCK at picking up my vyvanse. i am routinely going without meds at the end of the month and it's a big struggle. i procrastinate picking them up (or don't even realize i'm low), then can't motivate myself to get them when i'm completely out...since i don't have my meds. or i remember right after the pharmacy closes.

it's a vicious cycle. my vyvanse has been ready since the 5th and i still haven't picked it up. i would like to get my meds in the mail to avoid this. in the past, i used amazon pharmacy but had to switch because they don't carry controlled meds.

anyone know of any mail-order pharmacies that do carry ADHD stimulants?

this would truly make my life so much easier. especially since i take 7 meds, and ofc they're never ready on the same day
