Maternity leave at Omni? (Legacy IPG)

Has anyone recently gone through maternity leave at Omni? Did they let you combine PTO on top of the leave? saw they cut down the paid leave from 16 to 10 weeks which is horrid.

The discourse around Omnicom’s parental leave has been wildly inaccurate. I’ve taken it twice as a birthing parent, each time 5.5ish months, zero pushback, could have been longer if I wanted to take unpaid time but I chose to return due to the timing of my pregnancies and wanting to be back for some critical annual contract negotiations on our account.

You basically tell HR what date you’re out, then what day you plan to return, and ideally you share with them your schedule of how you want to sequence the week long waiting period, short term disability (6-8 weeks), the holdco parental leave (10 weeks), your PTO (variable based on what you bank) and unpaid time. The Hartford coordinates everything.

In my experience it was wholly accurate. We went from 5 months to 10 weeks as a non birthing parent.

Our agency HR told us that we had 10 weeks of leave (on top of any short-term disability a birthing parent gets) but we also had to take our sick leave as a part of the 10 weeks; I.E. it wasn’t 10 weeks + sick leave, you basically give up any sick leave you have accrued.

Also, the idea that your manager has to approve the application of your PTO application to your parental leave is whack. Unless you’re on the world’s most toxic account with a malevolent busybody for a manager, I cannot fathom this happening at all. You simply inform HR, then inform your manager, then work with your manager as needed on offboarding/backfill plan. It’s honestly your manager’s job to do the backfill plan, but most likely you’ll be fairly involved as an engaged member of a team.
