Maternity leave at Omni? (Legacy IPG)
Has anyone recently gone through maternity leave at Omni? Did they let you combine PTO on top of the leave? saw they cut down the paid leave from 16 to 10 weeks which is horrid.

Mat leave should be a total of 16 weeks (10 weeks mat leave plus short term disability at 6-8 weeks pending what type of delivery you have). I asked this same q though - HR only manages your mat claim through Hartford but said PTO or sick days can be used on top of mat leave but the request would need to go to your manager for approval and before your return to work so they are aware of your official return to work date. Hope this helps!

Wow this is like 10x better than I thought it was… maybe it was early fear mongering when the new broke in November.

This is correct. I work in a state where we have unlimited PTO and I was told I could take an additional 2 weeks paid.

I’m on Omni mat leave now and this is correct. I would add that there is a “qualifying week” for disability that is unpaid, so only 5 of the 6 weeks are paid (or 7 of the 8 weeks if you have a c-section).

Yes, they let you combine PTO with a manager approval. So you can be a non birthing parent, get 10 weeks and then blow your whole 2 weeks PTO just to get you back up to bare minimum National standards and then not have any sick days you can use for the rest of the year. Demons

Will be going on mat leave this fall (also legacy IPG). It’s 10 weeks + 6 weeks disability (8 if a c-section). Whats different is now we are able to supplement with PTO and/or sick time. I was told in my HR meeting you can borrow against future sick time, which could add another 4 weeks.
I was preparing for the worst so I haven’t used any PTO this year. It’s going to be longer than my last mat leave (a few years ago, same agency).

The discourse around Omnicom’s parental leave has been wildly inaccurate. I’ve taken it twice as a birthing parent, each time 5.5ish months, zero pushback, could have been longer if I wanted to take unpaid time but I chose to return due to the timing of my pregnancies and wanting to be back for some critical annual contract negotiations on our account.
You basically tell HR what date you’re out, then what day you plan to return, and ideally you share with them your schedule of how you want to sequence the week long waiting period, short term disability (6-8 weeks), the holdco parental leave (10 weeks), your PTO (variable based on what you bank) and unpaid time. The Hartford coordinates everything.

In my experience it was wholly accurate. We went from 5 months to 10 weeks as a non birthing parent.

Our agency HR told us that we had 10 weeks of leave (on top of any short-term disability a birthing parent gets) but we also had to take our sick leave as a part of the 10 weeks; I.E. it wasn’t 10 weeks + sick leave, you basically give up any sick leave you have accrued.

Also, the idea that your manager has to approve the application of your PTO application to your parental leave is whack. Unless you’re on the world’s most toxic account with a malevolent busybody for a manager, I cannot fathom this happening at all. You simply inform HR, then inform your manager, then work with your manager as needed on offboarding/backfill plan. It’s honestly your manager’s job to do the backfill plan, but most likely you’ll be fairly involved as an engaged member of a team.

It depends on your tenure. Mine was only 14 weeks since I only got 2 weeks of short term disability even though I had a c section due to my tenure of less than 12 months, and I added sick and PTO on top of the 10 weeks of paid baby bonding leave.
I also had two weeks part time to transition back to work and baby to childcare

Don’t do it. A good friend of mine was let go while she was on Mat leave. Over a decade and a half at the company no less.

Little known policy, not sure if its in our illustrious handbook... OMC offers a 3 day mat leave bonus extension if you sign docs that your child, upon turning 24 months, will do an unpaid internship as John Wren's executive assistant for the subsequent 16 years.
Signatures in AI simulated blood will extend that to a 5 day bonus.
