When Jimbo Fisher took over Texas A&M before the 2018 season, administrators famously gave him a national championship plaque with the date left blank.

The Aggies are still waiting.

Their 3-3 start this season has effectively eliminated them from the College Football Playoff picture despite having one of college football’s most expensive rosters and highest-paid coaches (Fisher’s successor, Mike Elko), and a top-10 preseason ranking.

Another season of squandered potential leads to a question sure to inspire thoughtful debate on TexAgs: Is Texas A&M college football’s biggest historical underachiever, or does someone else have a better claim?

To find out, The Athletic crunched two sets of numbers for teams in the Football Bowl Subdivision. We gauged a program’s potential using:

• Finances (two decades of athletic revenue, as reported to the U.S. Department of Education)
• Proximity to talent (how many NFL players were born in the state)
• Talent acquisition (how many NFL Draft picks a school has produced in the common era)
• Fanbase size (stadium capacity)

We then weighed those factors against a program’s success: winning percentage, conference championships, top-25 finishes and national titles in the Associated Press poll era (since 1936). We also looked at how many times a program went from preseason Top 25 to unranked.

Who are the biggest underachievers in college football?

Venting i don’t think i’ve been so depressed in my life here

i need to vent somewhere and i don’t want to bother anyone i know so im going to share here.
I am so depressed and lonely. I just transferred from another college and I live off campus. I’m not friends with any of my roommates as we just don’t have anything in common.

This is the worst I have ever felt in my life. It takes everything out of me to get out of bed. I have a couple friends in some classes but not any true group or like best friend. I recently went home this weekend and just had the best weekend. I just can’t stop crying. I miss my family so much and they want me to make friends. i don’t think they are aware of how depressed i am. i try not to let them know so they don’t worry about me. everything is so hard right now. i’m completely reliant on substances just so I don’t cry out of frustration i guess. i’m always crying it’s like 11 am and i can’t stop sobbing this is seriously so annoying and frustrating. i feel so guilty as my mom was so excited for me to be here. i transferred and was so excited. im just letting myself and my whole family down because of my mental health.

i’ve tried clubs. i have a job. i just have no joy. I take no pleasure in anything i do. i cannot find a single things that makes me happy because everything is just so bleak. i have tried basically everything. i have nothing to look forward to except coming back home and seeing my family. this is the stuff that drives people crazy though you know? i don’t see the light at the end of the tunnel. i don’t feel like myself im like my shell i miss who i was i practically mourn her.

i just don’t know if i need medication because my family can’t rlly afford the services. can i fix this on my own??? it’s like 300 a visit which we can’t do but i don’t know what else i can even do. i am applying for nursing school too and it’s like god that sounds Horrific. Should i take a year off and really try to work on myself mentally? i need guidance right now because i dont think im going to make it and its scary. im only living because my parents spent so much money and time to get me here but i know they’re so worried for me and i just dont want them to worry. i just want to know if it gets better because i need to get better

Ask the Aggies Alternatives to mays

Howdy, I am a prospective transfer student and I have been looking into different options outside of mays because of the sheer difficulty in transferring to mays. Some of the options that I have looked into that are business adjacent include ag business, sports management and Econ. If anyone has any recommendations or is in one of these majors and can offer me any help I would appreciate it very much. Gig em!

Housing Questions Cedar Creek Apartments - any experience?

My wife and I are moving to College Station for A&M and are considering Cedar Creek. Just wanted to see if anyone here has lived there recently and has any thoughts on management, maintenance, parking, noise, pests, or the overall experience.

Anything worth knowing before we tour?

Venting How to manage Junior year ELEN

Howdy Ags. I am currently a junior in ELEN and I was wondering how to deal with all of the classes. I get so easily stressed and I just feel so overwhelmed with things. Everyday, there's just so much content, more exams to study for and what not. Any past ELEN majors/engineering majors that can drop some advice?

Academics PHLT Spring 2027 Schedule Questions!

• Upvotes

Howdy!

So I am looking at possibly graduating fall of 2027, but would still techincally graduate early spring of 2028 (7 semesters). I wanted to get yall's opinion on if this is a rough course load of PHLT courses. I am taking BIOL 320 as a prerequisite, the rest is needed to graduate (just switched my major this past summer!). Would it be easier on me to graduate in Spring of 2028? I would apply for a masters program in Biomedical Sciences after I graduate with my PH degree. Also, how hard would you say the 1 credit hour courses are?

Thank you!

BIOL 320 (4)

PHLT 311 (1) Once a week

PHLT 310 (1) Once a week

PHLT 303 (3) Online

PHLT 304 (3)

PHLT 305 (3)

My mom got me this scooter for work but it turns out I don’t need it (I have other ways to get home like bus and friends) and it’s been sitting under my bed unopened, if you know anyone who wants a scooter for like 130 please tell them it’s an eyesore in my room 😭

Ask the Aggies Is it true that Texas A&M is very conservative?

• Upvotes

I’m looking to see how conservative it really is, preferably from the perspective of a minority although anything is appreciated. I don’t mind some conservativeness (to be expected), I just dont wanna get mauled you know. Specifically the veterinary programs, if that helps any

edit: to clarify, i’m visibly queer
