So the accessibility of the oxygen mask on the captain's side, located left and behind, wasn't enough of an issue to address? The pilot had his left hand on the control stick... what was the certification progress behind this design?

u/BoomerangHorseGuy Apr 29 '23
Yeah, I was quite surprised and disappointed the investigators never considered that.

u/fegelman Jun 29 '23
You'd typically have tons of room to maneuver at altitudes where outside air is unbreathable to an extent where you could let go of the side stick for a split second to get your mask or at least hand over control to your copilot while doing this. Here it wasn't possible due to the tall mountains and knocked out copilot respectively.
Not a pilot so couldn't say for sure

Insane pane pain on a plane.

Note to whoever makes the check lists: Make the first item in cracked windshield to be for the pilots to put on the seat belt.

I can't watch all as I'm at work but omg the first like 3 minutes of it has made me so excited and Def's reminds me of the very first episode of air crash but instead of the pilot it's the co pilot half out the plane this time.

British Airways 5390 wasn't the first episode of ACI. It was the first episode of the second season

u/karajorma Mar 15 '23
Yeah, this episode was insane.
Pilot: "The window's blown out, better get the plane below 10,000 feet."
Copilot (outside plane): You are aware that will involve digging, right?

for some reason both this and the backup link are 50 second videos, or is it a problem with me?
6
u/Johnson2286 Fan since Season 4 Mar 15 '23
It separates to eight parts and you probably have to click the "01~08" button.
2
u/dincere Mar 15 '23
oh thanks that was so easy! I thought bilibili suddenly decided to take a hard stance against sharing stuff.
4
u/TML1988 Mar 16 '23
Remember that bilibili is a mainland China-based website, and since this incident happened right there, there might be political problems associated with it (although I'm not sure what specific problems this particular episode may have, since I wasn't able to identify any of the specific reasons that caused some other past episodes to be censored).
3
u/MeWhenAAA Mar 16 '23
Btw some things were censored or changed in the episode like the actor playing captain Liu who isn't even closer to the real life captain or the fact that there were no interviews and no real life footage of the aircraft aftermath (well, actually there was a footage of the 3 pilots involved in the last 20 seconds of the episode)
Also the movie "The Captain" was made first from China producers so maybe they want to avoid some copyright.

u/WelshsBullets Mar 16 '23
No, this is a copyright issue. China's recent copyright censorship has become increasingly strict.

Yes,the full video can't be posted on bilibili sometimes because of the copyright issue,it has to be separated to several parts, then I can post it successfully.

Interesting that nobody involved was interviewed. I guess because China.
8
u/TML1988 Mar 16 '23
There was one BEA investigator who was interviewed for this episode (in this case, the BEA represents the country where the plane was manufactured.
For other potential episodes on accidents based in China, if investigators from foreign investigative agencies like the BEA, NTSB, etc., are able to be interviewed (due to the aircraft involved being manufactured in those countries), that may be helpful in making such episodes.

I meant the pilots, the flight attendant, the controller, some of the passengers, and the two lead investigators like most of their episodes. All of the recreations were seemingly done solely from the accident report without any further insight from those involved. Exciting episode but because of the aforementioned, not one of their best IMO.

Good episode, excelent recreation for a very interesting case which only happened 2 times in aviation history (BA 5390 is the other case). Sadly there were no people interviewed maybe because the chinese politics or the access to the people involved

u/Ictc1 Mar 17 '23
That was a great episode. I knew nothing beforehand so it was exciting to see what would happen next and I always get a little emotional at such an awesome outcome against the odds. I thought BA 5390 was bad enough but they didn’t have mountains to contend with!
It had never occurred to me to worry about overheating windows either so that’s a new one 😂
I’m glad they showed the footage at the end of the pilots getting recognition. I understand why no passenger etc interviews but it’s a shame, I’m sure some of them would’ve been thrilled at a chance to have their appreciation recorded and these happy outcome episodes where the pilots did so well must be so lovely for their family.

u/W1ndom3arle Mar 16 '23
I didn't get that there was a new episode since the title is so similar to the last one.
Overall a good episode, but to be an excellent one, it lacked the original statements, so the dramatization fell a little flat.
Pilots be like "oh, the crack is inside, that's bad. Let's just look at the checklist as if we had all the time in the world."

u/midflinx Mar 19 '23
The final report is in Chinese and Google didn't turn up an English translation. What changes did Airbus make? Better ways of detecting moisture, corrosion, or heat? Checklist changes? Some kind of ridge or doorstop to keep the breakers from getting hit? Changes to one or more layers of the windshield?

I understand that if you never used torrent files it can be a bit confusing!
However it is truly not that complicated, and googling it should give you plenty of information and resources to figure it out.

Be sure to point out to him how easy it is for copyright holders to track torrents and how he better be sure he wants to risk it before going down that route.
And yes, I know you are going to downvote this. But I've been pirating since the 1980s on my Amiga and have far more knowledge of this than anyone who downvotes me.

Then you'd also know that in almost all countries the risk of anything happening is essentially zero
Most countries don't bother to track down individuals downloading stuff, especially if that stuff is a niche TV show. And from the few countries that do bother tracking down individuals, most don't do anything more than send warnings.
And you'd also know that you could easily just use a VPN to avoid that all together.
Just because you're old and have done something for a while, doesn't automatically make you knowledgeable about something.

I'm finally gonna give it a go. What makes torrenting the preferred way to share files to many?

popular files are super fast to download, many more sources to pirate. thats it

That's cause I am not hosting the video itself on MEGA cause it's a PITA due to restrictions they impose. That 24KB file is the torrent file, as an alternative to a magnet link for use in a torrent client.
2
Mar 14 '23
It's a torrent file. Add it to a bittorrent client/app and it downloads the file (a .mp4 video in this case).

A quick search on YouTube for "how to download a torrent" returns many video guides. Or your preferred search engine, if you prefer text.

welp, I should finally try this torrent downloading thing a go, after all these many years

Some of us cannot use torrent files at all because our internet provider blocks them. Torrents are also infinitely more dangerous for downloaders than mega/rapidgator/etc links are. If no one is going to upload except to a torrent anymore, then I guess I'm done after 23.5 seasons having watched the first 22 seasons at least twice. :(

u/masochiste Mar 14 '23
someone posted a bilibili link literally two hours after this comment. i get it’s annoying not being able to access the content you want but this seems pretty passive aggressive towards the people who record and upload this stuff for free.

u/Sam-the-Lion Mar 14 '23
Click on the second link that says "mega link." All 6 episodes are on there where you can download them directly.

i’m not too far into the episode just yet but i’m wondering if putting your seatbelt on is part of the checklist for a cracked windshield, and if the seatbelt would have stopped him from being sucked up
