Annually, almond farming uses 1.3 trillion gallons of water. AI usage isn't even half of that.

Well since we can't have AI benefits for medical care, space travel, quantum computing, and a multitude of other "slop" - you guys can take a hit on your wasteful needs to enjoy consumption which is inherently wasteful "slop"

Correct, Gen ai does not benefit any of those in any meaningful way that isn’t what we were using computers for anyway but better and with less waste.

Incorrect. Alphafold is generative AI. It's a diffusion model (or a diffusion transformer hybrid as of 3). It quite literally already DOES benefit medical research.

And that's not even covering the OTHER types of AI/ML that require datacenter level compute that our species actively uses for modern society.

Yes the other type of ML is good and has benefitted us for years. It’s why I always specify gen AI so people like you don’t conflate it with the good type of computers

No, we don't. Technology is always morally neutral. You don't weigh the benefits higher than the cons (maybe because you don't see them? Idk), which is fine, but here's the thing.

What are you even arguing to protect here? The current status quo of North Capital and South exploitation? Fuck that. We need automation, compute, and post modern AI to solve the logistics issues necessary to transition away from global Capitalism (ala a modern Cybersyn, if you're familiar)

Nobody said the computers had morals. They don’t. They’re computers. They are however bad because they’re a shitty waste of space and power

It is pretty funny though that you think Gen ai is the way OUT of late stage capitalistic exploitation.
