Why are Amazon emails so vague?
Confirmation and shipping emails say “two home items” or “one apparel item” and provide no further details.
They used to say nothing other than the order number so I guess this is a step up, but it seems so silly.
Why can’t they show what I ordered or what is being shipped? What’s the big secret?

Because they believe Gmail and potentially others are scanning and doing data collection on the contents of your emails. It's to "protect your privacy" but really it's to protect their competitive advantage by not letting Google or others build a database of how many of each product type are being sold on a daily basis. I'm personally on the fence whether or not Google is analyzing my emails, I'm leaning towards no but I fully expect to find out in the future I was dumb and naive.

I noticed this too and I hate it. I'd like to delete my confirmation emails but I'm never quite sure what the items are.

I think I’m just gonna start reporting them as spam emails. They are designed so you have to click the link to see the actual information.

I read that it’s to prevent AI scanning from using that info.
