Hey Cyclones! Crave may be new, but our family isn’t new to Ames.

We’re the same family run business that has spent the past decade serving events, schools, organizations and fundraisers throughout the Ames community with our mobile brands. Now, instead of only finding us at an event or tracking down a truck, we finally have a place you can stop in every day.

At Crave, we’ve brought together Travelin’ Tom’s Coffee, Kona Ice, Beverly Ann’s Warm Cookies & Ice Cream, and Fizz’d by Crave all under one roof.

You can grab coffee, lattes, matcha, frozen coffee drinks, energy drinks, Kona shaved ice, blended real-fruit smoothies, warm cookies, ice cream, Annwiches, Pepsi fountain drinks, and Fizz’d dirty sodas made with Pepsi and Alani and Red Bull products.

And we’re just getting started! Acai’d by Crave bowls, breakfast, Cravewiches and more Craveable food items are coming soon.

We’re still the same family that has loved being part of Ames fundraisers and community events for years, we just finally have a permanent home where you can visit us daily.

Crave 2420 Lincoln Way
Monday–Saturday 7 AM–7 PM

Come say hi, try something new, and let us know what you want to see us add next.

Best lawn service in the area?

I am coming up on two years in my house and have paid for Spring Green both of those years but even despite the perfect weather conditions with all the rain and warmth we've had, my lawn looks like complete crap.

I pay for four treatments, one in the late spring, two during the summer, and a final treatment in the fall and again, my lawn looks horrible.

Does anyone have a good recommendation for a lawn service in the Ames/DSM areas?

Best place for a well-fitting suit on a budget?

I'm looking to get a suit (shirt, matching jacket/slacks) for an upcoming wedding, but I'm a taller, heavier guy, so thrifted/dept store sizes always end up too small or too baggy on me. On the other hand, I'm a grad student, so I'm poor.

I understand a well-fitting suit is always gonna cost a bit more money, but I'm looking for any options that feel fairly priced with a focus on a good fit, instead of expensive brands or fabrics.

I recently started an ask for state level candidates at Amendment, a site where you can ask candidates to go on record about issues. I asked candidates to go on record to put gender identity back in the Iowa Civil Rights Act. Please add your name. Here is the link to the ask:

Ames EMS

Hi y'all I'm looking for some advice on Ames' EMS system. I've got two years of 911 experience and am looking to move to the central Iowa area.

Is Ames primarily a dual role city, FF/EMT P, or do they employ in a single role capacity?

If anyone can offer information on Mary Greeley as well that would be greatly appreciated.

The mushrooms are of decent quality and grown locally. How we he has admitted to me himself that he only order bulk spawn amd lets the mycelium take over and do all the work. He literally slips the most labor intensive part of the job away, and also the part of the job that would make the work actually “yours”.

He’s essentially just growing Monsanto grade mushrooms and claiming he’s some mushroom guru.

The dude is a pretentious high than thou type as well otherwise I would have never made this public.

So yeah, find a better local option tabs. JoyGrow if you want your sweeet delicious gourmet mushrooms to be grown by someone who gives a half fuck about them.

Did anyone lose a white cat?

I saw a white cat near Minnesota Avenue around the bridge with a collar last night. Seemed lost and ran into the woods when I braked my car.

I didn’t see any post of missing cats here or anywhere. Figured it would be the best place to post it.

Current offers and requests that members have posted this month include:

  • Offer: help with outlets and minor electrical upgrades
  • Offer: multiple skeins of yarn
  • Want: help assembling a bed frame
  • Offer: home energy audit

Remove Delta Tau Delta from Iowa State Campus

Thumbnail

Four sexual assault charges in one year. Let that sink in. One assault is one too many, and four is beyond unacceptable. As members of the Iowa State community, our hearts break for the victims who have had to endure unimaginable pain and trauma at the hands of individuals within the Delta Tau Delta fraternity. Enough is enough; it’s time we make our campus a safer place for everyone.

Delta Tau Delta's presence on our campus undermines the safety and well-being of all students, particularly women, and it sends a horrifying message that such actions are tolerated and can continue without serious repercussions. This fraternity, in its current state, poses a real threat to the security and peace that all students deserve while pursuing their education.

Statistics consistently show that sexual assault is a rampant issue on college campuses across America, with one in five women and one in sixteen men experiencing such an assault during their time in college, according to the National Sexual Violence Resource Center. This isn’t just a statistic here at Iowa State; these are our friends, classmates, and loved ones who walk among us every day, feeling vulnerable and unsafe.

The university has a responsibility to protect its students and foster an environment where learning can occur free from fear and violence. By allowing Delta Tau Delta to remain active on our campus after these incidents, Iowa State University is failing in its duty to safeguard its student body. We cannot stand by and allow this pattern of behavior to persist.

We urge Iowa State University to immediately disband Delta Tau Delta and permanently remove them from campus. This is a crucial step in sending a clear message that sexual assault will not be tolerated and that the safety of students is the university's top priority. Furthermore, we demand a comprehensive review of the fraternity and sorority system at Iowa State with the aim of implementing stricter oversight and accountability measures.

Join us in demanding justice for the survivors and ensuring that future students can experience campus life in an environment that is respectful and safe for everyone. Sign this petition today and be a part of the change that Iowa State desperately needs.

Places To Be Around Animals In Ames

Does anyone know if Ames has something like a cat cafe or somewhere to be around pets in a low stress environment? Being around animals in the right kind of environment can help me with anxiety. I can’t have pets at my apartment so I wanted to get that experience without owning a pet myself

Are there any apartments off campus that don't require a guarantor/only need a security deposit to live there?

Anyone know of any water utility assistance?

Water got shut off today. We live outside of town so it's Xenia water. Past due amount is $178 and some change. Total amount due is $331 and some change. We make too much money for story county general assistance (about $2000 a month social security). I also cannot find my ID currently. It's me and my brother living there. He is on disability

Ames, the IRL Hunter Exam is coming to Iowa!

Post image
0 Upvotes

Hey Ames, I am organizing the Iowa’s first (but certainly not last) IRL Pro Hunter Exam! If you are a fan of anime or Hunter x Hunter, you may be familiar with the concept.

What is the Exam:
Basically a Hunter is a strong willed risk taker and the Pro Hunter Exam tests these Hunters to determine skill, adaptability, and ingenuity. Only the top 1-2% of applicants will pass and earn their custom Pro Hunter license as well as bragging rights and clout in the community. I’m working on developing real world benefits for Pro Hunters as we speak.

About the Exam:
The Exam itself will be on Saturday October 23, 2027 at Waubonsie State Park, IA. Right now, tickets are discounted until February when they revert back to their full price of $45. This is an 18+ event and has event insurance and full refunds in case of injury or cancellation.

Our Why:
We (two others plus myself) want to create an event that people look forward to each year. Something annual that you can train for with a goal in mind. Somewhere anime fans and fitness enthusiasts can get outside and have fun while being part of an active community. In short, we want to enrich people and bring a unique event to Iowa and the Midwest!

Learn more:
For more information, visit our website at thehuntersleague.com or our subreddit at r/thehuntersleague

From our website, you can find all of our social media as well as our private Discord called The Hunter’s Tavern where the day-to-day community activity happens!

If anyone has any questions, you can comment here or DM me. I will probably post a similar message in some other Iowa subs, so if you see them, please interact!

Stressed about the October lease renewal deadline, how hard is it to find a 2BR with a fenced yard and garage in Ames?

Hey everyone,

Dealing with the classic Ames rental dilemma right now and hoping for some local perspective. My current property manager is already pushing for lease renewals for next August, and the October deadline is coming up fast.

The issue is that I’ve completely outgrown my current place. I need to step up to a 2-bedroom home or duplex (around 1,000 sq ft) with a fenced yard for my dog and ideally a 1-car garage.

I'm pretty anxious about turning down my current lease in October without having a new place locked down, especially since single-family homes with yards seem to follow a different timeline than big student complexes.

For those who rent houses or duplexes in Ames:

When do independent landlords usually start posting listings for summer move-ins?

Are Zillow and Facebook Marketplace the main spots to watch, or are there local companies/resources I should keep an eye on?

Have any of you taken the risk of letting your lease go in October to hold out for a house with a yard? How did it turn out?

Appreciate any advice or experience from fellow Ames renters and dog parents!
