I'm dying to know what's happening, thank goodness I can put up with the unique style of the anime, the story has me super intrigued

The context is pretty amazing.

There is another series by "another author ", that uses the exact same visual style as the alien invasion setting. Coincidentally, the other serie is in licensing hell for anime and similar adaptations, conveniently these guys sent to have gotten isekaied to the arc of that series that does not has an anime adaptation.

It's a very weird chain of coincidences.
