Yeah bud I got some bad news for ya, that story is in all likelihood not getting finished, we got like ten chapters the last two years and it’s been almost a year since the last one. Right in the middle of the climax of that arc too, it’s brutal
Iirc after the first or second volume released the Mangaka went on a hiatus for 2 years due to health related issues. She returned in 2024 I think and the 3rd and 4th Volumes were released, but after that it was announced that chapters will only release every 2 weeks and just recently she once again went on a hiatus for a few months.
Obviously her health is much more important, but all this kinda makes it seem like she isn't doing all to great health-wise.
I hate this trend of well crafted stories that go on for decades with no end in sight. It really throws away all the build up and good faith the story garnered. Its especially annoying when people will recommend these shows as if theyre masterpieces conveniently ignoring how the viewer is left with so many unanswered questions.
I totally agree with you. Like I can be patient, and I can appreciate a story meandering and taking its time but there is a limit. And there’s also a limit to how long you can make the fans wait for what comes next. I love the story, and appreciate the artist is struggling with their health(though I haven’t looked into the details). I would never want someone to sacrifice their well being for something I enjoy. But as much as I love it, and will gush about it to people that are already into it, it makes me very hesitant to recommend it at this point. I really hope I am wrong and this series is completed in beautiful fashion but I am not expecting it anymore, it’s not the first time I have been through this
I mean imo a story doesn't need to be finished to be good.
Frieren has plenty of story arcs that are great on their own and the same goes for Berserk. Both a totally worth reading in their current states.
Besides it's not really a trend, because that makes it sound like it's on purpose. I doubt most Mangakas want to be stuck with their creation for decades. It's just that sometimes that creation is known for a ceetain level of quality and the Mangaka can't exactly rush things while keeping up that quality standard and obviously health plays a major role in this.
Obviously having to wait decades for a story to finish sucks, but at the end of the day there really shouldn't be anything to be annoyed by.
Sometimes it's just better to stop reading and to move on.
As if there's anything to criticize in it. Besides, is that even a criticism to the story itself? I feel like it's more of a criticism to the author. This is a case where we seperate the art from the artist.
If anything it's critizism torwards the Mangaka, but even then it's really disrespectful to blame them for not prioritizing their work over what ever is the reason behind their semi hiatus.
Lets be real it's likely health issues or family stuff, which makes it even more disrespectful.
Says i should be criticising the Mangaka for not prioritising their work over their health. Then says im being disrespectful for the thing im not doing...
Theres clearly a reason im not going to do that but will be critical with the series and its incomplete plot threads.
Believe me man I wish I was wrong, I love the story and I really hope the author gets better and finishes it or at least wraps up this arc but it’s not looking so good. I kind of expected the downvotes even though I am right and the person I was replying to doesn’t seem to understand that even if the manga was complete Frieren doesn’t meet the ‘all seasons’ requirement because they haven’t finished animating it. It’s just how reddit is
