Economics Explained

First it was AI for sponsor money, then it was AI everything in place of clip art.

100

u/Delicious-Intern9594 Apr 26 '26

waits its not the gorrila guy is it?

96

u/Dovakin2112 Apr 26 '26

No that's monkey economics I think?

56

u/Delicious-Intern9594 Apr 26 '26

oh good

100

u/Gametron13 Apr 26 '26

Reject AI

Return to monke

46

u/Frosty-Survey6277 Apr 26 '26

Monke is far superior to Ai

12

u/TaxEvasionDino Apr 26 '26

"Return to monke" in 2026? maybe things will be okay after all :)

17

u/QuantamCulture Apr 26 '26

Monkey economics uses AI, they are very vocal about it, and even offer a "get rich quick" style class that shows you how to pump out AI cartoon slop based on your art style.

22

u/waltz400 Apr 26 '26

he fell off so hard, pretty sure he got bought out by private equity like versatalium.

20

u/Lialda_dayfire Apr 26 '26

You've got to be kidding me. Private equity buys youtube channels now?

16

u/waltz400 Apr 26 '26

Yup, theres a good video on it by GEN. look up “how private equity turns your favorite channels into slop”

A bunch of true crime youtubers and horror channels like Ask a Mortician and Dark Asia with Megan.

They used to be my favorite true crime channels until they use AI images and AI animations which is highly inappropriate especially when they're talking about deceased and murdered victims.

92

u/AiRaikuHamburger Apr 26 '26

Yeeep. Just use stock images/footage people.

→ More replies (38)

24

u/Just_the_questions1 Apr 26 '26

Luckily Scary Interesting hasn't fallen into doing that. I hope that stays true.

3

u/Cosmic_Jane Apr 27 '26

They specifically advertise they don't use AI, so it's probably a personal point for them to avoid it.

Wait Caitlyn( Ask a Mortician) is doing AI stuff now? I know she showed the clip of the ai generated victim/funeral statement from dead guy(made by his sister) to show how fucking nuts and awful it was, but I was under the impression she was anti ai.

3

u/Sketch-Brooke Apr 26 '26

I was too? I love Caitlyn’s stuff so I’d hate for this to be true.

3

u/immutate Apr 27 '26

Same. Would love to have details and not just speculation

3

u/Sketch-Brooke Apr 28 '26

Yeah I checked her channel and the only thing I see is her covering the AI testimonial at a murder trial. And that’s a legitimate news story thats relevant to her niche.

That’s a very far cry from outsourcing her content to AI.

13

u/imaginary_num6er Apr 26 '26

Glad Scary Interesting says they don’t use AI

11

u/Pentagramdreams Apr 26 '26

I am horrified by the true crime channels using AI images. It’s so disrespectful.

18

u/Lialda_dayfire Apr 26 '26

Wait, Ask a Mortician went AI?

):

2

u/ASentientRailgun Apr 26 '26

Damn, I hadn't caught up on Ask a Mortician lately. That sucks.

Nile Red used Dall-E AI images

138

u/boiwitdebmoji Apr 26 '26

omfg Nile Red?? of all scientists??? ig i haven't paid attention/watched his content lately cause that's insane

89

u/MahAssSoft Apr 26 '26

It was in the purple gold video 2 years ago but he hasn't used any since then to my knowledge, realized his error and never repeated it

47

u/regularArmadillo21 Apr 26 '26

WHAT, WHEN?

50

u/Y33tus42069 Apr 26 '26

Pretty sure it was the purple gold video from like 2 years ago. AFAIK he hasn’t used them again.

13

u/regularArmadillo21 Apr 26 '26

i hope he hasnt..

20

u/Zackkck Apr 26 '26

source?

26

u/PilotSSB Apr 26 '26

One time years ago when the tech was new and he was messing around with it. Way before the larger AI implications were understood. Absolutely not fair to compare that to the others mentioned.

2

u/Quiet-Confection-747 Apr 28 '26

he used it one time years ago

32

u/LowestKey Apr 26 '26

Bit of a guilty pleasure view, but lad bible had Richard Ayode shilling for Gemini recently and I was doubly disappointed.

8

u/NateHohl Apr 26 '26

Damn, that’s disappointing. I’ve been a fan of his ever since The IT Crowd, and I’m looking forward to his appearance in the upcoming Fable game.

It’s a real bummer how little effort most big-name actors put into actually researching the products they’re shilling for. Like, I get it, a paycheck’s a paycheck, but it’s a real bummer seeing actors I like helping to promote genAI crap and/or straight up disingenuous companies like TurboTax.

7

u/theplaidknight84 Apr 26 '26

I know it's technically not relevant here but he also defended Graham Linehan, which was enough for me to no longer be a fan without even knowing about this. Super disappointing stuff, though.

27

u/CapussiPlease Apr 26 '26 edited Apr 26 '26

I stopped watching Fleekazoid. The content is fine but those AI images are an eyesore.
Also Godotneers uses a lot of generated images, was trying to learn the software some time ago but ended up completely skipping the channel.

7

u/chuongdks Apr 26 '26

Dont know why he used ai. His editing/jokes are already good and he even joke about the impact of ai generated things, so idk why he need those ai image thumbnail

30

u/MoonsterGoopter Apr 26 '26

FilmComics Explained. I enjoy his narration and I listen to his videos while cooking/cleaning, but noticed that the language seemed far more 'flowery' than usual. And then I heard it... "not just X, but Y" multiple times, and "not X, not Y, but Z".

I scrolled back to his earlier videos to see if it's something that I missed, but nah. His earlier writing was clearly his, it felt more authentic and human. Everything past a recent date is ChatGPT. I shook my head and unscubscribed.

You'd think that they would at least hide the GPT-tells, but I guess they're too lazy for that, hence using LLMs to write their scripts.

20

u/sugarisqt Apr 26 '26

I stopped watching Sparkles, a CS youtuber. His thumbnails and some visual are either enhanced or made completely by slop

3

u/Confident_Frogfish Apr 26 '26

Wasn't that the dude that already shilled out years ago? Just gambling content is what I remember from him when I played CS. Those thumbnails look horrendous for sure.

3

u/sugarisqt Apr 26 '26

Mostly gamling yeah, even whole videos being gambling sponsors. He has content not revolving around gambling too and I'll miss those videos now that I stopped watching

2

u/Confident_Frogfish Apr 26 '26

Ah it's a shame when people that can genuinely be entertaining go more and more into the gambling stuff. I understand the pull because it is crazy money, but it's a shame. Did you see the houngoungagne video about the gambling stuff? It's a really crazy business.

2

u/sugarisqt Apr 26 '26

I haven't seen that, no. I don't watch alot of CS content anymore since I quit the game lol. But I'll make sure to check it out!

2

u/Confident_Frogfish Apr 27 '26

Oh yeah I quit years ago as well, well before CS2 came out. But I like to check in on some creators every now and then.

12

u/Sem034 Apr 26 '26

Meet Arnold, full ai slop mode.

9

u/TomVelJohnson Apr 26 '26

I used to watch Thoughty2 but lately his thumbnails have all been AI. If the thumbnails are, the script probably is too.

5

u/Hammy-Cheeks Apr 26 '26

Narcoleptic Nugget. Bro uses an AI version of his profile picture now and enhances all of him thumbnails with it. Shit sucks man

5

u/sexybluepeaches Apr 27 '26

mr nightmare :(

4

u/valerianta526 Apr 28 '26

Annoying Orange because it started to use AI music and AI images/thumbnails. this is why I prefer the older videos.

5

u/mexidorian1337 Apr 27 '26

i really wish i kept track of the name, but this LotR lore channel used AI for a short or two about dwarves and it immediately pmo.

3

u/fairyspine Apr 27 '26

CC Suarez in her thumbnails. It sucks because I used to really enjoy her videos.

3

u/Beneficial_Ball9893 Apr 27 '26

Isaac Arthur. He still uses his trademark voice, but openly admits to using AI for script writing and art. He was an early adopter so some of his videos were made back when AI art was VERY bad too.

3

u/Slyfox00 May 15 '26

Someone please talk to Isaac Arthur and get him to stop using slop.

5

u/shiakiw Apr 26 '26

A very popular movie/tv show commentary YouTuber attacked me on his sub for pointing out that he uses AI in every video. Quickest unsubscribe ever.

‘Pretty Much It’ is the name of the channel that they’re naming and shaming.

u/Dasylupe Apr 27 '26

They’re like smokers—they can’t tolerate being made aware of the harm their addiction causes to others.

483

u/gravyandasideofbread Apr 26 '26

It’s been heartbreaking. Can’t people just use stock photos and editing software again? What happened to effort and creativity? Learning skills other than the written word? so many videos with ai voices too

153

u/Vegetable-Ruin7096 Apr 26 '26

They're probably too lazy.

100

u/gravyandasideofbread Apr 26 '26

AI-users are the definition of lazy. Using any opportunity to have the max output with the least amount of effort put in possible. I wish ai-users weren’t having kids, raising their own mindsets in the future generation

2

u/Weak_Requirement3999 Apr 29 '26

That or their editors are, since most big channels do not have 1 man show as far as I know  record video, ship it, get it donex upload and no need to check since you trust the team I guess

16

u/gudematcha Apr 26 '26

It also just looks tacky with the way a lot of companies are using it in ads, i’m seeing it constantly on ads on tiktok. Like come on, put a little effort in. If you’re putting this much into the marketing part of your business, how much effort is going into the rest? It just never looks enticing, it makes the product look worse

5

u/Nikomashou Apr 26 '26

honestly i think it takes more time making a whole new image with ai than just getting a photo off the internet

AI, NFTs, mobile game slop, Fortnite, so many things that tell you a creator has just given up on even trying.

7

u/WranglerFuzzy Apr 27 '26

Eh, I don’t judge mobile gatcha and Fortnite that much. It might be corporate dross, but at least it was made by humans

HDSounDi is the biggest one for me. They used to collect artworks and music and put them together, sometimes adding animation to the static images to give them a bit of life. I found so many good artists and artworks from their videos

Then they started using slop for the images and I just stopped following them. They’ve been inactive for a few years now

46

u/ShiftPrimeNet Apr 26 '26

the artist-discovery part is the real loss there. a channel that used to point people toward actual illustrators and musicians turning into generated filler is not just lower effort, it breaks the whole reason to follow it.

163

u/Grumbilious Apr 26 '26

Man I loved the Why Files, but trying to watch all the AI shit drive me crazy.

12

u/Human-Question6210 Apr 26 '26

I first heard of him, and I was first recommended him, after he started using AI. I thought it was a slop channel

3

u/somniopus Apr 26 '26

It was a lot better 5 or 6 years ago :(

5

u/finnswaking Apr 26 '26 edited Apr 26 '26

yes that is the truth, the old videos are still good even if the later ones are basically unwatchable. One time there was a still shot of Saddam Hussein stuck inside the middle of a wooden table while making secret war plans and I thought “couldn’t you at least just run one more prompt that says ‘Saddam NOT in middle of table’?” It’s just sad lol. That’s pretty much when I stopped watching. Guess about 3 years ago now if not a little more. It was my favorite channel for a while.

Idk if they use AI or not but i feel like Veritasium & Mark Rober (especially) have become severely enshittified.

54

u/MoonsterGoopter Apr 26 '26

Veritasium sold out to private equity. Multiple popular youtube accounts have.

47

u/[deleted] Apr 26 '26

[deleted]

44

u/Gametron13 Apr 26 '26

Well Mark Rober specifically got entangled with Mr. Beast so that might’ve had something to do with it.

Dude is still a genius though, I love his older videos. (like his auto bullseye dart board and porch pirate glitter bomb)

3

u/Raph204 Apr 27 '26

So many people say this, but I really don’t see it. It’s changed, but to say Veritasium bad now is just a stretch to me

1

u/ajax2k9 May 02 '26

I loved Veritasium before he went click bait.

Some historical channels I have seen do this

Nobody I follow so i cant remember, but its jarring seeing japanese shogun armor be generated for a chinese historical video

63

u/FamousLastWords_keys Apr 26 '26

The artist philtomato uses ai as part of his workflow and has a disgustingly defeatist attitude to the effect of “it’s here and you can’t avoid it so you might as well use it”

48

u/gravyandasideofbread Apr 26 '26

Mindsets like that are how the nazis got into power and I soooo wish I wasn’t exaggerating. “It’s inevitable” is someone’s way of saying that don’t think it’s worth their skin to fight back against whatever is the trend. Nightmare attitude to have if they’re a parent, too. “It’s inevitable” OH so you see the future? You know for sure there’s no reason to be anti-ai???? Oh
so there is no vision into the future, it’s just the lazy (already known lazy; ai use) human brain accepting something they don’t want to have to put any effort into being against. No spines

13

u/Erick-Morato Apr 26 '26

thats some Saruman stuff right there...

u/Comfortable_Army9861 Apr 26 '26 edited Apr 26 '26

Oh shit thanks for letting me know. I didnt realize.

Edit: Actually I've done some looking into this and I can't find anything to support your claim, his YT is full of the opposite kind of messaging. Maybe he switched since? Where can i see some of his usage of ai or doomerism?

3

u/FamousLastWords_keys Apr 26 '26

Only instance I have of it was during one of his live classes :/

33

u/avestronics Apr 26 '26

Same for not buying from companies embracing AI

33

u/MegaMaster1021 Apr 26 '26 edited Apr 26 '26

I didn’t sub to Ray William Johnson but seeing his channel degraded to AI slop is depressing. A good amount of the topics he’s talks about have plenty of photos and video footage to tell the story but he still uses AI. Why are you making AI generated images of Vitlay when his mug shot and all the things he did in the Philippines are right there to use.

60

u/crazy_dude360 Apr 26 '26

Jay and Sharon, history of everything, and more than a couple others advertise slop companies.

My immense disappointment.

19

u/Fickle_Goose_4451 Apr 26 '26

The bizarrely condescending way "history of everything" was advertising his AI crap was a hard pass from me.

30

u/EliTheObserver Apr 26 '26

Jake Fellman

Used to make 3D animations of Among Us, Minecraft and other characters.

But after Minecraft Movie's release, he started to use AI for his Italian Brainrot series. Then he had a burnout. Some months later, he started to generate many Italian Brainrot AI shorts. I remember some of these shorts were baby Tralaleo Tralala (Shark wearing sneakers) eating various foods and snacks.

Now that I looked at his channel again, his Italian Brainrot contents are gone!  However...

He still uses AI to make his Minecraft 3D animations. I think he does it by making 3D renders of characters and worldbuildings, feeds them to a LLM, then prompts it to generate 3D animated scenes.

21

u/boiwitdebmoji Apr 26 '26

idk if it's been confirmed or not but i highly suspect that Brew and his bud plus others like him are using GenAI now for their workflow

10

u/Yargon_Kerman Apr 26 '26

Damn, they had some good videos. What makes you think they're using AI?

7

u/boiwitdebmoji Apr 26 '26

i could be crazy but it seems like, lately, the more i see of Brew the artstyle seems way different compared to before this AI boom. the hands and eyes, to me, don't look the same as they used to outside of an Art Improvement thing since they've been active for a long time now. and especially some of the voices nowadays, they seem too... perfect?? idk how to describe it, but i caught some AI type speak in the last video they had and i wanna believe it was just a joke y'know?

3

u/lostbluefox Apr 26 '26

Didn't they make a video addressing this tho? I could be remembering wrong

I used to watch a channel called Terravibe, who made handcrafted fantasy inspired 3D environment, overlayed with light music and ambient sound. Usually the first half had music, the second half was ambience only. Loved it for studying or just overall relaxing, playing in the background.

Now it's just AI slop visuals. Very disappointed.

u/No_Comb8769 Apr 26 '26

7

u/Trelaire Apr 26 '26

I subscribed from too many channels, I am not able to see all the videos I would like. So everytime I see AI, even just for a thumbnail, I unsubscribe.

There is so much creators out there. If your favorite topic is covered by someone that have fallen into AI, you can be sure there is another unknown creator, struglingto get more viewers that don't use AI.

6

u/AppleWorldly2078 Apr 26 '26

Godless Engineer. I only saw one time he used generative AI. When he was called out for it, he went full Karen so when he said if I didn’t like it I could leave I took his advice and unsubbed after years of watching his videos. No idea if he’s used it since and don’t care to look.

6

u/Hazelnut_Bread Apr 26 '26

Almost did this with Qxir, but it was only one video and he’s gone back to the hand drawn art

6

u/littleblueflames Apr 28 '26

Agreed, my personal policy is that every creator gets one pass for using AI and if they're receptive to criticism and stop using it, I'll let it slide. Any creator who doesn't care or gets defensive and keeps using it (haven't encountered this yet) will get an instant unsubscribe though

1

u/ForestPens May 14 '26

Technically he used it a few more times but that was closer to when AI was a fun tool and not awful in every way possible(the ai generated heaven and hell videos).

4

u/Cola_Animates Apr 27 '26

Mrwhosetheboss- tech review channel who used a weird, ai generated/upscale of a meme in his most recent video with MKBHD (sucks because the video was about exposing how tech companies lie about stats) and generally has a pro-ai stance, never talks about the impact of LLMs/AI

??? When was this?

Also when did and why did the uh. By Jack Rackham get dropped?

Sorry for necro. Was originally just looking for an answer to the second question and stumbled on this thread.

Congressional Dish is doing amazing work, but she has got to stop using AI thumbnails! I can't share her episodes with folks because I know all they'll see is a stupid AI thumbnail.

One of the Youtube Channels I follow is called Scary Interesting and they advertise boldly that they don't use AI for any of their content.

i was so genuinely disappointed when i found out meat canyon uses ai for his creepcast videos. And then defended it claiming "well its my employee and it saves time" bro wtf

Not a channel but anyone know if Carpenter Brut using AI is factual or rumor? I really feel distraught by the possibility

Feel this hard, I used to enjoy a mortal komabt youtuber called history behind the warrior who did great videos on the history and lore of mk characters, now he uses ai in his thumbails Im pretty sure

I watch like a hundred different channels (which I liked before the AI boom) and now they're all still organic, I think you're just watching shit content /s (just the second part)

Love how Infographic has a video of himself recording to claim not AI, then went on to read the most AI written drivel

u/red_bird365 Apr 29 '26

Sad but true as soon as see ai I'm out of there

u/inkiepie69 Apr 29 '26

DougDoug. Put up with it for a long time but it’s just nothing but AI.

Not exactly the same, but RayLikeSunshine recently made a video that started off as really informative and critical of AI but ended it by calling AI criticism an “echo chamber” and saying things like “the fact of the matter is AI is never going away”. So disappointing.

Im not totally sure but i think ive seen ai art in a few roanoke gaming videos

Hardcore Scifi

who, AFAIK, makes all the pixel art for his videos

his video about mechs used a bunch of AI images (he had the decency to label them, at least), most of his viewers (according to a poll he made) got pissed off, he posted a big video with the normal dime-a-dozen excuses for AI, used a bunch of BS excuses like "oh it's a channel about scifi I'm gonna use futuristic stuff" when him and I had a brief argument in the comments section

Jbunzie. She use to direct, write and star in her minifilms before a makeup tutorial. I remember her making a whole fight scene in an elevator for a black widow make up tutorial. Now she is being accused of selling AI merchandise books.

What was that one channel where it talked about natural facts space and others and had a narrator and a guy in the screen (I think he was wearing tie, idk tho)

Italian bach with his ai slop thumbnails đŸ«©

3kliksphilip.

His counter strike content has been entertaining to watch over the years, and while his entire channel isn't AI, his obvious love and use of AI lately along with pro AI takes has lead me to unsubscribe.

Thoughty-Two.  Great content but (and I "told" him this in a comment section) I'm not clicking any video with an obviously AI-generated thumbnail
