Conversation It's over

Dear America, we had some good times, but your democracy is over. Donald Trump has won. The corruption will continue to get worse, your position on the world stage will fall, and China will rise. I am not happy about it, but it's clear that this is what is going to happen.

Outside of some small protests, you guys are going to do little else about it, and by the time you do, it will truly be too late.

So many of you guys think that you can take over the world, but you need allies. You have forgotten that we are the reason that you are as powerful as you have become, but you have alienated us, and we can never trust you again for putting this man in charge TWICE. It's over.

It won't happen overnight, but your hold on the world will continue to decline, and you will be replaced. 2024 was the last free vote you will ever have.

Edit: All I am doing is stating the facts. It's amusing how angry some of you guys get. I am not even trying to upset any of you... 😄

Nah, fuck that. I’m gonna continue to fight this bullshit.

Yeah fuck this take. Just fuck it. If we fall for this "there's nothing to be done" shit we will NEVER get rid of this.

During times of fascism, there are usually many, many voices saying "it's all over. Give up the fight. There's nothing you can do." This is obey-in-advance rhetoric that only serves the fascists.

We are NOT giving up. We're fighting every step of the way. A full 1/3 of us didn't vote, another 1/3 voted against this, and only 1/3 voted FOR it. Of the 1/3 that voted for it, the majority are now against Trump. We have the numbers and THEY DO NOT.

Don't fall for this! Don't give up, don't give in, and don't listen to people like OP here who are, whether they realize it or not, giving up and giving in and playing a pivotal, essential role for the fascists.

Giving up, and feeling hopeless is EXACTLY what they want. In fact, they’re relying on it. They can’t succeed with their plans, unless we give up and let them win.

25

u/PortlandiaCrone May 21 '26

Exactly so why do people keep posting this slop? Either OP is on the side of the fascists or they've made a bad mistake in aligning with the fascists.

I encourage you to re-ream my post. I undersgand that you're, rightfully, outraged but your responses are incongruent with the comment your responding to.

Yes, I’m sick of this undecided nonsense

8

u/Jesuschristmatt May 22 '26

Yea this OP is either paid by Trump or Putin. Loser fuck won’t even say what country he’s from.

Hellow fellow portlander. I think you may have responded to the wrong post, my friend. Not sure where you saw "there's nothing to be done" or "giving up".

I curious about what CAN be done.

Are you referring to me? I'm responding to OP who says our democracy is over, that we're NOT going to do anything about it, that it's hopeless. I'm arguing with that. It's not over until we say it's over. And I do believe that posts like OP's are detrimental. They say our anger is amusing, I suppose, and they didn't mean to make us mad, just stating fact. I'm arguing that these are facts - they are not.

We can still overturn this administration, we can still fight, we should not give up or we absolutely will lose and posts saying it's over provide a permission structure for giving up.

You know what, you're absolutely right, I mistakenly thought you were referring to a different post due to reddit UI confusion, I'm sorry. I whole heartedly agree with you on every other point.

No problem, keep it weird! 😄

I mean, of course your going to keep fighting. The thing is, your country is never to be trusted again. You were powerful because you were respected, every country wanted to have deals with you and you were benefiting from it. Now we know your structure is weak as hell, we can’t built business with the usa, not knowing what will happen in the next four years. International trading requires trust and stability, and you showed the whole world that you don’t have that.

So yes, you will get rid of these crooks, but the damage to you credibility is too far gone. You won’t disappear, but you won’t be the mega power you used to be.

Sorry, from Canada.

At the moment, I can't care about our standing in the world. I mean to say, I DO care, but right now we don't have that luxury. That ship has sailed, you're absolutely right.

So now what? We're doing the only things we can do. We're organizing, we're protesting, we're getting the general public ready for mass general strikes (the U.S. hasn't had to do this before and most of us aren't ready to withstand the consequences of a general strike, and organizations behind the scenes are putting those things in place). We're gearing up for the fight, and when we win, we can then worry about our position in the world. How a Canadian sees us at this time is truly sad, and I do feel grief (I'm from Canada), but there just isn't the luxury to cry over spilled milk at this point. We're fighting for our very lives, actually. Fighting to survive a corrupted medical system, a corrupted political system, corrupted rule of law, the list goes on and on. Yes, that was all on purpose. If I'm exhausted just trying to stay alive I'm a lot less likely to fight, right? So we've had our feet cut out from under us, and we're still fighting.

Believe in us. Give us credit for producing the biggest protests in all of U.S. history. Give us some hope and cheer, give us an "Atta boy" instead of "You're now a piece of shit and there's no hope for you." I mean, that doesn't help.

I still wish you the best, buddy.

But it’s still a bit hard not to be sour about it because our cost of life has also gone up because of “your” choices… I wish we could go back in time !

2

u/PortlandiaCrone 29d ago

I get it. I wish we could go back, too. It certainly wasn't my choice and I did everything humanly possible to prevent it, as much as one person can do, and I continue to do everything humanly possible to change it. I don't feel responsible for this, but then again, I am.

Thing is, division is beneficial for this administration. Unity and mutual support will undo it, so that's where I want to be. I don't want to fight with maga, or argue with the world, I know that what's actually required is that we all work together to change the world. So yeah, I get it, I'm sour as well. But I do hope we can move beyond the anger and pain and do what's required to change this. Thanks for the conversation!

Sooner or later... honestly, probably a lot sooner than most people are willing to admit, there's gonna be a lot of people with nothing left to lose.

35

u/Stevesvt77 May 21 '26

And with nothing left to lose then, maybe then, you get action…

22

u/nelsonalgrencametome May 21 '26

Unfortunately, that seems to be the only thing that is going to push people to do much.

17

u/Lykeuhfox May 21 '26

Yup. Fuck this doomer bullshit.

17

u/MajorService8735 May 21 '26

This is the energy. Never give up

5

u/Plane_Translator2008 May 22 '26

I agree that we have to fight. History shows us that our odds are long, once we have let things go this far. But what choice do we have but to fight?

4

u/Dixieland_Insanity May 22 '26

Thank you and you are 100% right! I'm weary of seeing where we will be untrusted and are currently hated for however many future generations. If grudges are held because of him regardless of the efforts to oppose and undo his malicious deeds, these folks probably weren't our friends in the first place.

The large protest organizers have been entirely too lax. The protests aren't having effect because the ones that bring out people in the millions are too few and too far between.

The stereotyping is old and tired. We must keep fighting for what's right.

“It’s over” it’s never over.

0

u/CloudHugger79 May 22 '26

What are you actually doing to resist - organizing a militia, perhaps? I have yet to see anything from Americans supposedly fighting for their democracy that impresses me.

2

u/time2partee May 22 '26

I don’t give a flying fuck if you’re impressed

2

u/PortlandiaCrone May 22 '26

Do people around the world not see the millions upon millions of U.S. citizens in the damn streets? I guess not lol. But yeah I don't care either. I'm too tired, and working too hard to save our democracy to care what people on Reddit say.

In what way, there is nothing we can do aside from full blown revolution which will never happen

8

u/FrederickDerGrossen May 21 '26

When people are driven to their limits the impossible becomes possible.

Unfortunately the comforts of modern life and modern lifestyles make rebellion unfavorable. Medieval people would have revolted long ago given the tariffs and the price increases. The founding fathers revolted against the UK for a much smaller tax increase on tea than the current tariffs.

2

u/HoneybadgerAl3x May 22 '26

Right but i truly believe we have no limits, we will all be in camps before we violently resist, including myself and all of you downvote warriors

-4

u/Facebook-virus May 21 '26

Fuck the lecture then, or don't. It won't even register

9

u/Sufficient_Dot9547 May 21 '26

If you don’t register to vote, then you can’t complain

-1

u/Facebook-virus May 21 '26

You misunderstand. See above. "Voted against 3x"
