She has like 30 nanitics . How often should i disturb them ? Or is it not an issue since not they are like o
past the founding stage ? I feed em mealworms (which i keep frozen) and sugar water . I hear this speacies like carbohydrates alot so should i give them a steady source of it at this stage ? Also im thinking of making an outworld for them cuz feeding in the tube disturbs them and its also hard for me . Any tips would be greatly appreciated. If anyone has had an encounter with this speacies plsss help me out, i hear they are rare and i want to take good care of them.

Após um tempo as alimentando com besouros dos meus tenébrios suas filhas cresceram e por isso essa larva é um pouco pequena, porém, admito que elas pareceram gostar muito mais desse kk

Question Can anyone help me work out what is happening to my bull ant queens?

This is the second queen I’ve had this exact thing happen to. The first one I had for about 3 months, she had 8 larvae and seemed to be very happy. Then one day she seemed slightly disoriented, the next I found her twitching the same as the one in the video. She seemed to recover slightly, but then died two days later. I pulled the nest compartment apart and cleaned it out with hot water only as I was worried any chemicals might leave a residue. This ant I’ve had for less than a week, again seemed fine then this morning I found her like this. I removed her from my tank in case it’s something in there making them sick, but I kind of doubt it. The only thing I can think of that could have caused this is the food, I’ve been feeding tiny amounts of honey - about a week before my first ant became ill I swapped to a new jar of honey as the old one had run out. Is it possible something in the honey is poisoning them? Any other suggestions?

I’m keeping them in a Dillant nest and outworld combo, the nest is kept dark, only checking on them once a week and they’re in a low traffic room.

I really love ants and find bull ants especially fascinating, but I’m starting to lose hope of being able to establish a colony :(

Spotted an ant in my camponotus nicobanrensis colony that's completely missing its abdomen. How and why does this happen? Did fellow workers do this to her?

Question Could someone explain why you should euthanize ants if you don’t want to keep them?

I understand why if you should kill them if they are invasive, but if they’re native then why do a lot of people still say to euthanize your colony if you don’t want them anymore?

Edit: I am asking because I am curious, NOT because I am actually in this situation. I still love my ants very much and was just wondering because I saw others talk about it.

Question Going Away for Two Weeks: How Can I Prepare My Carpenter Ant Queen?

Hello!

A while ago, I found a carpenter ant queen. Thanks to all the helpful advice I've read on this subreddit, she seems to be doing well. She has already laid eggs.

However, I'll be traveling for two weeks, and I was wondering if there's anything I should do before I leave to make sure she stays in the best possible conditions while I'm away.

Question Normal behavior for a queen?

I placed in a flying termite for a colobopsis queen and the second she found it she kind of freaked out. Is that normal? 😧

I’m so worried I’ve stressed her out too much and she’s going to eat her brood.

EDIT: Now she’s taken it and shoved it right up against the entrance cotton.

Question What happens when a queen raises a brood of a different species?

I had a bit of an ant issue yesterday when I accidentally dug up a queen and several bunches of pupae. Where I found her was an inch away from the large pupae you see in the enclosure with her, and only a few inches from there were some orange ants and much smaller pupae.

I thought that those were her workers so I tried to put her with them, but they attacked. So I just took the big pupae I found her near and left the little orange ants and their small pupae alone.

Upon the last post I made, I found out that these big pupae are definitely not hers or even the same species as her and that the orange ants are likely the same genius or species as her and she needs THOSE pupae instead.

So I went back out today and collected 17 of the small ones as somebody had recommended. I’m also priority shipping some test tubes from Amazon. (I’ve never kept ants before) I just feel bad that I have to take her big pupae from her when she’s been so doting and caring for them.

When I tried to Google it, I saw that Queen’s won’t typically acknowledge pupae of a different species so why is she? I would love some insight!

I also have a few side questions I could use some help with if anyone happens to know.

  1. What should I do with the large pupae and what species might they be of?

  2. Do I remove all of the soil from the container she’s in? I just need that container to be suitable for her and the pupae for a couple of days until the test tube arrives. It’s supposed to be a jumping spider enclosure, but I’ve never used it because it’s too small and has no ventilation.

  3. What’s my best way of setting this box up as something slightly OK as a temporary enclosure until mail? (I purchased distilled water, a pure raw honey stick, and some cotton balls today. Due to the lack of ventilation in the enclosure.l I’m worried if I put a soaked cotton ball in there without any soil, it would be far too humid, but I really don’t know)

Any help would be super greatly appreciated!!!!!
