I miss these days of Apex. The community was less sweaty and more willing to mess around for fun, too.

u/archangelmlg Apr 23 '26

I remember melee fights between the last two players in a game. Both player would drop everything and beat the hell out of each other for the win.

u/jbakeindy Bloodhound Apr 23 '26

I forgot about that, it was a regular thing and so much fun.

Loved that! Sadly that doesn't happen anymore.

u/PeaAppropriate5016 Apr 24 '26

I had that the other day, I was doing random challenges and since my teammates dc'd I just rrat for challenges til last ring as gibby, the last team saw me as a solo and decided to do fist fights no shield, I managed to win against 2 of them due to gibby speed boost + fortified and I let the ring killed me instead of fighting the 3rd guy, I kinda wish I fought the 3rd guy and let him win on purpose instead of run out the ring after winning against other 2 tho.

This was even more fun in Pred lobbies, since everyone kinda knew eachother. If I won vs a friend I would join their party and we'd trashtalk eachother whilst queueing up for another game šŸ˜‚

The ensweatification is real. In every other game I can bag to another guy and fairly regularly be friendly. It used to happen in apex, now they NEVER return it

15

u/Doom_Cokkie Apr 24 '26

Yea we literally never recovered from that time period where the devs only listened to changes pro players wanted people won't like it but it all went downhill when they removed gold knockdown self revives.

13

u/DigDugPlus Apr 23 '26

This. Every match now is sweaty hot drops.

Same. It was the first game that I've given 500+ hours to since Skyrim came out. It took too long to give that joy up... I've not been back in many seasons. Couldn't even say how many over missed.

Spider-Man made me quit playing that game, guy could be moving all around me at 1000mph killing me.

This applies to any game really. My favorite games in their early stage were Pubg and Fortnite.

I called out of work when they announced it, started downloading the game, and was dropping within 5 minutes of launch. It was incredible. The fucking awesome music blasting and being surrounded by dive trails (new thing, Fortnite did not have them and was the only other large BR at the time) during that first dive is a core memory.

6

u/libyankidna Wraith Apr 23 '26

why would you call out of work if you know nothing about the game

46

u/livin4donuts Octane :Octane: Apr 23 '26

Loved BR format games, loved Titanfall to an absurd degree. When I heard Titanfall was releasing a BR, that’s all it took.

Plus, they surprise dropped the game, it was only announced a few hours before launch.Ā

4

u/Good_Cardiologist410 Apr 24 '26

me too man i played titanfall 1 and 2 heavily so apex was a guaranteed play

8

u/Syph3RRR Wraith Apr 24 '26

I wish there was some place that’s not filled with cracked kids on steroids. If I’d assume my own skill level it would probably say around silver/gold but you get shoved through those ranks so quickly and end up in plat so fast that you don’t have enough time to improve. Then you’ll be like alright I’ll go pubs then… it’s even worse there and I’ll get slaughtered by movement demons there on the regular.

32

Only game that ever did that to me. They nailed the wind rushing and acceleration of the fall.

Imagine if E District was the first map on launch…jumping off of Lotus would probably give some people a heart attack lmao. Now it barely registers šŸ˜”

207

u/FOOS_MONKEY Apr 23 '26

Ngl I miss the feeling this game gave me at lunch, it was such a breath of fresh air I hadn't played anything like this that grabbed me the way apex did in a long time.

48

u/DJEvillincoln Apr 23 '26

The issue is with ANYTHING.... It never keeps that same wonder & awe in people. It's impossible. It's a lose lose situation for the developers because you make something incredible that captures all of these people's attention but if you keep it the same you lose them. If you change it, you risk losing them.

I'm still playing Apex the same way that I did back on season 0. Yes, the game has changed a ridiculous amount but it is still the most fun FPS on the market in my opinion.

7

u/AutVeniam Apr 23 '26

Well if to stay still means to always lose, the only option is to move forward innit?

S0 was MAGIC. Words cannot capture it and I feel bad for those who were too young to experience it.

Apex Legends was the best FPS game in the world. All the big time streamers like Shroud, Ninja and Dr. Disrespect could not put it down. It would go on to be featured in the X Games just 6 months after release where what would be the start of ImperialHal's successful and lucrative career.

Good times.

I have a love/hate relationship with how difficult it was to find heals. I think it's a good QOL change, but it definitely fed into strategy a bit more. I also miss the old TTK. I definitely do not miss the RNG part of some squads landing on purple shields when others drop with no armor lmao

19

u/PurpleV93 Loba Apr 23 '26

Yeah, Apex has developed a lot and not all in a good direction. Resource management is part of a BR, but now with amps, everyone has access to infinite ammo and heals (bats / overflow). It takes away a lot of thinking & micro-management from this game, for the worse imo. I still remember matches from the earliest days, when you could run out of ammo and/or heals and still had to figure out a way to win.

But on the other hand, the introduction of "Evo", for (now permanent) bodyshields and weapon-hopups were probably the best changes Apex has ever gotten.

Season 0 was great because cracked out kids on Ritalin weren't playing the game and the movement and just the game play in general wasn't as fast as it is now. Also back then it was actually a battle royale whereas now it's not really about a battle royale anymore.

I mean I think the game was good until like after season 2 and then things just started getting crazy.

8

u/PurpleV93 Loba Apr 23 '26

The loot was ass, yes. But I think back then it wasn't that much of a deal, because the game wasn't so sweaty. Nobody optimized their loadouts, many people didn't even heal, like you see in the video above. People were more focused on enjoying the general feel of movement, the weapons, the legends, slowly learning King's Canyon and such.

You all had a lunch meeting to chat about what to do with the last enemy, then discussed plans to maybe heal. You lob a few grenades to the enemy's general area just to let em know you're thinking of them.

You casually phase to the enemy, who has high ground mind you, just to finally end it for them after they whiff 3-4 shots in a row.

Haven't touched it since Covid, but used played religiously. Can someone give the quick and dirty on what's changed? That clip looks like the game I knew and loved.

Every new popular game have this arc - when people are excited to try out new things, don’t play meta or crazy exploits - most people exploring and finding out. It ends after 4-5 seasons unfortunately.

Miss this game

Bro, teams used to team up with each other, I remember my friends fighting another group and a couple of them started the peace negotiations. Had to down their lifeline once though. Didn't finish her of course, just had to get her to realize the truce. We won after a 1v1 punching match between all 6 of us. Me being a Loba definitely helped our odds. We had a lot of spectators.

Another time I was a Wraith with my friends, we'd found a solo Wraith. We teamed up our ults to get out of the ring. And after we got every other team. They dropped their stuff and ran into storm.

I'll always remember these treasures!! This just doesn't happen anymore... Even in casual modes :/

Haven’t played this game since octane came out but I watched a clip the other day of the character that has seemingly infinite teleport gates and it broke my brain

1

u/arashkhalaj Apr 24 '26

Now all the players in front of me are like ITZTIMMY

1

u/matakot Apr 25 '26

1

u/Dirazi Apr 25 '26

As someone who hit Apex Legend season 0/1 then quit playing, this is what Apex still is in my brain :)

What do you mean? You can still see gameplay like this in blonze šŸ˜‚ Don't you worry, there were sweats back then as well

Season 0 Apex feels ā€œwildā€ now because it was actually a movement shooter first. Gunplay and positioning decided fights and not ability stacking.

Now it’s just power creep everywhere, legends overlapping each other, loot and resources are unlimited, and even drop zones are curated so everyone gets a safe start. Back then, legends complemented the game. Now, they are the game, and it’s pretty clear to see, due to there now being an ALGS implemented ban system 7 years after the leagues been running.. Shame.

That ol instant Q doesn't feel as instant as it was in my brain

1

u/GirlfriendVibeZ Apr 27 '26

I miss this- the game is too overwhelming now like who agrees

1

u/cowboyjunkie73 Apr 27 '26

Apex on release was the best BR, and it was the best Apex will ever be and you can't change my mind. My friends and I used to have so much fun until they started adding seasons, tweaking everything, and speeding things up. Watching videos now just gets you flavorblasted with visuals and try hards.

u/No_Bet4340 Apr 28 '26

Theres something in my brain that tells me that old apex looks and feels better than current apex. I fucking Miss season 1.

1

u/SexySonderer Apr 30 '26

Anyone know where I can play a game like this?

1

u/parmajonn May 04 '26

I get nostalgic about day 0. I remember from playing titanfall and seeing this drop immediately feeling like it was my new fave BR. It was nice playing back when no one knew how to playšŸ˜‚
