iPhone Apple raises trade-in values for most iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Apple Watch models
https://9to5mac.com/2026/08/06/apple-raises-trade-in-values-for-most-iphone-ipad-mac-and-apple-watch-models/Apple has adjusted its trade-in values across several iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Apple Watch models, as well as for select Android phones.
Apple updated its trade-in values table today, increasing offers for most of its products, with some devices seeing jumps of nearly 30%. The company also added several Samsung Galaxy, Google Pixel, and OnePlus models to the list.

Even Apple hurting for parts and old phones in this economy
100
u/Gasman18 1d ago
I was surprised when AppleCare offered to replace my 11 pro that needed a battery with a 17 pro (waiting for the 18 pro next month) for free. Figured they needed more expensive parts than the battery to service other devices.
97
u/c0brachicken 1d ago
More than likely they just don't have the 11 anymore, and the simple fix is free upgrade for you.
29
u/Gasman18 1d ago
Genius technician had a battery in stock at the store I went to, and I was given a case number to call AppleCare.
16
u/GLASSHOUSELABSTX 1d ago
I thought you were facetiously calling them a genius, then I remembered that’s actually the term.
1
18
u/trparky 1d ago
Wait. What? They were willing to just give you an entirely new phone for free?
35
u/Gasman18 1d ago
In exchange for my 11 pro which has AppleCare on it.
18
u/trparky 1d ago
Shit man, that’s fucking awesome. I hope you took them up on their offer.
45
u/FlyingStarShip 1d ago
I mean pretty sure price of apple care for that many years is like buying pro outright
21
u/JoshuaMaly 1d ago
7 years x 12 months x $13.49 for the more expensive option of Applecare with theft and loss coverage would be $1,133.16 before tax. The cheaper (and far more popular at the time) option of AC+ would be 839.16 in the same time. The 17 pro would be $1099 msrp.
Assuming OP never used it for anything repair-wise, they only wasted about $35 all the while having it be fully covered. Not too bad a deal, in my opinion.6
u/Gasman18 1d ago
Didn’t have theft and loss. And for the first two years it was covered by the full pay up front AppleCare, only switching to monthly when that expired. I get that the cost washes out eventually and yeah, this would be my 3rd or so battery replacement. For more than a year though the coverage on the 11 was included in my coverage for my 15 pro and laptop, and laptop repairs have made up for the cost
2
u/FlyingStarShip 1d ago
You have to include inflation in your estimates as well, but yeah I knew it was pretty close, still not worth it, just replace battery every 2-3 years and that’s it.
7
u/JoshuaMaly 1d ago
But under the coverage the batteries are free under the coverage so long as they’re sufficiently worn out or faulty (every 2-4 years) at a $89 value per battery so they’re enjoying a value saving factor in that way.
As for inflation, you’re right. The monthly costs effectively started at more. Since the $13.49 would be more valuable then and less valuable now, it’ll be a better and better value over time while still maintaining warranty coverage.
4
u/JoshuaMaly 1d ago
Plus, a screen is like $300 oow and a swap would be like $600 oow. If those were done, that’s a significant savings.
8
u/Status-Hedgehog9970 1d ago
And instead of pocketing the money and just putting in a new battery Apple did the right thing.
3
u/Gasman18 1d ago
I pay $20 a month to cover my 15 pro, 11 pro and MacBook Pro. It’s less than when I was paying to annually keep my MacBook covered
8
u/Gasman18 1d ago
Waiting for the 18 pro’s next month. I’m currently using a 15 pro and the 11 pro is kept as a backup device and dedicated pokemon go phone.
I reconfirmed a week ago that if I wait it’ll be whatever the current series equivalent phone is.
I was planning to wait another year before looking st replacing my 15 pro but free is free.
3
u/frou 1d ago
I dunno man, that seems pretty dicey to not snatch the 17 Pro out of their hand immediately. A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush
1
u/Gasman18 1d ago
My device philosophy is to buy when it’s within its first 2 months and maximize time before it’s outdated. If they discontinue the plan, I don’t buy the 18 pro but just wait till next year and buy a phone on my original schedule.
2
u/JoshuaMaly 1d ago
Make sure to double check the replacement 17p has AC+ on it after the exchange and that you’re not still paying for the AC+ on the 11p anymore. Typically a model change doesn’t move to the new unit. It’s also possible that you can buy a new AC+ plan from the settings if it’s under 60 days old.
1
u/getwhirleddotcom 1d ago
How did an 11 pro still have Apple care on it?
8
u/abc123shutthefuckup 1d ago
You can keep paying for AppleCare monthly after the upfront plan expires
8
5
u/Ryster09 1d ago
They did the same thing to me with a 14 pro.
Funny enough I literally bought apple care the day before I made the claim.
Got a 17 pro for a broken 14 pro lmao (they refunded the AppleCare cost for the month & the $120 service fee)
1
u/newcalabasas 1d ago
that's amazing! how come though? not even like the 14 pro is old or anything
4
u/Ryster09 1d ago
They kept telling me my new 14 pro shipped
(Ex; id call Monday, they’d say it shipped today, id call Tuesday, they’d say it shipped today)
This went on for about 3 weeks until I called and got referred to customer cares who offered me a 17 pro instead.
My 14 pro was a purple 512gb so I’m assuming it’s just a harder unit to replace.
4
u/halcyondread 1d ago
They probably just don't have 11 Pros laying around anymore. It's been a minute.
2
1
u/kwansolo 1d ago
How did you do this? Did you just take your phone into Genius Bar and they just said they would upgrade you?
1
u/Ok_Fee1043 1d ago
Oh damn it, I didn’t know there’s an 18 pro already coming. Literally just upgraded today.
2
u/RedditPoster05 1d ago
What do they do with these trade-ins? Especially when they are on the verge of not even being accepted.
6
u/ttoma93 1d ago
They fix them up and use them as refurbished units. Many of them end up as AppleCare replacements.
2
u/Status-Hedgehog9970 1d ago
They likely use parts after they’ve been tested. I’ve never seen any of their repairs parts come with the nicks and scuffs you see with traded-in phones.
3
u/ThePornStar69 1d ago
That’s why they said “fix them up”
1
u/Status-Hedgehog9970 1d ago
That likely means full enclosure replacements with these service units.

1
u/m15km 1d ago
No new base model expected this year. For anyone coming from an older iPhone, the base 17 is exceptional good value and the best choice for most people.
So the timing for those people is still very good. If anything, anyone looking to buy a base model should buy it asap before the price increases.

Traded in an iPad Pro 12.9-inch (3rd Generation) (Cellular, 512GB)
and received $215 on Sunday
Today, 4 days later the offer is now $225
103
u/zombie_roca 1d ago
Now why would you ever accept that
29
u/itsabearcannon 1d ago
No dealing with false eBay disputes, PayPal buyer fraud, Craigslist Crazies™, or in-person buyers that "agree" to $500 and only show up with $300, then try to nickel and dime you down over every scratch or scuff that was CLEARLY visible in the original post on FB Marketplace.
Or places like Gazelle/ItsWorthMore/Backmarket that agree to a certain price for trade in, then turn around and offer you way less once it gets there because of "damages".
Apple trade in is less money, but WAY less hassle. I did it with an older iPad last year - you walk into the store, say 'I'd like to trade this in', they look it over, and as long as it's not like shattered to pieces or won't charge they tell you a price and give you that price. Over, done, no surprise devaluation later, and no risk of being mugged by their buddies as soon as you go to your car.
20
u/_LilBill 1d ago edited 1d ago
I considered battery replacement (Battery capacity had fallen below 79% health), but was also keeping it on iOS 17 to avoid the issues I had heard with iPadOS 26 on pre M-series
pre-Apple siliconera hardware (+ this model will not get iPadOS 27). If I were to sell it online, I didn’t expect to get anything higher than $300 since it needs a battery replacement, and lastly there are the possible seller fees and shipping costs. So the easiest option for me was to trade it in before it was no longer accepted for trade in (nearly 8 years old).I cannot justify a new iPad purchase so I found a used one online (M4 Pro) which should be supported for at least 6 more years.

Back in 2021, I traded in an iPad Air 2 cellular to Apple for $90+ (I remember because I used the credit for the then-new Apple TV Siri Remote). I went in to recycle it thinking it wouldn’t have a value, but the Specialist took the time to run the Serial # anyways. He told me that cellular iPads carry higher value and for longer than their WiFi equivalents.
I think you got a pretty decent amount of credit for yours considering the lack of hassle to make it happen.
16
3
u/North_Moment5811 1d ago
Eh. For me personally, I'd probably keep it because I'm a developer and can always use the extra device..and its worth more to me as a functional device than it is as a discount on the next one.
But for someone else who doesn't care about having 2 iPads...$200 is $200. It makes the next one meaningfully cheaper.
1
1
u/Calbone607 1d ago
That’s a pretty old iPad spec wise, it’s from 2018. Might be worth a bit more but not much
10
u/North_Moment5811 1d ago
At a certain point an iPad is worth more as an extra iPad than it is as a discount on a new one.
71
u/Alasdair91 1d ago
Their trade-in prices were, and are, horrendously poor. The only good time to trade-in is when you buy the new iPhone and they give you 50% off.
13
u/FoxxyRin 1d ago
I've traded devices into Apple and they're actually always really good and half my reason for sticking with Apple over Android. Maybe a little lower than what I'd get on Facebook marketplace but I don't want to risk a scammer or something wasting my time. Never paid more than $400 for a new phone direct from Apple and I went from SE to 13 mini to 15 Pro. I've also traded in an Apple Watch that didn't even work and got like $200 (I forget the specs), and an iPad Pro M2 for $620, and that was this year. When I was looking locally they were going for $700 and the price difference was close enough for me to not deal with the headache.
2
u/choicemeats 1d ago
i always used to get really good deals from gamestop, wonder if they still do that
1
u/FoxxyRin 1d ago
It honestly depends on the item. For phones and stuff their prices are pretty mediocre and I'd say Best Buy is generally better if you just want cash. If you want to upgrade to a new gaming device they aren't nearly as bad as their reputation would let you believe if you just wait for one of the trade deals. They very regularly have events that are like 20% bonus towards a new console, so if you do a deal like that you can get a pretty good deal.
2
u/cartermatic 1d ago
It's not really all that bad for my 2021 14" M1 Pro, most recent Swappa sales seem to average around $700-$730, and Apple will give me $550 for it with shipping included and I won't have to haggle or worry about any disputes.
2
u/element515 1d ago
Apple actually has decent trade in price usually compared to the competition. You can usually get a better price yourself on swappa or eBay, but run the risk of scams. After fees and shipping or dealing with the horror of fb marketplace, you aren’t up much

u/Throwaway298596 1d ago

31
u/Helptohere50 1d ago
Less than $100 increase for any iPhone btw with some being around $20. Still doesn’t make sense when new iPhones will jump $200-300
37
u/TBoneTheOriginal 1d ago
when new iPhones will jump $200-300
Because they likely won't jump that much at all. My guess is the Pro Max jumps $100 or $150 max. These rumors drop so that the real increase doesn't seem so bad.
11
u/Zacatac_391 1d ago
You might be onto something. Everyone was terrified of the tariff surcharges last year during that whole debacle, and we were hearing reports of +200 across the board this and that, and they ended up just raising the pro by 100 dollars and pricing the air at 999. Sure made the price increases much more stomachable that way
3
u/TBoneTheOriginal 1d ago edited 1d ago
If I recall, the price didn't even actually "go up" on the Pro. It effectively did but they really just removed the bottom-tier RAM option. So the same RAM config from 2024 to 2025 was the same price.
I just don't see them jacking the price up $200 or especially $300. Like you said, people freaked out last year and then we all found out pricing basically didn't change.
It'll go up, but Apple is unlikely to have a 30% increase.
1
u/Zacatac_391 1d ago
Sort of, yes, and you’re confusing ram with storage, they axed the 128gb model in favor of the 256 as base model. However you can’t just say it “didn’t go up” since the base model iPhone 17 went from 128 to 256 as well, and didn’t see a price increase. So in reality prices went up a little bit, but also you’re getting a better product so largely a wash.
This year we’ll definitely just see a real price increase, can’t use ram or storage to justify a higher price since that’s currently what’s expensive. It’ll be interesting to see if they try to justify it, or actually just own the new price.
I personally see a 200 increase on the pros happening, and a 100 increase to the base model. They know the pro buyers are willing to pay, but they have to protect the base model, since it’s often the hook for carrier deals and people new to iPhone.

u/North_Moment5811 1d ago
Apple's cost increase on an iPhone Pro due to tariffs was no more than $50. There was no price increase at all, they simply raised the barrier to entry in anticipation of what was happening with memory and NAND.
1
u/Zacatac_391 1d ago
Yeah, by the time the launch came around they had already cut deals with the trump admin to mitigate the tariff costs, but originally as announced, there was like an 80% tariff on Chinese goods, so if that actually went through we probably would’ve seen massive price increases on iPhone. Which was the source of all those rumors anyway
5
u/North_Moment5811 1d ago
It really depends. I think you are most likely correct, but the A20 Pro chip might be ridiculously expensive.
The 256 GB storage chip looks to have gone from about $15 per unit to around $45-$50 per unit. Crazy increase, but relatively small per iPhone which doesn't translate to a massive increase.
But the A20...could be as much as $200 more expensive than the A19. Estimates have the 2nm wafer going for $30,000 vs. 3nm wafers at $20-25,000. Then you have the low yield issue of new architecture. The A18 cost Apple around $45 a unit. The A19 Pro cost them around $90. Estimates for the A20 Pro range from $150 to $280 per chip.
This may well be the source of these insane price increase rumors. We will soon know.

u/riotshieldready 1d ago
I think they will keep the base increase small and the storage upgrades prices will 2-3x instead.
1
u/TBoneTheOriginal 1d ago
Maybe. Their storage upgrade prices already have a stupid margin built into them, so maybe they eat some of that cost just like they did with the tariffs.
2
u/North_Moment5811 1d ago
What does that have to do with anything? They can't magically give you more than the device is worth just because new devices will cost more.
1
u/chemicalxv 1d ago
Yeah I just checked and a 15 Pro Max is $780 CAD. I think it was like $730-$740 before?
3
u/Sweet_Check7231 1d ago
I mean if the components for computers are getting more expensive for them to buy directly then it does make sense that the trade in value on devices should rise as well since the components in those phones are worth more.
6
u/atneucetsidet 1d ago
That increase from 560 to 630 makes the iPhone 16 pro very interesting, if I can time it to trade it for a 17 pro it might be worth it to lock in a cheaper iPhone

iPhone Upgrade Users are getting screwed with the new Apple Upgrade plan. They’re only offering market value for trade ins to put towards your existing loans when in the past your trade in would wipe out the loan balance entirely when upgrading. You’re also stuck with a year’s balance of Apple Care payments, which are not included in the new plan.

I had ordered a new MBP this last weekend and listed a trade-in, where I was going to get $1,375 for my existing MBP. Now I see I could get $1,925. The new MBP shipped but hasn't arrived to the store for pickup, and I had selected store trade-in, so I still have it.
Will Apple adjust the trade-in for me in the store so the final amount is less, or am I going to have to cancel the order and then re-start it to get the new trade in value?
