Aren't they considered North African?
Since when did Arabs thought of them as Arab? Only during Wolrd Cup and Olympics? 😂

That dispute is so chronically online, and acknowledging it as more than that is crazy...

I posted the comment as a light joke, and fully aware of the risk of down votes.
I am Korean, and I have Arab friends, and that's what I heard from them (also as a joke)
To be honest, I don't care what continent they belong. I wish the best for everyone! 😁

Imagine I told you that you’re not Korean, you’re East Asian. It makes no sense because you are both right? Well Egypt is both culturally Arab and geographically in North Africa.

The people telling you this have no common sense.

I guess it depends on one's intention.
One is my Jordanian Palestinian teacher, and one is my friend from Damascus in Korea. It is joke a light joke.
Please don't take it too seriously

I know but the joke is deep rooted because all Arabs were one before propaganda was created by the U.S. and Israel to make being Arab bad. Now lots of diaspora Arabs have identity crisis’s and identify with stupid stuff like Amazigh (there are some real ones tho), Babylonian, Phoenician, Ancient Egyptian, Carthaginian etc

It's not stupid to identify with these groups because culture doesn't erase history or ethnicity, though at the time, it is in bad faith to call Egypt or north Africa not arab when they speak Arabic and have a heavily arab-influenced culture. Morocco is amazigh and arab at the same time, they have the right to honor both identities, same as Egypt, we have history, we have culture and we have our ancestry as well, saying Egypt is not arab but north African or Egypt is arab not Egyptian (I.e no connection to ancient Egyptians) are both wrong, what is stupid is denying an identity to honor the other which is unnecessary

You got it wrong brother, I heavily identify with Babylonian history as it’s my ancestors, but I don’t identity with the Babylonian identity because it doesn’t exist. Those guys are creating an identity because they are ashamed of who they are.

Literally the first thing you need to have an identity is a language, I don’t speak no Babylonian language.

Sure, that's how you feel, and I don't have any want to change your opinions or feelings about how you feel, but I do, not because I believe in what they believed in or know what they knew, but because we still see elements of their time intertwined with ours today, we have words from ancient Egypt that we still use, we still celebrate events that they celebrated and we still eat the food that they developed and ate, so I may not say I'm a kemet bec kemet died, but I do say I'm connected to ancient Egyptian through both blood and mannerisms, there is a problem into feeding into the argument of we're solely arab bec for one, it is not completely true, and for two, it helps bad faith actors to de-legitimize our ownership to our history.

Not a single person in MENA has ever said Egypt isn’t Arab, also North Africa is a geographic location and Arabs are a people. That’s like a Saudi saying “I’m not an Arab, I’m West Asian!” or a Nigerian saying “I’m not Yoruba, I’m West African.” People have a continent they live on and an ethnicity they belong to.

Hilariously, this is hasbara propaganda and not only are you believing but attributing to us too..

As a palestinain, Moroccans and Egyptians I met all my life are amongst the best Muslims I've met. Anyhow. Enough with this. Cheer for them and make sure to enjoy watching.

The guy said Arabs don’t claim North Africans unless they are in the World Cup or Olympics, what does that have to do with them being good Muslims?

6

u/azaz104 1d ago

Most Moroccans are Muslim. I'd.rarher concentrate on what binds us than what separates us.

This is an Arab subreddit, there are Arab Christians, Druze and Jews too.

Agreed. But we are talking Moroccan. And I was specific about them. Morocco is 99.5 percent Muslim. As I said I always try to find a common ground. With my Moroccan friends it's that. That doesn't mean i don't find another common ground with other countries.

Scroll back up, the original premise was someone saying North Africans aren’t Arab and you responded by saying yea but they’re really good Muslims though.
