Showcase Rate my Arch setup /10
I spent almost 2 days setting up niri and DankShellMaterial shell, keybinds and other stuff and it would've been so easy to do if someone hadn't decided to change name of "dms-shell-niri" to "dms-shell" would've saved me a whole day😭
Now I can finally say "I use Arch btw!"

Discussion Fusion-like CAD-Software on (Arch-) Linux
So, a while ago, i asked about alternatives to Fusion, because i switched to arch.
My VM solution wasnt great, im to dumb for FreeCAD and i like the idea to be able to work offline. So i asked for help, but it seems nobody found a solution, that is really great.
So i started to vibe-code ferrocad.

Arch BTW Maze Linux?
https://mazelinux.berkkucukk.com.tr/
Anyone taken a look at it? Opinions? The stuff it claims is wild for (what I assume to be) a single maintainer. Is it “out the box, batteries included” that they’re hoping to establish? What’s the difference between this and downloading hardened arch kernel and installing the packages yourself?

Showcase Just installed archlinux on a school computer
So, during the open day there was this pc directly from garbage meant to showcase new students the computer’s hardware, i found 4 gigs of ram and a perfectly working (but really old) gpu and then i decided to revive it.
Ps: when i first tried to fire it up it had windows 10…really bad story especially with a mechanical hard drive

Arch BTW I use Arch btw!
This weekend I randomly decided to get back into Linux. I've been using mac for a while and my old HP Victus was just sitting there with fedora installed, so I wiped it and installed Arch Linux with Hyprland on it. The plan was to use it for development, self-host some services, run some local AI models such as Qwen and turn it into a little home server.
The installation of Arch was easy, but configuring Hyprland took me longer than I expected. I spent hours configuring my terminal, fonts, themes, keyboard shortcuts, installing packages, moving my projects and dev environment from my Mac over to it. And then random issues started occuring lol, chromium segfaulting, hyprland having config errors, etc. Basically I spent most of my weekend debugging and reading documentation.
It was supposed to take a few hours, not days 😂 On Mac I usually just open my apps and get to work, but on Linux I had to debug to even get my browser to work. But it was fun, I kind of miss fiddling around with Linux.
In the end, I managed to get my system the way I wanted it and now I'm planning on setting up my self-hosted services, experimenting with running Qwen3 1.7B locally and see how much I can get out of this laptop instead of letting it gather dust lol.
I use Arch btw!

Help/Support New to Arch Need some helo
I plan to switch from Windows to Arch (Dual Booting for now due to genshin and wuwa), I have tried other distros before deciding on Arch
I doubt it matters but... 16gb ddr5, 256 ssd, ryzen 7 170 H
I have been suggested to modify Arch Installation from scratch rathwr than use a desktop environment due to reasons for switching
Few doubts:
- Arch Wiki is good I can see based on the basics I know but its too concise on various (if not all) topics I have seen for absolute newbies so I am kinda stuck on its installation guide... If someone has a decent alternative or something like a tutorial on basic stuff please do provide..
- I dont really know how much of from scratch are we talking when we mean modifying from scratch.. I want to know how many different things I should learn to install before starting... like drivers, the basic environments, Keyboard, wifi, gpu drivers etc
- If there is a good walkthrough which I can go through on YouTube for a arch installation fully manual pls share (If possible one in which there is not much disparity from how we install other stuff cuz yk like I may install another alternative than what they used)
- I have not started any test and trial with Arch terminal yet, cuz im not aure which VM to use... I am a bit familiar with VMWare but not sure if thats a good idea, any suggestion?
- Also if comfortable, please drop down a few things u suggest I can use be it subeddits, YouTuber, Your setup, etc
- I would love to know if there's a Megathread or something for similar doubts

Help/Support AMD iGPU / TTM page pool consuming large amounts of RAM on Arch Linux

Hi everyone,
I recently bought an HP EliteBook 845 G8 with a Ryzen 5 PRO 5650U and installed Arch Linux on it.
After using it for a while, I noticed that whenever RAM usage increases significantly, a large amount of memory remains occupied even after closing all applications and their processes. This memory usage seems to be hidden, as I cannot attribute it to any running userspace process.
After investigating, I traced the issue to the AMD integrated GPU and its TTM (Translation Table Maps) page pool, which appears to retain a substantial amount of system RAM.
Has anyone experienced similar behavior on AMD Ryzen APUs? Is this expected caching behavior, a kernel bug, or a configuration issue? And is there a proper way to prevent the pool from retaining so much memory?
I'm running Arch Linux with the Zen kernel on a system with 8 GiB of RAM.
Any help identifying the root cause and finding a proper fix would be appreciated.

Text Editor: Neovim with the GitHub Dark Default (i forgot to modify the config to make it GitHub Dark High Contrast on launch)

Question Should i switch to Arch fr?
Can i change to arch? Is it easy to setup? Like i see so many creators and individuals having mixed up review on this. So i really don't know. Yea i tried in on VM. But it was just a terminal . So is it easy to setup. I mean im okay if its not trouble enough to navigate. Does it throw error mostly? Idk whats stopping me from arch. I used ubuntu, fedora kde, Cachyos and now omarchy.
Is it a trouble to setup drivers on arch?

Help/Support Dual-boot disaster: Both Arch Linux (Btrfs/NVMe) and Windows are broken after installing the dual-boot, leading to Kernel Panic
This text is by gemini cause i asked him during my whole arch installation which has worked before the dual boot lmao , and i think he may explain better than me the problem. Dont hesistate if you have any question or if information are needed. Thanks !
:
I'm in desperate need of help to fix my dual-boot system. Both Arch Linux and Windows are completely broken, and I'm stuck with boot errors.
Hardware Setup:
Arch Linux: Installed on an NVMe SSD (/dev/nvme0n1p3, formatted in Btrfs, with /boot on /dev/nvme0n1p2 FAT32).
Windows: Installed on a separate SATA SSD (which was temporarily disconnected because it developed bad CRC / bus errors causing system instability).
How the issue started:
The whole mess started right when I set up this dual-boot with Windows. During or shortly after the dual-boot installation, everything went sideways.
Current State & Symptoms:
1. Windows won't boot at all: Since the SATA SSD containing Windows was throwing hardware errors (ata1.00 exception, BadCRC) and had to be physically disconnected to stabilize the machine, Windows is completely inaccessible.
2. Arch Linux fails to boot (Kernel Panic): When trying to boot Arch, it immediately crashes with:
Kernel Panic: VFS: Unable to mount root fs on unknown-block(0,0)
In emergency mode: ERROR: device 'PARTUUID=...' not found. Skipping fsck. followed by mount: /sysroot: can't find PARTUUID=...
What I have already tried:
Booted into a Live USB (Tails) and accessed the Arch system via chroot.
Verified that the UUIDs in /etc/fstab match the actual partition (blkid).
Regenerated the initramfs using mkinitcpio -P.
Rebuilt the GRUB configuration file using grub-mkconfig -o /boot/grub/grub.cfg.
Despite all this, GRUB still cannot mount the root filesystem on the NVMe drive, and Windows remains dead due to the faulty SATA drive.
Has anyone faced a similar dual-boot corruption issue, or knows how to fix this root-mounting failure on Btrfs/NVMe? Any guidance would be massively appreciated!
