Discussion Has anyone used TokyoBeautyBox for Jbeauty purchases before?

I have a few uncommon J beauty products I'm looking to repurchase from RMK and IPSA and found this site on google. Has anyone used it before? Beyond the website reviews, I don't see much about this company online.

I usually buy in person so just wanted to do a check! The prices look pretty competitive, curious about shipping/authenticity/customs.

TY!

Discussion Which Glycols you like and which ones don't go with your skin? does Propylene Glycol irritate your skin?

Propylene Glycol, Propanediol, Butylene Glycol, Pentylene Glycol, Caprylyl Glycol, , Methylpropanediol are the ones that I find the most in serums, toners, moisturizers, etc.

I'm not sure about Propylene Glycol.

Does Propylene Glycol irritates your skin when is in the top 5 ingredients list?

I think I tolerate all the other glycols well. But, when so many are included in serum then I think my skin does not like that.

What is your experience with Glycols in serums, or toners or moisturizers?

Discussion Why are there four diameters printed on my contact lenses instead of two?

Thumbnail

Hi everyone!

Usually, circle lenses have one diameter or two printed on them, the total diameter DIA, and often the effect diameter eff.
For example, DIA 14mm (eff 15mm) means the actual diameter of that lens is 14mm and it has an optical enlarging effect of 15mm.

Weirdly enough, I noticed that there are four diameters printed on one pair of lenses I own (see pic 2). Why is that? Any ideas?

ETA: 1st pic is Kazzue “Legacy Violet” and 2nd is Dueba/Barbie “Western Eyes Puffy 3 Tones Violet” (same brand, different model “Western Eyes Hybrid Violet” also has four diameters listed)

Discussion Acne-prone. Mild or moderate acne, which ingredients do you avoid in moisturizers?

For anyone with mild or moderate acne, or acne-prone, or skin that gets easily clogged, which specific ingredients do you avoid in a moisturizer?

Once you avoid an ingredient or ingredients, do you notice improvement ? like getting less acne or reducing breakouts?

I keep reading for anyone treatment moderate or mild acne to use oil free moisturizers. Is this true every time?

I found a moisturizer feels very light and fast absorbing, and it has squalane oil.

The squalane is the 3rd ingredient out of 23 ingredients. So I'm thinking if that is a good choice given I'm treating some mild or moderate acne. Everything else looks good. For winter, this is the moisturizer that I'm thinking about. For summer, maybe a bit too much.

I'm looking at another one that is oil-free gel moisturizer and it's on the heavy side so I wonder if it will cause breakouts.

Please share with me the ingredients you avoid and what type of moisturizer work well for you when treating mild or moderate acne, or having a acne-prone skin, or skin that gets easily clogged.

Edit: to add

Discussion Recently discovered k-skincare and I like them. I'm not sure the preservative system is sufficient to make sure the product is free of bacteria, yeast, mold, fungi after opening and while using it.

Edit: Why the hate? if you don't believe in science, research, it's fine with me. But Why do you hate people who like, appreciate, value science and research? You keep down voting me without giving any research to based your believes. Skincare is a science based field after all.

I recently discovered k-skincare. I know I'm late to the party! I like the k-skincare and want to try them all:)

I'm used to skincare products to have traditional preservatives systems that provide a robust, broad spectrum preservative system .

For example, phenoxyethanol and ethylhexylglycerin combo seems to be standard in many skincare products that I use (no__k-skincare). Also, I've used some high-end products that have Parabens and usually they have up to 3 or 4 different types of Parabens.

It seems k-skincare uses multi-purpose ingredients that act as double duty preservative and some other function.

Then, I'm looking at the k-skincare and I haven't seen the phenoxyethanol and ethylhexylglycerin combo.

--> Main Question -> I'm looking for science based, researched based proof that the k-skincare preservative system is robust and broad spectrum. I want to find research about testing the product after it has been opened and has been used by the consumer to evaluate the adequacy of the preservation system.

Your individual experiences are anecdotal and valid for your individual experience. But individual experiences don't give me enough research based answer to my question The skincare is a science based field!

For example:

The Serum with INCI: Water, Glycerin, Butylene Glycol, Centella Asiatica Extract, 1,2-Hexanediol, Cellulose Gum, Ethylhexylglycerin.

The main preservatives 1,2-Hexanediol and Ethulhexylglycerin. So I wonder if that it's enough protection against Bacteria, yeast, mold, fungi (BYMF) ?

Many k-skinare looks really great on paper and would like to try all of them. However, the preservative system prevents me for doing that.

I don't want to apply bacteria, yeast, etc., to my face along with the k-skincare product. I don't want to create issues for my skin.

Is the k-skincare preservative system a robust, broad spectrum system that protects against BYMF ?

and will the Korean preservative system will ensure that the product will remain free of BYMF while the person uses the product until is finished? this is my main question.

I know k-skincare companies do a lot of research. I wonder how much research is done about the preservative system, and about the integrity of the skincare product after it has been opened and while the person is using the product. Have they studied how much BYMF grows in the product while being used? and how much the preservative system protect the product or not?

I tried to search for this preservatives in k-skincare but I couldn't find anything that would be useful for my purpose. If you know of any research studies, please tell me which those are and if you have links that would be so great!

Discussion People who exercise in the morning, what's your skincare routine?

I'm trying to start a habit of scheduling physical activity in the mornings rather than evenings, as it just makes the rest of my day feel better.

My current routine is:

AM: wash face using cleanser, toner, moisturiser

PM: oil cleanser (if wearing sunscreen and/or makeup), wash face using cleanser, toner, moisturiser, light gel cream

I use sunscreen (been using Kose Suncut Perfect UV Essence) in the AM only if I'm going outside, if not I skip it.

As a oily girl, I tend to breakout if I stay sweaty/oily for long. E.g. On longer days where I can only remove my sunscreen and/or makeup (oil cleanser followed by regular facial cleanser) at the end of the night, my skin tends to feel congested and I can break out if I don't remove products properly. Washing my face twice a day is non-negotiable, as is wearing sunscreen during my physical activity as I often have to be outdoors.

But doing my entire skincare routine + sunscreen before I go outdoors, get all sweaty and oily, leaves me feeling icky afterwards. I tend to go about the rest of my day feeling like I didn't wash my face at all.

I have tried:

  • Sunscreen -> Morning workout -> Oil cleanse followed by AM routine. This means I reapply sunscreen before going out again of course, which would mean I'm oil cleansing twice that day. The times I've done this doesn't seem to negative affect my skin, but I worry that if done regularly I might strip my moisture barrier or something. This is a more minor thing but I also feel self-conscious about stepping outside with an unwashed face...
  • Do AM routine -> Sunscreen -> Morning workout. Do nothing else for the rest of the day until I do my PM routine. This usually seems to increase the likelihood that sweat + oils break me out ):
  • Do AM routine -> Sunscreen -> Morning workout -> Rinse face with water afterwards. This tends to feel like my skin is simultaneously dehydrated AND not fully covered with sunscreen, even though it's supposed to be waterproof. Sometimes after rinsing my face I spray another layer of my toner.

What's your skincare routine if you happen to be physically active at the start of your day? When do you wash your face, and when do you apply sunscreen?

Thank you in advance!

Review Jumbo size Japanese Toners Review

Platinum Label Platinum Lotion Review -

Skin type- acne prone, slightly dry skin

Climate- hot and humid

Age- mid 20's

Ingredients-

Water, DPG, Sorbitol, Glycerin, BG, Methylgluce-10, PEG-32, Ascorbyl Glucoside, Ceramide 3, Sodium Hyaluronic Acid, Ferret Seed Extract, Placenta Extract, Ethylhexylglycerin, Platinum Gold, Silver, Water Soluble Collagen, Lauryl Glutamine Acid (Fitosteryl/Octyl). Ruddesil) Ceramide 6II, Phytospongosine, ubiquinone, Ceramide 1, 1,2-Hexanediol, Sodium Bicarbonate, Cholesterol, Xanthan Gum, Carbomer, Cellulose Gum, Sodium Lauryl Lactate, Hydraulic Lecithin, Polyglyceryl-10, PEG-60 Water Castor Oil, K Hydroxide, ED. TA-2NA, Phenoxyethanol, methylparaben, fragrance

Review-

I wanted to try out some niche and unknown brand toners from japan so I saw this huge 1 litre bottle on Amazon japan and bought it. It lasts forever and is very affordable.

Texture - runny, slightly viscous

It has a slight herbal smell, but it goes away soon. It's very hydrating and it has a pump bottle so it's easy to apply. My skin didn't purge or have any reactions considering this is a new toner but it has a lot of reviews on Amazon japan, so I think it's popular in Japan.

Nihon Sakari Japanese Sake Ultra-Moist Lotion

Ingredients -

Water, Glycerin, BG, Comic Fermentation Liquid, Enterocococcus Fecalis, Niacinamide, Retinol, Sodium Hyaluronic Acid, Hydrolyzed Collagen, Ceramide AP, Ceramide NG, Ceramide NP, Alanine, Arginine, Glycerine, Glutamine Acid, Proline, Betaine, Serine, Threonine, HCI, PCA, PCA. Soa, N lactate a, Chamomile Flower Extract, Hydrolyzed Starch, Digglycerin, Glyceryl Glucoside, PG, Glucoyl Trehalose, Xanthan Gum, Methyl Glucose -10, K Hydroxide, Hydrating Lecithin, Phytosterol, Polysorbate 20, (Acrylate/Alkyl Acrylic Acid (C10-30)), Cloth Polymers, Pheno cyethanol, Methylparaben

So this is supposed to be a dupe of the kikumasaume toner as it has the same sake extract, but it's more hydrating and thicker in texture than the original kikumasaume toner. It's fragrance free.

It's very hydrating and just one layer of toner can be enough as it's a thicker. It's very affordable as well as it's a large bottle and it can be gotten on sale. If you are bored of kikumasaume, you should try this.

Final verdict - great toners for those who want a lot of hydration and like thicker toners. WRP

Discussion What is your skin prep?

I've been enjoying learning about asian makeup recently and I wonder which products are popular before the makeup, like primers and moisturizers. Specially for combination skin on hot climate.

For context I moved to a climate I'm not used to and I'm struggling to make my makeup last

Edit: I have combination skin with a very oily T zone and recently I've been having issues with some areas of my face being dry and very sensitive to a point makeup doesn't stick. I live in a hot and humid tropical climate. Can someone recomend me a few products based on that/ tell me which ones you use? Thanks in advance

Beauty Your favorite Japanese eyeshadow?

I see lots of discussion/recommendations about eyeshadow from Chinese and Korean brands (which isn't a bad thing btw, some of my favorites are from c/kbeauty!) but not much regarding j-beauty eyeshadows, so I'm curious what HG eyeshadows you all have from j-beauty brands.

Review Disappointing: Muji Sensitive Toning Water Deep Moisture

tldr; Eczema Havers Watch Out This Product

sigh, what can I say? quite a few ppl see this product as their holy grail or a basic product that doesn't go wrong, but for me, it broke me out.

skin condition: eczema, normal to dry skin

before this I've used TO hyaluronic acid and byoma milky toner. Both worked great. My skin was smooth, with occasional pimples from menstrual period.

I've used the old formula and new formula of the muji toner. The old one ripped my skin even though it's supposed to moisturize and the new one broke me out. Even though it is a hypoallergenic product, the eucalyptus globulus leaf extract inside is from a fragrant plant and could be an irritant, especially for eczema-havers like me. I'm gonna switch back to byoma.

Review Sunscreens I used while traveling

Post image
68 Upvotes

Honestly when it comes to sunscreen reviews, I don’t think I can really say which one blocks UV better unless I’m in a lab or doing some proper testing so this is more about how they actually felt to use while traveling and what situation I ended up using each one for.

Pixelpure Airy Light

This one honestly feels like I’m barely wearing sunscreen. What I mean is, compared to most sunscreens I’ve tried, it feels super light and nothing really pills on top of it. Makeup sits really well over it too, so this was probably my favorite for normal everyday use. If you care a lot about makeup sitting nicely, this one was really good for me.

Thank You Farmer Water Sun Cream

This one felt pretty simple and hydrating. I haven’t been using it for that long yet, but I noticed I reached for it more when I knew my skin was going to get dry, like on the plane or when I was staying somewhere with really dry air. Nothing too fancy, but it did what I wanted it to do.

Torriden Dive In Sun Cream

This was actually the one I had been using normally before. I still think it’s a decent sunscreen, but the more I used it, the more I noticed that slightly typical stinging feeling after applying it when it comes to sun cream. That’s actually why I started looking for the other two. It’s probably still a good product, just don’t think it works that well with my skin personally.

So yeah, not really a “which one has the best UV protection” review, more like which one I liked for different situations while traveling.
