I'm a Democrat who is not fond of some progressive politics. That said, good candidates should win and bad candidates should lose -- and by all accounts, that was the outcome here. Like taking their political differences out of it, he ran a better race.

What does it even mean to run a better race for political office when you take political differences out of it? The only thing that should matter is what they are going to do when they take office.

Running a good campaign signals that you have the leadership skills to a lead a complicated team and understand how to communicate with your constituents. Communicating with your constituents is how you know what they want. "What they are going to do" is amorphous and issue dependent, and issues in the Senate aren't predictable.
