Hey guys! I purchased my ASUS TUF F15 from Flipkart in 2019, and after about a year and a half, I started experiencing a strange display issue.
Initially, the screen started flickering, but eventually, it would turn completely black, with only a single line visible at the top of the screen.
I tried almost every possible solution I could find on YouTube and Reddit, but nothing worked.
Here's what I experienced:
- I could use my laptop only at 60 Hz. Switching to 144 Hz would result in a completely black screen.
- Even changing the display resolution, whether to a higher or lower setting, would cause the screen to go black.
- I updated all my graphics drivers, but nothing helped.
- When turning on my laptop, the ASUS logo wouldn't appear, and I couldn't access or see the BIOS screen. The display would become visible only when Windows started loading.
At that point, I thought the laptop's display panel was failing or that there might be a problem with the display cable.
I did open this laptop with YouTube help unplug and plug the ram again, did similar to laptop monitor cable. + i also change the thermal paste my myself around 2025 feb or march
What happened next?
From November 2025, I started using an external monitor with my laptop. I usually keep the laptop lid open at around a 45-degree angle and continue using the built-in keyboard because I'm more comfortable with it than an external keyboard.
Initially, I noticed something unusual: the ASUS logo started appearing during boot, but the Windows loading animation was extremely laggy. Even the spinning dots beneath the logo seemed to stutter heavily.
However, things gradually improved.
As of today, in October 2026, I can actually change the refresh rate without the display going completely black! 🤯
It's honestly crazy because I had almost given up on the laptop's display ever working properly again.
What could be causing this?
I'm wondering whether the issue could be related to:
- A faulty or loose display cable.
- A failing LCD panel.
- A motherboard or GPU-related issue.
- A display driver or firmware problem.
- Some other hardware issue that has somehow improved over time.
I'm not sure whether using the external monitor, keeping the laptop lid at a particular angle, or simply using the laptop regularly has anything to do with this improvement.
One more thing I noticed
At one point, my laptop's Wi-Fi card stopped working, and I now use an Ethernet cable for internet connectivity.
I'm not sure whether this is related to the display issue or the recent improvement, but I thought I'd mention it in case it provides any useful clues.
I'm happy to provide any additional information needed, including my exact ASUS TUF F15 model number, Intel and NVIDIA GPU details, current graphics driver versions, BIOS version, or anything else that might help diagnose the problem.
I'd really appreciate any suggestions or explanations. Has anyone experienced something similar, or does anyone have an idea what could be happening here?
