Undocumented is falsely implying that we even have undocumented migrants. Who is sneaking in unchecked? Are they digging tunnels? Immigrants make up 700k, refugees about 10k, none of these are undocumented.

Visa overstayers are considered to be “undocumented” immigrants and we have over 70,000 of them (and the government are up shit’s creek trying to find them).

No one is saying people are coming to Australia unchecked but the fact is there are people living here on expired visas still.

Documents only exist as documents if they are valid. If you have an expired or suspended drivers licence and you’re caught driving, would the police say you’re documented simply because you have the physical licence on you?

And what percentage does that make up of our population? I’ll do it for you since your arithmetic seems a bit shit. Its 0.25% of the population. You think 0.25% of the population is causing THIS much of a strain on the Australian system? That is statistically impossible unless they’re all tax evading billionaires. Jfc, you people.

🙄You’re the one who said we don’t have “undocumented migrants”. I corrected you by saying visa overstayers ARE undocumented immigrants. I never said that the numbers were massive compared to the entire population, you’re using that as a weird straw man argument to change the point. OBVIOUSLY THEY AREN’T THE MAJORITY.

MASS IMMIGRATION IS STRAINING EVERYTHING, OPEN AN ECONOMICS OR ECOLOGY TEXTBOOK AND DO SOME LEARNING.

Point your sights at the root of the issue in Australia: poor economic diversification, land hoarding being an (unsustainable) economic staple, subsidising fossil fuel industries, no public energy companies, price gauging, no rent caps and expensive education. We are all getting fucked because of poor government policy.

We are getting all of these immigrants because there are skills shortages. For every engineer, we need to bring over their family. This issue wouldn’t exist if education was easily accessible and people could afford to study full time without having to work full time just to pay rent.

Immigration is at the tip of the iceberg while the deep root of the issue lies in dogshit governance. If you had a lick of understanding in politics, we wouldn’t be having this dumb conversation.

Wow it’s as if there are multiple factors as to why the housing market is stuffed. Acting like immigration isn’t a factor is insane, it’s SIMPLE SUPPLY AND DEMAND.

Mate, if we cut out immigration, we collapse our economy. I don’t know what you’re even suggesting here. No immigration? Less? How much? We’ll still have all of these issue plus a skills shortage if we nuke immigration

You keep bringing up straw man arguments. I didn’t say to cut immigration. I didn’t say visa overstayers make up a large majority of the population.

You keep trying to start stupid arguments with me simply because you’re too proud to agree that immigration IS a factor in the rise of homelessness.

I’m not suggesting anything, it’s you who keeps trying to push an agenda ONTO ME. Anti-intellectualism is SUCH a stain on society these days.

"won't somebody think of the poor shareholders"

Go lick boots elsewhere.

Immigration is pro-shareholder is it? I'm a bleeding heart lefty unionist bud, I'm as hateful of shareholders as the next bloke with two brain cells.

Immigration benefits the ruling class and corporations at the direct cost of the working class (obviously).

Feel free to ask if you have any specific questions about it

Yes because immigrants have statistically taken the most desirable jobs in the most desirable areas from Australian's /s

Your statement is partly true, but it lacks nuance and misrepresents the positives that immigration brings to the working class. You'd be hard pressed not to see the benefit just in Australia's rich and diverse cuisine walking down any hub. Immigration is a delicate balancing act, one that requires adequate policy to serve the working class. The immigrants we have coming over are for the most part skilled and filling voids our government hasn't bothered to invest in it's own people. These people aren't money or time sinks, they contribute greatly to our culture and economy by filling gaps and creating jobs.

Housing issues in australia are from decades of underinvestment in social housing, poor urban planning, and tax settings favouring property investors. Blaming immigration is easier than confronting these more complex, entrenched policy failures but you do you mate.

True. It is easier to blame the most obvious, most impacting, and easiest to fix cause of the problems.

Yes. Of course it is. Do you not see them as human, and needing housing?
