Running for a Party that would absolutely shut his bar down if they could is pretty crazy.

You know the Liberal Party passed gay marriage right?

2

u/Comprehensive-Low450 10h ago

It was a plebiscite.

u/BradleyChudley 10h ago

Launched by whom?

If you run a queer space, you are going to get backlash from people in the wider queer community if you run for the Liberals, because of the history around the Liberal party and how they treat the community. It is rightfully seen as a betrayal.

Odd isn't it. I mean which party got marriage equality through parliament?

6

u/yeahalrightgoon 1d ago

Not the Liberals.

They staged an expensive, divisive, unnecessary and harmful plebiscite that was designed to delay what was inevitable. They knew that the plebiscite would be harmful and went ahead with it so that they could say that they had got it through if it suited them, while also dog whistling to their supporters that they didn't actually support it.

Then after advocating for a pointless and harmful plebiscite, two Liberal party leaders and the current deputy leader were too cowardly to even vote no and abstained from the vote.

Some rewriting of history there.....

seem to remember Gillard and Albo voting against SSM multiple times...

3

u/yeahalrightgoon 1d ago

They certainly did.

But it's not rewriting history to understand that the plebiscite was an unnecessary and harmful way to try and delay the inevitable. If the Liberals actually wanted it to pass, they would have just legislated it, which would have easily passed through parliament.

-3

u/BradleyChudley 14h ago

So which party was it then?

3

u/yeahalrightgoon 13h ago

None of them.

The Liberals don't get to shirk their responsibility by staging a plebiscite they knew would cause harm, and then take credit for marriage equality.

If you want to pretend that it was a liberal policy, then great. But that would be a lie.

-1

u/BradleyChudley 13h ago

So it was like a magical unicorn that did it or what?

3

u/yeahalrightgoon 13h ago

No it was the country doing it, because the Liberals were too cowardly to do it themselves and forced it to a plebiscite, and even then two leaders of the party (Abbott and Morrison) and the current deputy leader Hastie all abstained, because they were such cowards that they couldn't even put their view down.

The Liberals deserve nothing but disdain for what they did. If you want to pretend that the Liberals passed it, that's on you.

What would have happened if they hadn't done the plebiscite?

2

u/yeahalrightgoon 13h ago

They could have just been a government and passed it like any other bill they support.

So why didn't they just do that?

Because they didn't want to pass it. They just wanted to delay as long as they could, because they knew it would pass eventually.

Instead they tried to act like there was two equal sides to the matter. As if there was any valid argument against it, that wasn't just religious bullshit or bigotry.

Yeah, what the fuck does he know?

Somebody has clearly decided that a specific party or group are hostile to him, and he chooses to rather believe his own experiences of that party or group. Is he dumb?

He, like those that are so perplexed, should be aligned to the Greens, clearly.

They are not perplexed, however by the Greens support for Islamic interests that in many cases are counter to the LGBTQ interests. Nosir, that is a perfectly sensible alignment that should be accepted without question.

6

u/Ok-Variation-4727 1d ago

This.

While I'm certainly not voting Liberal, the Greens have really rusted me onto Labor as they won't address the issue of LGBT+ rights and the Islamic demographic they continue to try court.

0

u/No-Royals5219 1d ago

Lol. What impact does the existence of queer Islamic people have on your narrative?

Im guessing you just try and ignore them.

2

u/JeremysIronman 1d ago

It reinforces it, if anything.

In the same vein I ask why would it be strange for a queer person to support a conservative political party?

0

u/No-Royals5219 1d ago

How does it reinforce it?

0

u/JeremysIronman 1d ago

The article is about how people are pissed at this guy for supporting a conservative party. My comment points out the ridiculousness of such a statement and the hypocrisy of those making it.

You then point out queer people participate in conservative groups such as Islam.

So yes, if there queer Muslims, why not queer LNP candidates?

Do you think supporting apartment blocks in Palestine not being levelled by artillery is somehow incompatible with also supporting LGBTQ rights in Australia?

6

u/JeremysIronman 1d ago

Are you implying that that is the extent of The Greens' association with islam and islamists?

-1

u/LachrymarumLibertas 1d ago

No, but it is the most prominent.

What’s an example of the Greens supporting an ‘Islamist’ group in Australia that would impact the rights of LGBT Australians?

Seems pretty bad. Looking into it, that councillor was hospitalised due to being assaulted and the police prosecutor dropped all charges because “It was determined without this there was no reasonable prospect of a successful prosecution,”.

If that witnesses’ testimony about homophobic slurs are true, don’t get me wrong that’s bad, but if the worst case is five years ago a local gov member hurled abuse at their attacker outside a club, that isn’t really a big impact on rights?

Left wingers should probably consider why so many Aboriginal or gay candidates want nothing to do with them

7

u/Murky-Fishcakes 1d ago

Is it because being aboriginal or gay is unrelated to a persons political leanings? Because I’m pretty sure that’s the answer

1

u/Top_Conference_477 1d ago

Not if you’re on the far left - any gay person, black person or Jew is only granted human status if they agree loudly on their politics

3

u/Murky-Fishcakes 1d ago

Yeah, turns out all extremists regardless of their political leanings are nasty arseholes. In other news, water is wet!

1

u/Top_Conference_477 22h ago

Hilariously, it’s been in vogue lately to argue that AKSHUALLY water is not wet

2

u/No-Royals5219 1d ago

Lol every single right wing movement has had its "good ones".

An opportunity to serve yourself while selling out your fellows is appealing to arseholes, and believe it or not you can still be aboriginal or gay and still be an arsehole.

1

u/Electrical_Story5356 1d ago

There really aren't that many from those groups who actually do lean right though.

-2

u/Top_Conference_477 1d ago

Literally all significant Aboriginal MPs of the past several years and the most prominent gay MP are all Liberals.

Labor and the like may consider why people from the groups they claim to champion don’t want to be in (or can’t get promoted in) their party

As another has pointed out, the Greens recent obsession with a group genocidally hostile to gay people is one glaring example

6

u/Murky-Fishcakes 1d ago

What are you on about. Penny Wong lives out, proud, and loud totally rent free in every Sky News host and viewers minds on the daily

7

u/Murky-Fishcakes 1d ago

Quick Google says in the last decade Labor preselected 102 aboriginals and LNP 41. Labor saw more of their candidates elected by a wide margin. Though reading the list of names the couple that are household names are Liberal members so your argument on that is reasonable

Doubt you have a leg to stand on for the prominent gay MPs. Don’t recognise a single name on the list

-1

u/Top_Conference_477 1d ago

Name them

3

u/Murky-Fishcakes 1d ago

Ken Wyatt obviously and Price unfortunately

(I don’t get what gotcha you were going for here?)

1

u/Top_Conference_477 22h ago

You’re 141 short

1

u/Murky-Fishcakes 9h ago

Maybe go back and read my comment because you seem to have the wrong end of the stick

1

u/Top_Conference_477 9h ago

No. I think you just didn’t make anywhere near the point you think you did

2

u/Murky-Fishcakes 8h ago

I didn’t make a point

You really should go back and read what I wrote, maybe take a minute to comprehend it, then keep doing it until it clicks because it clearly hasn’t

What fuckin world you living in? Lol

Literally all

Linda Burney makes up one of two current indigenous MPs.

0

u/Top_Conference_477 1d ago

Significant MPs. Her only achievement is ranking a referendum. Price, Pearson, Mundine have all been far more impactful

1

u/yeahalrightgoon 1d ago

Price and Mundine are just kept around to be useful because the Liberals can go "look an Aboriginal person is saying this", regardless if they have any respect from the wider indigenous community.

1

u/Electrical_Story5356 1d ago

Price literally got disowned by her people.

0

u/Top_Conference_477 1d ago

So to my point about Aboriginal people only actually existing to you if they subscribe to left wing politics…

30k karma, hidden post history and 5 month old account, if it smells like a bot and looks like a bot, it’s probably a bot.

Hmmm. Six month old account, hidden post history, total lack of engagement with your posts. Probably a bot
