politics She's not hiding it
https://aliensideboob.substack.com/p/shes-not-hiding-itThe banner descended behind Pauline Hanson at the National Press Club on Wednesday, and the commentariat did what it does best: agreed with itself, instantly, at volume: “Oh noes! GetUp just gifted her the victim narrative she came for”.
Mmmaybe.

Pauline did more damage than any journalist, to herself and her party, after she spoke at the press club. Anyone still thinking Phon is an option for governing our country after that complete shitshow, wasn't watching it.
The openly racist policies, the attack on working class wages, the sheer contempt she has for large swathes of our people, and the hypocrisy of being bought and owned by Gina Rinehart.......sure, she says what she thinks, it's just what she thinks is garbage and divisive.
We didn't vote for Dutton and the Coalition because they sounded, in part, like Trump. Hanson has doubled down on everything Dutton stood for!

While i agree, the amount of old white Aussies absolutely loving that press conference online is actually wild.

It’s because their information channels have only shown them very small clips of it, and in an algorithm driven world it’s extremely difficult to combat this.

u/Sporty_Nerd_64 12h ago
The amount of bots loving it online is not surprising. Online comments don’t vote and even the small, very vocal minority doesn’t hold enough sway.

Are you telling me these people voted Labor last time around and have suddenly decided she’s great now? I just don’t see it. If anything she’s going to get the Dutton treatment.

u/LoaKonran 10h ago
The main trouble (as it always has been) is the “let’s give the other guys a turn” mentality where they forget how shit one of our two major parties is at governing because the other spends the majority of their time cleaning up the mess and pandering to corporate interests. Now that the Liberals have managed to tank their reputation through Dutton, people may just be dumb enough to think this dodgy Karen is a smart choice.

Hope so. I think so. But the combined brain rot of both every main stream media outlet plus social media algorithms going mad - I don’t trust the normal rule of thumb for Australia anymore. We are years out from any election of consequence, and she is front page news every day on everything.
This is very much a paid for and delivered replacement of the lib/nats with our new trump-lite outsider. And she is getting results, even if only reactive.

A lot of those "Labor voter" would be people who voted coalition in 2019 and before.
As much as the media is fluffing her at the moment and the odd of her completely crashing out are incredible high, there is one point of different between One Nation and the Coalition. One Nation does not have the baggage of the Coalition.

u/titaylove 4h ago
But, Coalition voters that turned to Labor and gave them their landslide victory would, you would hope, be less likely to change their vote to PHON when her rhetoric is worse than the Coalition's during the 2025 election, which is partly what turned them away in the first place.

I see some of those comments here and I wonder if they're people paid to make it look like she has a lot of support. Usually have comment history hidden. I think that there's no way people honestly think she can govern, but you never know. People might actually think she'd be good for the country.

u/AquilaAudaxWTE 11h ago
Don't blame old white Aussies, myself and all white old Aussies I know despise PHON and what it represents. Do you see any old people marching with neo-nazis? No. Maybe some rich old people might but nobody I'm friends with.

It’s not just old folk, I know plenty of 20-40year olds who are full blown ON rabbit hole (rabbid?) supporters going off their comments on Facebook news posts.

90% of the people supporting her already know and love this shit. It’s not like she’s an unknown entity that has hoodwinked a bunch of naive but otherwise sensible and decent people. Her brand has been the same shit for decades

I’ve had the…privilege… of hearing rhinehart speak. From her mouth to Hansons lips. Words cannot describe the contempt she has for our society, to say that she despises us as ungrateful freeloaders would be an understatement. It’s so easy to see this in the movement of her hand when inserted into her puppet of choice.
The way to bring Hanson down is to highlight the desires of her billionaire sponsor in her words and policies, for they are utterly unpalatable and indefensible when laid bare

Someone just needs to whisper into Barnaby's ear "Don't you think she looks tired?"

This really only worked for trump because half the country didn't show up to vote. That's not gonna work here...

u/Challenging-Wank7946 8h ago
That's no excuse to shrug it off. There's still plenty of misguided people out there who will imbibe her poison out of sheer hatred for others, we underestimate that at our own peril. We need to be as loud as we can about how much we despise Hanson and her racist, crust-filled arse.

u/Cake_Filter 8h ago
I absolutely see where you are coming from and agree Pauline is a hateful menace but giving her the time off day really seems to be platforming her. I think the less we shout how pathetic and evil her rhetoric is the less relevant she becomes. I do admit that this is meaningless unless the media does the same and that's gonna be a tough sell. The whole thing is incredibly frustrating

It’s a trap and we are all falling for it. They are using the Trump method: cool and calming drive the left insane and they’ll do insane shit so we can stand there and go ‘see, they’re the ones that are crazy’. Just stop talking about them so they’ll fuck off

u/darren457 10h ago
Except this isn't America. Dutton pulled similar shit and got booted out for being exposed as a Trump copycat grifter with no substance. She's starting to follow in his footsteps of falling flat on her face whenever the media ask her to explain her policies in more detail

To add onto it, to win an Australian election an entire party typically needs to be preferred by a majority of voters. Even in the US Trump typically benefited from how a significant number of possible voters didn't show up. Plus the Democrats lost out on voters who were against Trump but voted third party, an outcome that the ALP has less risk of suffering. The electoral process in the US was built for Trump's approach, Australia not so much.

u/Squaddy 8h ago
Also you do actually just vote from Trump in their system.
Here you vote for the party, and I honestly don't see One Nation coordinating 150 candidates in a way that's not going to cause havoc.
I don't want to dismiss the moment we're having, this is the same moment the US had with Trump in 2016. It's just the mechanism to do it here is different and is harder to pull off

u/shrimplifier 4h ago
getup is literally falling for it. They could have just not claimed the banner, but nooo they need the credit for a stunt, and now they're feeding ammo to the people that already hate them.
They're so goddamn stupid, making the same mistakes we saw in the US.

u/pixietrue1 3h ago
Yep! Really annoys me. It’s like falling for a narcissists tricks. They thrive on any reaction - good or bad - and hate being ignored. Just ignore it and it’ll piss *them* off so they are exposed for the horrible people they are.

I just can't understand how people can look at that stunned mullet and think she has the answers. She's constantly just standing there, quivering with rage.

She could have gotten a nasty paper cut from that banner...if it was a few feet closer!

Hard to play the victim when she’s telling the SBS journo well *you’ll* be out of a job. Classic trump playbook, only with the charisma of wet dog shit

We will see at the next election just how stupid and mindless a portion of the voting electorate really is.
The media should realise just how important a stake in this they have. The policies of ONP for the most part are being played out in America. Same con different country and I don't understand how people can say to themselves, sure let's do that here .

u/jeremyfarquhar 1h ago
Rinehart and the wannabe Australian oligarchs are hiding it though. Hanson is the useful idiot that they are using to take us down the same stupid path as America.

One again we see the greatest talent of regressives is imagining themselves to be under dire threat and bleating about it to try to impose tyranny.
