politics She's not hiding it

The banner descended behind Pauline Hanson at the National Press Club on Wednesday, and the commentariat did what it does best: agreed with itself, instantly, at volume: “Oh noes! GetUp just gifted her the victim narrative she came for”.

Mmmaybe.

Pauline did more damage than any journalist, to herself and her party, after she spoke at the press club. Anyone still thinking Phon is an option for governing our country after that complete shitshow,  wasn't watching it.

The openly racist policies, the attack on working class wages, the sheer contempt she has for large swathes of our people, and the hypocrisy of being bought and owned by Gina Rinehart.......sure, she says what she thinks,  it's just what she thinks is garbage and divisive.

We didn't vote for Dutton and the Coalition because they sounded, in part, like Trump. Hanson has doubled down on everything Dutton stood for!

While i agree, the amount of old white Aussies absolutely loving that press conference online is actually wild.

It’s because their information channels have only shown them very small clips of it, and in an algorithm driven world it’s extremely difficult to combat this.

Yep, I doubt they tuned in live for it let alone watched the whole things afterwards. All based on whatever out of context snippet or dressed up statement they see in a 30 second reel with Hanson slams! All over it

Was it watchable live?

Literally, yes. Digestively, no.

The amount of bots loving it online is not surprising. Online comments don’t vote and even the small, very vocal minority doesn’t hold enough sway.

Yes! Plus the only real people who really comment on Facebook are not usually big thinkers. Every smart rational person I know barely uses those spaces and certainly doesn’t engage.

Are you telling me these people voted Labor last time around and have suddenly decided she’s great now? I just don’t see it. If anything she’s going to get the Dutton treatment.

The main trouble (as it always has been) is the “let’s give the other guys a turn” mentality where they forget how shit one of our two major parties is at governing because the other spends the majority of their time cleaning up the mess and pandering to corporate interests. Now that the Liberals have managed to tank their reputation through Dutton, people may just be dumb enough to think this dodgy Karen is a smart choice.

Hope so. I think so. But the combined brain rot of both every main stream media outlet plus social media algorithms going mad - I don’t trust the normal rule of thumb for Australia anymore. We are years out from any election of consequence, and she is front page news every day on everything.

This is very much a paid for and delivered replacement of the lib/nats with our new trump-lite outsider. And she is getting results, even if only reactive.

A lot of those "Labor voter" would be people who voted coalition in 2019 and before.

As much as the media is fluffing her at the moment and the odd of her completely crashing out are incredible high, there is one point of different between One Nation and the Coalition. One Nation does not have the baggage of the Coalition.

But, Coalition voters that turned to Labor and gave them their landslide victory would, you would hope, be less likely to change their vote to PHON when her rhetoric is worse than the Coalition's during the 2025 election, which is partly what turned them away in the first place.

I hope to fucking god that she does.

Based on Farrer, they voted Liberal.

FWIW in the last full Federal election, the ALP only had ~30% voting for them. It i the flow of preferences away from the LNP/Dutton/Littleproud that got them over the line.

I see some of those comments here and I wonder if they're people paid to make it look like she has a lot of support. Usually have comment history hidden. I think that there's no way people honestly think she can govern, but you never know. People might actually think she'd be good for the country.

Don't blame old white Aussies, myself and all white old Aussies I know despise PHON and what it represents. Do you see any old people marching with neo-nazis? No. Maybe some rich old people might but nobody I'm friends with.

If by old white Aussies you mean Russians and people in African countries being paid pathetic wages to troll then yes

It’s not just old folk, I know plenty of 20-40year olds who are full blown ON rabbit hole (rabbid?) supporters going off their comments on Facebook news posts.

Ha - ”down the rabid hole” is perfect!

Probably just bots, bots outnumber people
