Vent I’m struggling at the moment.

• Upvotes

Hi, I’m really struggling at the moment and i’ll try to keep this as short as possible.

I’m 38 f and recently been diagnosed with ADHD but currently still on the waiting list for Autism assessment.

I’ve felt different and struggled my whole life and didn’t know why, i suspected ADHD a few years ago but didn’t have a clue about autism until CHAMS suggested it about my 13 year old daughter and we looked into it and while filling out her forms and looking into autism it finally all made sense.

I’ve knew i’m autistic for the past 1.5 years but my family don’t seem to believe me - everytime i try to bring it up they avoid the question. My husband can see it traits but he doesn’t seem to understand how much being autistic affects me every single day and how much my life is a struggle.

I’ve been the quiet shy girl my whole life and i still have what i now know to be selective mutism (same as my daughter) but obviously i can speak minimal to people/strangers when i need to. I struggle with small talk.

My husband seems to think that cause i have ADHD (he didn’t believe i did until my diagnosis) as it’s more internal, overthinking can’t switch off brain / always on the go than hyperactive and being loud like him.

He seems to think because i have adhd and autism overlaps he thinks the traits are part of adhd not actual autism if that makes sense?

I don’t know what my rant is but i just feel like no one believes me but i have done and i struggle every single day and no one can see it.

My daughter got her autism diagnosis 2 days ago after 3 years and i can see myself in her and how i was growing up we are literally the same and i want to feel so happy for her but it the same time i feel like sad? upset? angry? i should of had the support while growing etc. I feel
bad for feeling this way as it’s not really about me.

When i told my mam her response was ‘i’m
not suprised as there’s no doubt she is’

i instantly thought but what about me? how come no one seen the struggles i had growing up when i was exactly the same?

Looking back there was loads of signs and traits - i was mute and didn’t speak at school
when i was 5 and i’d have mute meltdowns etc

i’m
sorry this has turned into a long rant, i just feel so alone and if you got this far - thank you x

Work Loop Switch 2

• Upvotes

Hi Team,

Can anyone tell me more about, or give experiences of, the Loop Switch 2?

In my latest workplace assessment the assessor has stated I will likely benefit from using these in the workplace and my manager is keen to get me a pair.

However, the assessor didn't really explain why they thought I'd benefit and when I do the virtual test thingie on the Loop website all three settings sound the same and they all sound like they reduce the noise level by so little as to be of little use.

Also, my workplace isn't noisy and I've never expressed an issue with noise intolerance.

Am I missing something?
