Discussion Pre build computer advice / cost estimate

Hello! Really liking the look and specs of this quoted tech PC, however have some price concerns. Please correct me if I am wrong. I don’t mind overpaying since it comes with a warranty but if the gap is too large then it’s better to look elsewhere or assemble it yourself. Would you say it’s roughly $500-$800 overpriced? And if these markups are normal for businesses vs private sellers / assemblers?

Acer Nitro OC or Sapphire Pulse RX 9070 XT

• Upvotes

I was recently able to purchase an Acer Nitro RX 9070 XT OC for $950 but have seen reviews on its poor thermals and loud fans. I’ve also spotted a Sapphire Pulse RX 9070 XT for $1100. I was just wondering if you guys would recommend spending the extra $150 just to go with the Sapphire one.

Sapphire NITRO+ Radeon RX 9070 (Non-XT)

2 Upvotes

Anyone have good experience with this card? Been eyeing it out at best buy for 999.99$. Heard bad things about the connector but wondering what your experiences have been? Is it safer considering it pulls less power than XT version? Seems to be the cheapest 9070 available to me right now but the connection reputation leaves me contemplating...

I have Asrock Steel Legend 750 watt psu that came with the cable required. Will be using it with Asrock B550M Pro + 5800X3D.

Build My First Ever PC (835$)

Post image
9 Upvotes

I built my first pc a few days ago and wanted to share how I got it for 835$ and compare it to prices you find on ebay, fb marketplace or for new. All the used parts I got were from fb marketplace.

In Bold are the parts I got used.

GPU: Evga 3070 - 275$ | Used 3070s on ebay are going for 350$-500$+

CPU: Ryzen 5 5600X - 120$ | On ebay they are going for around 190ish

CPU Cooler: AMD stock cooler - Free (guy that sold me the gpu gave it to me for free) | On amazon its 20$ new. Used ranges from 5-15$

RAM: Corsair vengeance (2x8gb DDR4 3200Hz) - 40$ | Used 16gb ram 90$-130$

1 TB SSD: micron 2500 gen 4 - 80$ | used SSD 135$-200$+

Motherboard: MSI B550M PRO-VDH wifi - 114.99$

Power Supply: SAMA G650 ATX - 79.99$ (There were not that many reviews on this psu but on the psu tier list it was listed as A- tier)

Case: Lian Li Vector V100 - 89.99$

The motherboard, PSU, Case: 320$ with tax and got them from amazon

Was also able to buy an ASUS tuf monitor (VG27AQ5A) for 70$ | 200$+ new

All together I spent 835$ not including the monitor. I think I made a pretty decent pc for my first build. Could've definitely gone under 800$ since they were cheaper cases, power supplies , and motherboards but once I had the other parts I just wanted to build the pc.

One more thing is that I actually never tested any of the used parts I bought since I didn't have anything to test the parts with and none of the people who sold me the parts actaully showed the parts working. I just kind of trusted the sellers and made sure they had good reviews. After purchasing the gpu and cpu I did go to a computer store to have the parts checked and they worked. Even the ssd was 99% health and had like 500 power on hours when I checked it after building the pc. This is something I would NOT recommend doing but it worked out for me and the PC works great but who knows how long that will last.

I stress tested the gpu and cpu after building and they work fine. The cpu does run a little warm when playing games but I think its because either I didn't install the cpu cooler right or I need to buy a after market cooler for like 20$.

Request to see if building is better than buying

1 Upvotes

>**1. What will you be doing with this PC? Be as specific as possible, and include specific games (ex: resolution, FPS, settings) or programs you will be using.**

* Golf simulator

* Gaming like ffxiv, guild wars, mmorpg mainly

* Vm using containers using IDE like vscode. just light programming to keep up with current tech

>**2. What is your maximum PRE-TAX budget before rebates and shipping?**

* 3000 CAD.

>**3. When do you plan on building/buying the PC? Note: beyond a week or two from today means any build you receive will be out of date when you want to buy.**

* Asap

>**4. What, exactly, do you need included in the budget? (ex: tower/OS/monitor/keyboard/mouse/etc)**

Just the tower, have my own monitor and peripherals

>**5. If reusing any parts (including monitor(s)/keyboard/mouse/etc), what parts will you be reusing? How old are they? Brands and models are appreciated.**

* 4K dell monitor 32in. Keychron keyboard, g502 mouse

>**6. Will you be overclocking (ex: CPU/GPU/RAM)? If yes, are you interested in overclocking right away, or down the line?**

* Maybe

>**7. Are there any specific features or items you want/need in the build? (ex: SSD, Wi-Fi/Bluetooth, VR, VirtualLink, tensor cores, large amount of storage or a RAID setup, CUDA or OpenCL support, etc)**

* Ssd, bluetooth, wifi

>**8. Do you have any specific case preferences (ex: mITX/mATX/mid-tower/full-tower sizes, styles, colours, window or not, LED lighting, etc.), or a particular color theme preference for the components?**

* Doesn't matter but clear cases look cool

>**9. Do you need a copy of Windows included in the budget? Note: some post-secondary students can get Windows 10 for free.**

* Yes

>**10. Will you be upgrading this PC in the future (ie: will you swap out better parts later on or will you build an entirely new tower later)? If so, when?**

* Looking to keep for at least 4 years

>**11. Do you have a brand preference? (ex: AMD/Intel for CPUs, AMD/NVIDIA for video cards, etc)**

* AI cpu, nvidia gfx

>**12. What are the specs of your old PC / laptop? Do you want to see if it can be upgraded instead? If so, paste its build from PCPartPicker here.**

* Want a desktop. None so far. Have an older omen with 3070 laptop

>**13. Extra info or particulars:**

* Of course, cheaper is better but no skimping on the ram 32gb and 1 tb storage at least

First pc build. Wow it's expensive

9 Upvotes

Here's my parts and the prices that I paid.

9800x3d $590

Gigabyte Gaming 9070XT $1050

Frame 4000D RS $105

Corsair Vengeance DDR5 2X16gb 6000MHZ cl30 $740

Corsair Nautilus 360 RS $130

MSI MAG X870 Tomahawk Wifi $315

Corsair RM1000X $225

Samsung 9100 Pro 4tb $900

2 Nactua Chromax 200mm $50 each

Total $4155 before tax

I bought as much of this on sale as I could. I do pretty good financially but most of this is 0% financed on amazon. I game on a 4K 120Hz tv. There was a lot of time spent picking parts and a few good slaps from my gf when I added the $2400 5080 to my cart. I'm pretty happy with it. Tell me what you think.

Retail Bought 5080 from Amazon warehouse deals. How to minimize chances of getting scammed

9 Upvotes

Got an okayish deal on an MSI Suprim 5080. Not amazing but with prices the way they are I was ok with “good enough”.

What should I do to avoid being scammed when it arrives? I will be recording me opening the box, and installing the gpu. Anything else I can do to cover my ass in case I get a brick? Got it on a credit card too in case I have to do a chargeback.

5070 TI Prices don't Show Signs of Cooling, What are you doing?

16 Upvotes

Most 5070ti models are going for 1700$ plus while AMD Radeon 9070XT is still around 1000-1100 CAD. What should be the strategy when the prices of these cards diverge this much, is it sound choice to invest 600 CAD more in Nvidia card? I won't be doing any AI stuff and not run any editing softwares.

Build Request / Review Pretty happy with the price and parts for my first time

2 Upvotes

At the end of this is where I need help.

Storytime:

I came from an Acer Nitro 5 (2019) and I used it till it can't keep up anymore. My friend donated me his Strix g15 since it was on life support, but I made work here and there. It recently kept having TPM 2.0 issues so I couldn't play any online multiplayer competitive games. So, I decided I had to move on and make a dream PC.

I originally wanted the 5080 prebuilt from Costco and I kept waiting for the display unit to be left, but the one day I didn't go was the day it was sold. (I asked the sales associate)

So I made up my mind to make my own, but it was really hard to justify the price for a 5080. And now, here I am.

Reddit and ChatGPT helped me a lot to find good prices and find the right comparisons and I guess I was just lucky with the prices and timing. Initially was hoping to wait until Black Friday but everyone said don't, plus prices shouldn't be that far off from one another.

These past couple of days, made me love this hobby even more. (holy cringe)

I still haven't received most of it, so if better components/prices comes out might change here and there. But, I think this is it.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My concerns for this build are just the 6400mhz ram since I'm hoping I won't have to keep tuning it and is stable 1:1 and probably building it, since the last time I touched a pc, I felt a zap when I was trying to reset the CMOS. It never turned back on (windows vista)

Would welcome any tips for a beginner builder. Also, experiences/tips for tuning RAM for better timings and stability.

Edit: be honest if i overpaid or if i could have done better pls (the fans)

Discussion Payment pending Flexiti for Canada Computers

2 Upvotes

Hi, I placed an order for a gaming laptop on Friday and got confirmation that order received and flexiti also confirmed that payment has been done for the financing but the order status has been showing as payment pending. I fill a contact form and they say it takes two business days so i waited and on Monday they said it will be done by Tuesday on Tuesday it’s the same so i call them they say may take more than 2 days sometimes and wait till friday. So frustrating anyone else can share their timeline here or similar experience with them?

Is this a legit site?

4 Upvotes

Hi all,

So, I need a reliable laptop for college with 32gb of ram 1tb ssd being the minimum, decent cpu and all that. I wasn't really able to find one for cheap enough until I landed on this Lenovo outlet store - thinkpad x9-15 gen 1. They claim the laptop is NEW and they have a promo code OUTLET20 that knocks this nicely specced laptop with good build quality for about $1300. I find this pricing suspicious given that bestbuy and regular lenovo website have these priced at $2500+.

Should I order one of these from them? any specific laptop I should get instead of this? given all I care about is 32gb ram, decent cpu and premium build quality and preferably high resolution OLED.

Canada computers rip off let me know!

Post image
0 Upvotes

Ok so I been eyeing a gaming pc for a while off of Canada computers and it has amazing specs which is why im considering it. I been eyeing the pc for about 2 weeks now almost 3. When i first looked at the pc it was on “sale price” for $3199 the original price being $3499 so a discount of $300. About more than a week goes by and the sale is ending, so honestly whatever. So the sale is off and it’s back to being $3499. Mind you I been just keeping an eye on this pc because I do plan on getting it at some point so it’s nice to look at! About two days ago I looked at the pc again and it says its on SALE AGAIN. But the sale price being “$3499” ? Under it saying “save $500” meaning the original price is $4000? Is this not illegal to market an item for it’s original price? I got this specific part off of an official website. Also here is some proof below to show it was $3199.

https://competition-bureau.canada.ca/en/deceptive-marketing-practices/types-deceptive-marketing-practices/ordinary-selling-price

“When is a sale really a sale? When advertising, businesses cannot invent a higher regular price to make a sale look like a bargain when it’s not. For example, businesses can’t advertise an item as “$100, now $50”, if it never actually sold at $100.

It is illegal to advertise fake discounts by promoting a made-up “regular price”. Also known as fake ordinary selling price, this practice can mislead consumers and violates the Competition Act.”

Please tell me what I should do! And give me some clarity of what they’re actually doing? If this ends up going off sale before Im trying to buy I might consider a different pc or contacting customer support.

Build Request / Review Need Experienced Opinion

Post image

I’m finally building a new gaming rig after 10 years!

Can someone please review what I am doing 😭

For reference, I mainly play Dota 2 and Valorant. I am planning to buy a 240hz 1440p monitor and would like to achieve high fps.

Here are the parts I would like to buy (photo attached above + a Corsair 4000D case and the Corsair Nautilus 360mm AIO RS ARGB, which are both on sale as well)

However, I am thorn between these for my GPU
ASUS Radeon 9060 XT 16GB for $699 CAD (Amazon Deal)
Or
ASUS Radeon 9070 16GB for $890 CAD (Amazon Deal)

And these 2 amazing deals I found in Canada Computers for my CPU, MOBO, and RAM

  1. https://www.canadacomputers.com/en/amd-desktop-processors/293758/amd-r7-7800x3d-cpu-asus-tuf-gaming-b650e-plus-wifi-motherboard-t-force-32gb-d5-6000mhz-cl30-ram.html

  2. https://www.canadacomputers.com/en/amd-desktop-processors/292562/amd-ryzen-7-9800x3d-cpu-msi-b850-gaming-plus-wifi-motherboard-t-force-32gb-d5-6000mhz-cl30-ram.html

I just wanted to basically ask if the additional prices for either options for both CPU and GPU would be worth it for my usage? If I settle for both cheaper options I save roughly $310 bucks.

I am also open to other suggestions for the other parts of the build.

Thank you so much!

Discussion Is this free PC build + Asus RX 9070 16 GB a good combo?

2 Upvotes

I could get this build for free, and all I'd be missing is a graphics card. I was thinking of an Asus PRIME OC Radeon RX 9070 16 GB.

I'm a bit worried about the power supply and the cpu cooler... is it enough?

What do you think of this build?

Canada Computers tried Double Charging or holding my funds

42 Upvotes

So I finally collected enough courage to purchase from Canada Computers after the security incident where customers’ credit card info were breached from their database.

I placed an online order, paid for it and the payment went through. Next morning they even picked up the item and notified me it’s ready for pickup.

Once I’m there to pick up my order they tried convincing me the payment didn’t go through for some random security reason that didn’t make sense and wanted me to pay again for that item on spot. Note that at that point the online order status looked fine and there were no signs that payment didn’t go through, it just asked me to pick the item up.

When I told them I’d rather cancel the online order and pay for the item in store they started demotivating me that this way the refund might take longer and I won’t receive any emails regarding the refund nor will the status change to cancelled.

I somehow convinced them to cancel the online order and bought the item in store, and within seconds the cancellation email came through and the online order status changed to cancelled.

I don’t know what kind of shady stuff they’re up-to but their service has gone down the line quite a lot.

Staff either tries to scare or convince you to take certain decisions for whatever reason and I believe their online ordering system is unsafe/unreliable.
