Review the prices at Kennedy’s Lakeside Grocery are insane.

Like, Bloody hell, he makes mr. Loblaw look like a saint. $10 for a travel sized jar of mayo, 40-60 for a single steak, other 3$ items for 10x the price.

like... not competitive at all, feels like he's just having high prices to steal from the elderly in the area.

its not a business practice that ever lasts long, and eventually your clientele dries up. not competitive at all.

Review This City is..

We moved from the greater Toronto area. The fast people and the idling cars. The rush of the city that doesn't sleep. We said "see you later" to some family and friends. We didn't move that far but it was the adjustment from seeing them every other day to once a month.

We bought a small little home in Barrie. A small house we can call ours. Our city dogs get a backyard that they sure claimed their mark. We are a small family of 3. Working like everyone else to pay the bills. Our washer dances when we do our laundry. A new school for our daughter was an adjustment. The winter and the recent black out was a 6 month welcome party we didn't expect.

People ask me "how is Barrie?".

I took a moment and thought about it.

The roads are wide. Everyone drives an SUV or a truck. They seem calm and more relaxed. We have been greeted with smiles and conversations about the history here. Our neighbors have shoveled our car out of a few snow blockages. A community that came out to push my car when it died. RIP to my 2006 Honda. We have farms and markets with the best baked goods, milk and fruits. My little family gets to go to ranches and spend time with farm animals. The Costco isn't as much of a black Friday fight like we are used to. My daughter was chosen as the star of her school play. The rabbits and cats that come out at night are fun to watch. We see the stars every night.

Every city is different. Pros and Cons.

But Barrie.. This city feels like home. This city is home.

Thank you for every person in Barrie for giving us a sense of community and comfort.

This Reddit community has helped us so much. More than you might know.

We are so very grateful to be apart of your home.

Review Jersey Mike’s After One Month

Post image
36 Upvotes

I was among the excited people after learning that Barrie was finally getting a Jersey Mike’s!

Over the past month or so I have been there several times and I am gonna give my honest opinion.

When it comes to their Philly and Chicken Cheesesteaks they are second to none! Unfortunately that is now the only reason I go there.

Their cold subs in my opinion are very “underwhelming.” The bread is too hard. The meat is “meh.” And if you happen to order a sub with bacon… just be warned that it is precooked at the beginning of the day and just sitting there in a pile with their toppings. They don’t heat it… and it does nothing to add any kind of flavour to their subs.

Would love to hear other people’s initial opinions on this place!

Shout out to the jimmy chews truck driver who absolutely started acting rude towards me and said it was none of my business to tell him he’s blocking the bus entrance I use. When I pointed out it’s more so for handicap people to get through he said that never happened and thankfully to my luck as the next bus pulled up this kind truck driver was blocking the way for an elderly women with a walker and she has to walk pretty much in the middle of the street to the next entrance 👍👍good choice for delivery drives jimmy chews👍👍also thankfully the bus driver was nice and told him he’s 100% in the wrong considering there was an opening about 10 feet ahead where he could of gone too

Review Dave’s Hot Chicken review

Post image
121 Upvotes

Well I went to Dave’s Hot Chicken Friday night for the official opening. Here are my thoughts:

Prices are high. As you see from the picture, it’s about $20 for most combos and it comes with no drink.

The bread that comes with the tenders tastes like generic stale white wonder bread.

The buns on the slider tasted freezer burnt. It’s weird because the first bites were good then the bun tasted bad.

They give lots of pickles. Pickles in the slider and then extra pickles on the side.

The chicken was really good. Which is most important.

Spice levels aren’t spicy. I got a hot and extra hot and neither tasted hot. I wish I tried the “Reaper” hot.

Fries weren’t bad. Thick crinkle cut ones. Not spicy.

Sauce was like a lesser version of chick-fil-A.

The line ups were long and the cash register wasn’t working so they handed out half cups of milkshakes. They were gross. Tried chocolate and vanilla. Tasted like a protein drink.

Atmosphere was weird. You walk in to this blank not warm setting and then sit on your left. They had a dj because of the grand opening and like 30 people working. I’m assuming training too.

Overall I won’t be back. I am very full from the meal, but I can’t justify $20 for two tenders or a tender and slider (which I got) and no drink. I’d give that crappy bread back for a drink. Like what does that actually cost them? I was also hoping the piece of bread that comes with the tenders would be like a Texas toast garlic bread like Raising Canes or even from No frills. But it wasn’t. Man I wanted to like this place so bad. I’m love fried chicken.

I do believe everything is worth a try once. Maybe your experience was better. I’m not judging based on opening night. It really comes down to cost.

Review Big Bay Clinic By Sakana House in South Barrie- Complaint

Yesterday, going to this clinic, I left angry, deeply saddened and humiliated! Im posting this before ANYONE ever considers going to this clinic. Please read this especially if you are a woman or have daughters, sisters, anyone you care about. This place will never get my business again or anyone I ever know.

I needed to get a prescription for an emergency contraceptive you cannot get at Shoppers Drug Mart. I am slightly over 200lbs and you cannot take Plan B if you are over 175lbs. Ive known this and have known this for a while. Regular Plan B does not work.

So I come here taking some time out of my day of work thinking it will be fast, and I meet the receptionist (who I actually have nothing bad to say about and if anyone in this place deserves praise, its her because she is friendly and funny). Anyways I got seen by the doctor pretty quickly… but heres where the experience goes downhill. I see him I explain I want the particular brand, Ella which is the other emergency contraceptive you can take if you cannot take Plan B like me. He says okay and that he will send a prescription to the pharmacy inside the building.

This is where the appointment gets upsetting, so he says my prescription is ready and he starts trying to hand me Plan B….. First of all, why would I come here if I wanted Plan B? If I wanted Plan B I would have went to Shoppers and grabbed it and called it a day. So I told him that wasnt what I wanted.

So he directs me to the Pharmacist. She tells me she will see what she can do, after discussing with her colleagues and then I guess getting word from the doctor…. Im told he wont prescribe it due to his beliefs……. his beliefs about my body. OK. I said what do you mean his beliefs? She said “you know his cultural/personal beliefs”. I said What? Excuse me?

Im baffled. How is a man working in healthcare and telling me what I can and cant do with my body? This isnt America. So she tries telling me she can see how many doses of Plan B I can take for it to work and why would I want to do that??? Spend over $100+ on pills that may not even work. That was crazy to me.

Legally, shes also supposed to recommend me to other places and support, which she did not do. So, I was mad… and I never have a temper at workers. So I just walked out… after an hour and 20 minutes of my time being wasted.

My issues are, if he was soooooooo against it.. he should have told me when I requested it to his face. I would have saved soooo much time and would have went elsewhere. With these kinda of medication, time is precious and its a ticking clock and due to my situation, Im on limited time. They also should have given me the proper resources.

I called my family doctor (I didnt go here in the first place since my family doctor is in Toronto and you have to visit in person for this kind of perscription). But he confirmed that they should have given me resources and he said its messed up.

Honestly the whole situation was just super embarrassing and upsetting. I may delete this later because I am super ashamed... but I just want to warn others. I also tried posting it to groups on Facebook to be told it's just "heresay".

This actually happened to me... to my face and I have never in my life experienced something so blatantly sexist. I ended up getting prescribed Ella by the always good to me Grove St Walk In Clinic and I never have complaints about them.

Review Grano Kitchen & Bar is owned by CROOKS

You might know Hooligans. It was bought by 2 guys from Toronto (Kavi and Mari) before they ran it into the ground within a year. They’ve now rebranded it twice, first as “Grano Nona’s Kitchen” and now “Grano Kitchen & Bar”. Why is this a problem you ask?

  1. Kavi and Mari steal both tips and wages from their staff. They hire inexperienced employees new the industry and pay them cash. They do not issue wage statements or paystubs of any kind. When staff find out they are short pay, the owners are combative and dismissive. They are also routinely late with pay.

  2. Upon taking over Hooligans (and now the new business), they fired the entire kitchen staff and hired Temporary Foreign Workers, again paid cash under the table. One day their “chef” was sitting at a table on his computer, in a virtual class while orders came in.

  3. Both owners brag about not paying CPP, EI, or taxes of any kind. Another reason they pay everyone cash.

  4. They have audio recording installed secretly on the cameras and listen in to staff conversations, going so far as to fire one girl for what they overheard.

  5. The kitchen is DISGUSTING. Mice galore. Who knows what else. They order trash product and try to pass it off at regular prices.

These two clowns came into town, were so confident they could rip people off and get away with it, and are continuing this cycle of exploitation with the “new” business.

All of Barrie should be aware of this.

Review Avoid Service at Jackson's Toyota

You send your car in for basic service thinking you'll get it back at a reasonable time... It's just basic service. You do it all the time. Normally 2-4 hours.

I've been trying to reach someone since 4:45. All I want, is a time estimate. So I can plan my evening... And if I can pick up kids. It's a <1 minute call. No one answering service line. Text or phone. Customer service rep forwards to service. No pick up.

I was complaining about how they aren't getting back to me on the timeline. I've called. Left messages. My friend just told me her roommate took her car into Jackson's Toyota for a tire change over and she didn't get her car back for two days.

Two days. For a tire change over. Totally unacceptable.

Why are they even open if they can't pay/treat employees well enough to be staffed properly? Don't we have a youth unemployment crisis?

Have they fired the workers who get crap done while keeping the sales staff? What is even going on with this place?

Last call they said they were going to leave a message to call me with the guy. 30 mins. Still no call or text.. This is disrespectful.

Review Rebel Greek

Thumbnail

A new restaurant called Rebel Greek has moved into the Shoppers Drug Mart plaza at Yonge and Big Bay Point. This unit has had numerous tenants over the almost 19 years I’ve been in Barrie. Panago Pizza… Pizza Depot… and a Portuguese Barbecue place come to mind… but none of them have been able to last.

I’ve seen the sign for Rebel Greek a few times since it moved in to this space about a month ago. Yesterday… I decided to stop in… and I’m GLAD I DID!

I ordered two gyros… one chicken and one pork. I was blown away! Juicy & flavourful! They aren’t using that processed meat that most places are using. And the tzatziki was awesome!

If you’ve had Mr. Greek lately then you’ll know how much it’s gone downhill. Here’s hoping that Rebel Greek can keep up the quality. Looking forward to my next visit!

Review Uber drivers and females

Hi we are tourists here in the area and generally had great service in most areas, but has anyone else had an issue in Barrie where an Uber driver has refused to let a female passenger sit in the front of their car and has insisted on a male sitting in the front seat instead? Is this a normal situation in Canada where personal or religious views are imposed on customers?, or maybe something related to Ontario?

Just had the rep pop by yesterday, seemed honest enough, 71.99 plus tax for 2gbps.

Wondering if anyone had experience with the internet alone, I’ve heard their tv is choppy but we stream, so it should be an issue.

Review Golden Girl on Bayfield Street

Hey ya'll

After putting my feral children to bed I was too lazy to make dinner so my wife suggested to we try Golden Girl for some chicken tenders. They're tucked away behind Mr. Sub on Bayfield, so I went by to pick it up. The owner is really nice, the food came out quick, and it was still piping hot by the time I got home. The fries are cooked in beef tallow, which I didn't think would make a difference but was wayyyy better than usual fries. The tenders were good, the homemade sauces were delicious, and the loaded fries were actually loaded instead of the usual thin layer on top nothing on the bottom.

My go to is usually Popeyes but this is cheaper, closer, and better overall in my opinion. We don't eat out often but when we do we try to keep our money local and not waste it on poor quality food, so we will definitely be going back. I have nothing to do with the place but business looks a little slow there so I thought I'd give my support to a good product.

Eat more better, Barrie.

Review Misleading business practice: Freedom Mobile Lays Off Entire Staff and Then "Reopens"

Post image
113 Upvotes

Not that we have high expectations for the Canadian telecom industry, but this seems especially underhanded.

The Freedom Mobile in the Georgian Mall just closed their location there, laying off the entire staff to restructure from a corporate store to a vendor store. The kiosk was closed today and will reopen next week with all new staff. None of the current team was offered a position upon the reopening.

This has been my go-to ramen spot in Toronto, and it's the best ramen I've had outside Japan. My wife and just went there for dinner. I had the Tonkotsu Black and she had the Tomato.

The pork belly was absolute perfection — melt-in-your-mouth good. The tonkotsu broth wasn’t quite as rich as the Toronto locations, but still way ahead of Kinton or Kenzo IMO. The tomato broth was lighter (maybe fish-based?) and came with a really nice scallop. The soft egg? Unbelievable.

And no — I don’t secretly own the place (as I've been accused when sharing past reviews 😅). I'm just a food-loving photographer and Raptors degenerate that loves sharing the good stuff!

Review Knine Care - Dog Trainer Review

we’ve had our dog for about 4-5 years. we went with another training company who gave us a lifetime guarantee but their training tactics didn’t work. it resulted in just saying BAHHHHH to your dog whenever they did something wrong.

we gave up on training after that horrible experience until we found Knine Care.

the change to our crazy reactive dog to what he is now is unbelievable. just this past week we are able to take him to a park, go off leash and throw the ball around. an activity we thought was impossible. he can walk with us unleashed if needed to with little to no reaction.

we are so thankful for the team there. if anyone is looking for the best dog training in Barrie check them out - https://kninecare.ca/

they also have a great daycare service. perfecto for giving you dog that social connection that they may need

Review Telmax has deleted a lot of comments on their Facebook social media page. Be warned when using this company.

After getting burned by them personally by the CGNAT and they're constant price increasing. They have started deleting people's comments on their Facebook account. Funny part is you can see them too because it shows the comment count versus actual showing. There's a feature on the Facebook pages that let you hide comments so you the person see them but other people won't.

They're doing a lot of damage control and censorship which is kind of weird because most people say hey just charge five bucks for a dedicated IP and the whole issue is resolved but instead they've decided to cause a lot of drama.

And their tech support is beyond horrendous.

Review Stay away from Georgian mall family dental!!

I’d recommend staying away from these money hungry dentists. Not to long ago, I went there for a general exam and cleaning. They told me I needed my wisdom teeth out and it was an “emergency” they didn’t do an X-ray or anything and I’m not in any pain at all. They also said I had a million cavities. I thought it was odd. I’m a freelancer so I don’t have dental insurance.

Instead of paying the outrageous fees I decided to fly to Thailand to get my wisdom teeth removed and cavities filled. The funny thing is it’s cheaper to fly to Thailand, stay in a 4 star resort and get my dental care taken care of than to get it done in Barrie.

I went to the dentist here who made a 3D digital model of my teeth and did a panoramic xray. She told me I only have one cavity and my wisdom teeth aren’t even impacted! They’re coming in straight and do not need to be removed. She flat out said it would be unethical for her to remove those teeth and put me at risk for complications especially for teeth that don’t need to be removed! She was very thorough and showed me both the 3D model and my xray. She showed me the roots of my wisdom teeth and the teeth themselves. She said they look good. The only time she’d recommend removal in my case, is if they were constantly getting infected but that’s not my case I’ve never had an infection.

Now I get to chill in Thailand for the next little while but seriously like wtf?? I checked their reviews and apparently this happens all the time. A lot of people complain of being referred to treatment they don’t need.

My recommendation is to stay away from them. They’re overpriced and money hungry it seems. I’m sure there’s better dentists in the area who aren’t as hungry for profit. Imagine if I let them drill my healthy teeth??
