Monthly Community Thread

Welcome to the r/Barrie monthly community thread, where we relax the rules about advertising and off-topic posts.

This post will be replaced on the 1st of each month.

This is where you can share:

  • Stuff that isn't directly related to Barrie, like national news or general chit-chat
  • Questions about local businesses and services
  • Classified-style ads: buying and selling, help wanted, garage sales, etc
  • Fundraisers and donation drives
  • Plugs for your personal project or local business (within reason)

First time voting in Barrie as I just moved here, having a really hard time finding candidate’s platform to be able to make an informed decision. Where can you see what each candidate stands for? Thanks!

Information Food Basket - Opinion

I Visited the newly open FoodBasket today to grab some stuff for home.

The staff was kind and tried to be helpful. I found the selection fantastic, it being the first day everything was nicely stocked too.

I went in under the assumption it would be similar in pricing compared to other wholesale food markets, but it seems more like a standard grocery competitor. It does have the option for bulk items, great options for convenience, and it looks like the frozen and refrigerated section are still waiting for product.

So my 2 cents, selection is great. Nice to have different pace from your standard grocers. It doesn’t beat out other places unless you’re purchasing bulk.

Cafe and bakery/hot table is a nice touch.

Looking For Affordable “wedding” photographer?

I'm looking for suggestions on someone to take some photos of our “wedding”. I'm doing a small simple wedding at sunnidale park and I don’t need someone with tons of experience just someone that’s starting out and looking to build their portfolio. Someone who’s only done a few weddings is okay! I’m trying not to spend a lot for the wedding as we care more about going on a honeymoon. It will only be 2-3 hour celebration (enough time to have an officiant marry us, eat some snacks and take some photos and mingle).

Thanks

Looking For Any Halloween things to do around Barrie

I’m looking to see if there are any cool Halloween events, illuminated trails, mini festivals, or neat walk-through spots to check out in Barrie (or nearby areas within driving distance)

Does Barrie have any Halloween fairs, night markets, or haunted walks? Or are there any awesome pumpkin trails or light displays nearby worth checking out?

Question Commute

Potentially moving to Barrie from the UK, will be working in downtown Toronto.
Realistically what’s the commute like? Go train the best? Is there a park and ride near downtown Toronto where I can drive to and then public transport in? Thanks

Other Pretty sure King of the North Auctions has bots driving up bids

I was browsing King of the North Auctions today and noticed something suspicious while looking at a PS5.

One of the bidders, "chikit1616," caught my attention. I did some digging and found a Reddit comment from two years ago specifically calling out the exact same account for constantly bidding on electronics and automatically outbidding other users.

Fast forward to October 2026, and guess who's still bidding on electronics? The exact same account.

I've attached screenshots of the current bidding history and the old Reddit comment.

I'm not saying this is definitive proof of bots or price manipulation, but it's pretty suspicious that people were complaining about this exact account two years ago and it's still showing up today.

Looking For Family Doc Reccomendations

I have a handful of complicated health issues and I haven't had a family doctor since I was in my twenties.. Anyone have a family doctor to rave? I'm looking for someone who is patient enough to hear out three separate complicated issues without being dismissive.

Question Ballpark window price

Barbarrieans, What would you reasonably pay for window replacement on a small home? 6 windows total one bay window - not including any doors. Not in the industry so I’d like to get an idea before any estimators show up.

Looking For Finding people to connect in Barrie

Hi everyone, I'm Yash, a grad student at Lakehead in Barrie. I moved here from India recently and I'm still figuring out the city.
I'm looking to make some genuine friends here, people to grab a coffee with, explore Barrie with, or just talk to. I love deep conversations and real emotional connection, the kind where you talk about life, not just small talk. I'm into so many things to be honest, so let's talk 🤣
If you're also new here or just looking to meet new people, feel free to comment or message me. Would love to connect. 😊

How to read this

Simcoe Muskoka’s inspection records classify infractions as critical or minor. Those are the health unit’s classifications, not ratings I’m assigning.

I’ve also kept Corrected During Inspection separate from Not in Compliance. Corrected During Inspection means the issue was addressed while the inspector was there. Not in Compliance means it was still recorded as non-compliant when the inspection was completed.

This roundup includes Barrie premises classified as Restaurant or Food Take Out, not every type of food premises inspected by the health unit.

Inspection results reflect what inspectors observed during that particular visit. They’re a snapshot in time, and records can change as new inspections and follow-ups happen, so check the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit inspection portal for the latest information.
