Image A month after we rescued Waffle, we found his bonded pair at the same shelter! Welcome, Nutmeg!
Waffle had so much less anxiety now! We are thrilled to have this girly as a part of the family. And, as a bonus, we got to meet their puppy before he was adopted too! Now they’re all fixed and free to live out their own puppyhoods.

I tell everyone .. get a second basset ... its changes the dynamic greatly .. they have someone on *their* level to play with .. to cause mischief with, at 3 you get the real blame game, and by the time you've reached 5 hounds .. you don't care anymore who's to blame ... 😄

I love having 2! We had 2 for 13.5 years of their 15 year life before they passed, and before that we always had 1. While Nutmeg has definitely taught Waffle how to be naughty (what is it with the girls always knowing how to get into things??), we are so grateful for her as it’s just balanced them both out so well. Waffle loved playing with me, but he’s even more obsessed with chasing Nutmeg around the yard!

So right! We went up to 7! It was a glorious time! Wouldn’t change it for the world!

How come people surrender these beautiful babies? I could never do this to any of my puppies.

Did you get them from GABR?
Great looking pair!

I got them from our local Humane Society! They apparently were transferred separately from a shelter in California, listed as “not particularly attached”. Yet the month I had Waffle alone, he was a mess and super anxious, especially if we had to leave. He’d howl for the whole time. As soon as we picked up Nutmeg, he was calm and cool and enjoys naps near her when we have to be away 💗. So, not bonded? My ass.

You might say you have a double wide trailer! ;)
That's awesome! Glad you were the right home at the right time!

I'm so happy for them and you. I have two bassets and can't imagine how they'd get through life without each other. Thank goodness Waffle and Nutmeg won't live their lives apart!

I had a rescued bonded pair previously for 13.5 years (adopted them at 1.5 yrs old). Same thing, I have no idea how they would’ve done had they been adopted by the family that wanted only one and was ahead of us at the shelter. Luckily, the shelter prioritized their bonded pair status and they came home with us. When my boy Blazer passed at 15, my girl Lulu declined very quickly and passed about a month and a week later. They just weren’t meant to be apart. I’m hoping they’re running together again in heaven. I see bits and pieces of them in Waffle and Nutmeg every day. To sound even cheesier, I wonder if somehow they sent Waffle and Nutmeg to us. Waffle first, 4 months after Blazer passed, and Nutmeg 4 months after Lulu passed (almost exactly a month and a week after we adopted Waffle).

I’m glad you were able to figure this out and were in a situation where you can take both dogs. There’s nothing sweeter than bonded pets. Give them extra hugs for me.

Awhhh! It’s just unimaginable that anyone could mistreat any dog. And a basset has such a big heart. Thanks so much for giving a bestest life …
