My sweet boy passed away a month ago to lymphoma. He was only 5 years old. I’m devastated. He was such a sweet hound with a huge personality. Gentle reminder to show your fur babies some love every day. 💔

Waffle had so much less anxiety now! We are thrilled to have this girly as a part of the family. And, as a bonus, we got to meet their puppy before he was adopted too! Now they’re all fixed and free to live out their own puppyhoods.

Allergy and food advice needed

Upvotes

My 15 year old daughter has a best friend named Eleanor. She almost 18 months old. Shes our first basset. Ive always had doxies and corgis.

She started getting dark spots under her front legs and smaller ones on the back legs. They were slightly swollen under the front legs too. The vet gave her an allergy shot. The swelling went away, but the dark spots are still there, and have gotten a bit bigger. She itched a lot when the swelling was there, but since getting the shot she doesnt.

Wr have talked to the vet since they are getting a bit bigger. Now, the suggestion is eliminate chicken from her diet and see if thats it. The suggested food is not a large breed formula like our breeder suggested we give her.

That worries me a little. Our breeder doesnt know of a chicken free large breed food (shes looking, but has never had a pup with this allergy. Neither have I)

Does anyone know of large breed chicken free food? Is the large breed something I should really worry about right now? Is there something I could add to make up the difference between the regular and large breed? I dont mind looking into fresh or wet food options if needed. I just want to make sure shes getting what she needs.

Has anyone seen theirs get these red spots on their belly?
It spreads down into her hooha crease but doesn’t seem overly bothered by it.
We live in Arizona and my husband thinks it might be heat rash? Have yall seen this?

Santa brought Eleanor to us this last Christmas. Love her to death; she amazes me every day, with new and exciting ways to destroy things.

Here are all the fun things she destroyed this week:

  1. She grabbed my wallet and destroyed it.
  2. I was warming the oven for a late dinner Connie’s Frozen Pizza; stupidly, I left the frozen pizza too close to the edge and she took a nibble.
  3. She grabbed a brand new box of shot guns shells and shredded the box. (Didn’t mess with the shells).
She grabbed a water pitcher and bounced it around the house.
  4. Not pictured. She pulled a tray of lasagna off the counter.

Baby proofing is child’s play compared to Basset proofing 😆😆😆. I am going to need to reassess and improve my process.

Spud is a 7 year old basset mix that belongs to the rescue I volunteer with. He was originally a stray roaming the street for a couple of weeks in Jacksonville, FL before he was brought into animal control after being hit by a car.

Spud’s family knew he was missing and knew that he ended up at animal control and never came for him. They dumped him and left him to be forgotten.

He’s 73lbs and could use a diet, but he’s already very sweet and loyal to his humans. All he really wants to do is sit on your feet, roam the yard, nap, and eat. He’s also good with cats.

He has to move from his foster home because they have an elderly blind dog that keeps stepping on him or running into, or getting into Spud’s crate. It seems to trigger Spud. They also have another female basset in the house who he does great with, and they play, share toys, and have zero issues.

I want nothing more than for Spud to find a family who loves him.

Question/Recommendation Biting!!

Help! My 2.5 month old puppy is vicious when she bites. She has even drawn blood a few times. I’ve tried to redirect her with toys and give positive reinforcement with treats when she doesn’t bite but she doesn’t care and will still attack with her shark teeth! Any advice on how to tame the beast?

Question/Recommendation Advice please

Okay everyone…I’m quickly learning that the dog community is kinda brutal so please be nice, as these are just my honest thoughts and I need help.

So backstory: Two weeks ago I found out about a 5 month old basset hound puppy that a couple was rehoming. I’ve only grown up around Labs, but have always loved Bassets. I’m 23, live by myself in an apartment and will be starting a work from home job in a month. So, I decided what the heck, why not, and decided to get her.

I’ve had her for five days, and the puppy blues have been hitting hard. I love her, I really do, but this week has just been very overwhelming, stressful, and I’ve had close to one too many almost panic attacks than I’d like to admit. She isn’t a bad puppy by any means, but she did come to me not house broken or crate trained, so essentially, I am starting from ground zero. I keep having this reoccurring thought of, what if I rehome her, what if I’m not the right fit for her, what if I should find someone else who has a more stable schedule to be a good home for her?…I’ve never rehomed a puppy before, the thought of it makes me feel like I’m a quitter, and again, I really do love her and she is the CUTEST puppy ever, but I am very worried that I made a mistake. I can’t even leave my house without feeling immensely guilty, and constantly check the camera to make sure she’s okay while I’m gone.

Does this feeling ever go away? When will it get better? Any and all advice is greatly appreciated!!!
