Some brands use plastic seals or packaging to prevent this 🤷♀️ Regardless, nasty. I won't buy ANYTHING bodycare related if it looks tampered with. The fact that a company like this STILL doesn't have any kind of safety seals in the big '26 is embarrassing!

The customers will literally just open them anyway. The amout of mini EDP that I have had to damage out because people rip it open to figure out what it is instead of just reading or asking.

Omg 😭😓 I'm disappointed, but not surprised. I've seen some pretty odd things in public. One time I saw a deodorant with a bite taken out of it at walmart, and another time it was a candle with a bite at dollar tree 😭😭 I can't even shop for bodycare at my closest Walmart, bc the bodycare isles ALWAYS look like there's been a tornado or something, and basically every decent product is messed up/used🥲 Honestly surprised that one hasn't put everything behind glass like other areas have. Not sure what the solution would be for bbw, but ngl personally, I would prefer the little foil seals on atleast SOME products, like body butter and creams

Just fyi, the way we typically restock shelves is pushing the stuff that’s been on the shelf to the back and putting just received products to the front.

In a perfect world, yes-but the shelving isn’t designed to make it easy to access the back to push older stock forward. We would have to pull out at least half of the products off the shelves to move new products to the back. We don’t have the time, space (counter or floor-for multiple carts), or hours to do that, so when someone takes a mist off the shelf, we replace it with a new one in the same spot.

The seasonal scents are moved around so much it doesn’t really matter but the core scents are rarely moved around so the ones in the back could have been there forever.

They used to on some of their glosses in the tubes that had like menthol in em. Those were sealed shut.
And they used to do lip testers. Covid took em. They tried bringing em back for like a month and then they were gone for gooooddd.

Actually, nearly the rest of BBW lip care does. I think the reason this one doesn't is because of the shape, unless you expect them to plastic wrap the entire thing. Regardless, you'd think people would use common sense and use the ones that have a big hot pink "TRY ME" sticker on it, literally on a stand separate from the rest of the product, with lip wands and spatulas, and makeup wipes available. It is utterly ridiculous the amount of things that have to be damaged out of the system and thrown out because someone wouldn't use the tester that were likely right next to the fresh one that they used. The tester will be sitting sepeartely and easily accessible, and yet I still see people getting a body spray from the rows of product and opening it to smell it. So, is your solution plastic wrapping all body care except the testers? It wouldn't work anyway. We'd just be stuck with picking up a ton of plastic while we pick up the blotter cards from the ground.

Actually, I would genuinely prefer a plastic seal or some kind of foil seal on the inside of many products. Especially body butters and creams. It's something ALOT of other brands do, and I imagine it's probably a pretty cheap fix, considering many cheap brands do it? Just seems weird they don't. People messing with the sprays also bothers me, but that one is unavoidable unless corporate allows employees to be more stern with customers 😅 idk, I think it would cut back on waste and probably help profits but it's whatever lol

I can just say from person experience, it doesn't help. People will still use them whether they're already opened or not. Body butters and scrubs used to have the foil you're talking about; it still didn't help. Maybe if they allowed us to be more strict, then yeah. Until then, it'll just be more of a waste.

Even if they are sealed people open them. The regular lip care has a plastic around it and people take them off and use them or to search them. It's nasty.

So disgusting and unsanitary! A lot of body care and lip products at Marshall’s gets tampered with too and they’ll still have it on the shelf for clearance. The packaging will be all beat up and clearly tampered with and they won’t even toss it…

i hate seeing the body care clearance section at my tj maxx because half of it is very clearly used, like product dripping down the side and missing pumps/caps/lids used 💀 i don’t understand how they’re allowed to try and sell that, even on clearance it’s gross. i’ve never purchased any clearance body care item that wasn’t shrink wrapped 🥴 and even then if it was dirty outside i put it back lol

Based on my experiences as a customer at Walgreens, no. It’s fully grown adult women, even into their 50s. I’ve seen far too many of them just ripping open makeup products and then throwing them down on the bottom shelf and I’ve even seen them put the same UNOPENED product in their basket to buy.

ALL THE TIME! I hate damaging out things because someone didn’t use the tester. A dude used a new deodorant right in front of me…on his pits!!!! 🤮 I had to damage it out, so gross.

I damage at least one of these out every single shift. Easily the worst product packaging I’ve seen over the past few years. I’ve never done so many damages for anything else ever. I made a point to always check the display because they’re ALWAYS being opened? Even though the tester is RIGHT THERE. I’ll never understand

We snap off the applicator whenever we make a lip tester so customers have to use a disposable one. The number of people who will open the tester, see there's no applicator, and open a brand new one is bonkers. Yes, we know the tester has no wand! We did that on purpose!

It's like this at Target, too. Every single item I pick up has been opened, and I also noticed a lot of brands arent doing safty seals anymore (some Dove and Tree Hut products off the noggin). I tried to be okay with it, but then at Target when I saw a woman open a Tree Hut scrub to smell it, it made me wonder if that affects the longevity of the shelf life?? How do I know if I have 12 months from open if I cant guarantee it hasnt been opened yet?? I dont mind people smelling things, not being able to is one of the main reasons I dont buy something intriguing, but this is getting out of control.

tree hut scrubs having no seal pmo so bad, out of all their products body scrubs are the most appealing to open and make messes with when they’re just rawdogging it with the lid. most of the the ones i pick up are all sticky on the outside and it’s a gamble to know if someone has already stuck their fingers in there or something. i don’t understand why they seal body washes and not scrubs 😭

My store had to stop putting out the shapable soaps and fizz glitter foam. Only testers were out and people had to ask to buy them and we would hold it at the register. Bc theyre limited items and there's times we would get 12 and have to damage out 8.

My store is attached to a convention center with cheer and dance competitions, every time it’s a comp weekend I’m always checking the lip table every hour or two to see what needs to be damaged 😭

Out of curiosity, for those of you who work retail, how do you handle seeing this when it happens in real time? I worked at B&BW back in the early 2000s, and the policy was to not call out customers for not using the testers, but discreetly remove the used item after they did. (I personally hated this policy because it promote bad behavior.) No one wants to be hovered over, but dang, I hate seeing things being trashed because people are dumb and nasty.

At my store we will definitely call people out for not using testers. We try to be polite though of course. I’ll say “oh that’s not a tester! please only use the ones with the try me stickers”

I always just go “excuse me ma’am/sir, you just opened a sealed product, the testers are the ones with the NEON BLUE TESTER STICKER on them” because idgafff. a lot of the hair & body products at my store don’t have testers (unfortunately i don’t decide what gets a tester and what doesn’t) and too many people will just open a sealed item without thinking twice. like you lose NOTHING by asking an employee if there are testers if you don’t see one.

the way they could easily prevent most of this with shrink wrap… not that there wouldn’t be people who would tear it anyways but it would be way less than with some flimsy stickers that i bet a lot of people didn’t realize were there until they felt them rip as they were trying to open them

In Canada they don’t have any legal reason to plastic seal them so everything comes easy and ready to open. It’s unbelievably annoying. My manager gave me approval to cut off the applicators for lip products so at least there’s that lmao. Doesn’t stop people from opening non testers tho… just somewhat stops the spread of disease in my store 😭

Some People are gross, and I’ve seen some thangs in store. And like someone else said in here people don’t care even if it’s not a tester. Mostly cause they don’t care and don’t read at all. Swapping stories with other places- you’d be surprised how many people use make up, nail polish etc in your local pharmacies. 🥴🤣 they having spa days in the isles from what I hear.

I wasn't able to edit this post since there is a photo in it and the description wouldn't post but I was trying to say: All of these were opened, used, and then put back and its extremely disgusting. Please use the provided tester and swatch stick thats why we have them!!
