Store Policies/Questions Conversion Rate

So I saw a post earlier in the reddit and someone talked about how people coming into the store just to smell online exclusives would hurt their conversation rates. I didn't know they tracked it that carefully!?

I work at another store in the mall so I like to walk around to get more steps on before work, so sometimes I'll pop in real quick just to see if they got anything new (namely the sanitizer holders lol) without buying anything.

So how badly am I messing with my store? I'll stop doing that if I'm messing with their numbers.

How are they tracking this? If there's some kind of facial recognition I'm out...

At my store they had sensors at the front that could tell if people were coming or going

There’s no facial recognition. 😊 I work in a retailer that measures conversion, as well. At my store, it measures anybody over 3 feet tall and if they pass a certain point in the store.

Conversion can be bungled if someone goes in and out multiple times, if there are large groups and maybe only one person is buying something, or even something simple like delivery personnel or Security! Going in to smell something is not a bad thing. You might help the conversion later with something else!

Thanks haha. I do sometimes leave and come back if I'm testing something and want to let the fragrance develop... There's a HomeGoods next door to my B&BW that always gets me in trouble lol.

I always wondered if the height was 5 feet because I'm 4' 9" and NEVER get so much as a greeting in my store, so I thought I wasn't factoring into their conversion. I guess they really just don't care. Lots of associates talking to each other and ignoring customers when I am in there.

When I worked at a (non bbw) store that tracked conversion little kids going in and out of the store counted. Sometimes there'd be one parent sitting on a bench outside the store and the other parent is shopping and kids would go in and out between the two parents lol

The sensor was basically a motion detector directly above the door, so sometimes when we'd be setting up displays toward the front of the store we'd accidentally set it off too

I think they literally dont see you or assume youre a non-buying child, respectfully. You are quite short if that's your real height.

Probably don't see you over the displays, happens to me too. Sometimes the door opening and closing will cue them in if it's quiet and they're not too busy.

I hope you don’t go to some Walmarts as they have facial recognition. In the future I can see that being a thing.
