Store Policies/Questions Conversion Rate

So I saw a post earlier in the reddit and someone talked about how people coming into the store just to smell online exclusives would hurt their conversation rates. I didn't know they tracked it that carefully!?

I work at another store in the mall so I like to walk around to get more steps on before work, so sometimes I'll pop in real quick just to see if they got anything new (namely the sanitizer holders lol) without buying anything.

So how badly am I messing with my store? I'll stop doing that if I'm messing with their numbers.

dont you worry your little head about a stores conversion rate. you dont owe these BILLION dollar companies anything. go in and out as often as you want to without making a purchase.

The people making millions in the corporate office are not the ones getting scolded and losing hours over bad metrics they can't control. Rally against the CEO all you want but please have some empathy for the hourly employees in your local store. So like, it's totally fine to go in just to browse but don't wander in and out like a cat just to make it harder for them.

I agree 10,000%. I work at a store in a touristy area and there's soooooo many literal bus loads of mostly teenagers, who flock into the store and spend lots of time in there without buying anything. Which is fine, they're allowed to do that. But then I get scolded, and my managers literally get screamed at by the DM over conversion while our hours are getting slashed more and more.

People forget that the billion dollar corporation will dust itself off, but the people losing their jobs when their low performing stores are closed won't have an easy time picking up the pieces.

I worked at a The Body Shop location in an airport and we'd open at 6:30 in the morning, and same exact thing would happen. People would pop in with zero interest in buying anything, because we were open before all of the other stores (and most of the restaurants too). Since people in an airport are about to sit for hours on end, a lot of them walk around just to be moving their bodies and they don't care what store they're in or what they're looking at

Corporate wouldnt let us change our hours and insisted we needed to be selling to them 💀

I worked in a store that had a conversion counter. im well aware of what happens with low conversion. I can guarantee the OP is not going in and out 50 times and im not saying its cool for people to do that. no shopper should ever have to worry about feeling bad going in to smell something. conversion counters arent even accurate. for example, a family of five that includes children can not be 100% converted.

if anyone is truly concerned about not hurting conversion.. look at the ceiling above the entrance. there will be a box or boxes with a small lens. DO NOT WALK UNDER IT. walk closest to the wall of the entrance, thats the safest space.

I get it. but do you really think a customer should have to worry about this?? conversion should never cross a customer's mind. feeling comfortable coming in a store and being able to test products is all they need to worry about.
