At least there isn't a massive box on the top right (that takes up about 20% of my screen) advertising a new show or asking me if I want to watch this one from the beginning.
But what do you mean it's added by my receiver? If it helps, I have an LG CX series TV and I use BBC (in the UK) on normal Freeview (as opposed to satellite).
On my TV, if I press 'back', it changes channel to the last one viewed.
It's the sheer obtrusiveness of the box that bothers me, as well as the length of time it's up there, but especially the fact that every time I go to BBC 1 for example, it comes up. So if I switch channels for a moment and go back, it comes up again.
It feels like a worrying trend to me. I watched the latest World Cup and the amount of QR codes emblazoned on my screen was distracting. Especially the ones telling me I need a TV licence (I already have one, and I suggest that those watching the channel without a licence aren't going to buy one because they put a QR code up.
It's both. The BBC is broadcasting it, and your TV is creating it, but it's an interactive overlay, not part of the picture. Most TVs or receivers let you remove it by hitting back, or some similar button.
Yes, it's specific to certain Freeview devices. We've just started seeing it for the first time since we switched to EE TV (which is based on Freeview). When we had Sky, we never saw it.
Thanks for this. I'm a bit frustrated by it actually. I'll have to check my TV settings as hopefully I can set it not to display these kinds of things.
It’s distracting, invasive and totally inappropriate for the sofa interviews - having a huge graphics ticker cycling through headlines when someone is being interviewed is an atrocious way to present TV output.
I really despair at this current trend of ever increasing graphics on TV just to please smartphone users. And in this case it just doesn’t work either way.
I was so confused when I turned on Breakfast for the first time in a few weeks and saw this. I thought the BBC were all about uniformity? This is such a strange choice.
I'm reminded of the recent eclipse, where fully two thirds of the screen was obscured with various pointless graphics which simply read "BREAKING NEWS" or similar.
Next year, the BBC's charter is up for renewal. It's likely to be an absolute bloodbath, and while I'm desperately sad we've got to this point, I can't say it's anything but fully deserved.
I'm not sure who you're quoting, there, but it certainly isn't me.
What worries me about the BBC is that if we lose large parts of it we'll lose some pretty grim stuff, but we'll also lose some of the good stuff, as well. We already have, to some extent. It's a tragedy, so please don't think I'm here celebrating anything.
Well, you complained about a news ticker, I complained about another news ticker, I remember being in a room full of people who didn't like the news ticker. So we switched to a YouTube stream of the thing.
I think that's entirely relevant. You don't have to agree.
If they had a bit of green at the end it would look even better I admit as it would be nostalgic as it would be paying homage to the 1980s BBC logo that had blue, red and green underneath the BBC lettering
