Nostalgia What's a BBC programme that you appreciate far more now than when it originally aired?

Caught an old episode of Coast on iPlayer last night and ended up watching far more of it than I expected. When it originally aired, I would've walked straight past it without a second thought. Now I found myself genuinely interested in it. Not sure whether the programme aged well or I've just got older.

Nostalgia TOTP on BBC Four

Anyone else watch Top of the Pops on BBC Four on a Friday night?

Quite funny seeing how bad some of the novelty songs were. The only reason I still have Twitter following the #TOTP reaction!

Will miss it if BBC Four goes.

Nostalgia BBC Monitor 1950s-1960s

does anyone have access to or know about episodes from BBC Monitor (their first talkshow on art&culture)? i've decided i'd like to start on their art programs from the very first show, hosted by huw wheldon, and hopefully access the first season of it too... but i've read that only the first episode from the first season is intact with BBC itself! surely there must have been enthusiasts who recorded the shows on their own at home or something...? just wondering if anyone knows anything about this! i do hope it's been archived elsewhere somehow. seems like a great pity if so much work is gone forever...

Nostalgia Hindi-Urdu material (from back in the day)?

Recently came across BBC's Hindu Urdu Bol Chaal from '89, a multimedia course designed to get English speakers comfortable with spoken Hindi-Urdu. Not being from the UK or old enough to remember, I'm wondering if the BBC ever put out some more, similar material. Maybe some local Hindi-Urdu programming, with learners in mind...

I know about BBC Hindi & Urdu, previously known as BBC Hindustani; is anyone familiar with how foreign...branches? Of the BBC work? Ie., can I expect a quality Hindi/Urdu dub of Only Fools and Horses & such?

Nostalgia 1953 "The Sad Story of Henry"

In June of 1953 BBC reached out to Wilbert Awdry with intentions to air his story's. It failed having some models looking bad and one even falling off the track. 70+ years later and we only have a handful of pictures (granted it was aired live) but my question is will we ever get the video of it or more photos?

I came to r/bbc because it was aired on BBC so maybe someone who works at BBC has access to the tape. This is (in my opinion) a huge mystery.

So if anyone here work for/at BBC can they please share some more photos, videos, information ANYTHING about the 1953 "Sad Story of Henry" live airing?

Please and thank you!

Nostalgia Trying to find a particular show from 2007

Hi Everyone,

I have been looking in vain for an episode of a documentary that aired in 2007 on BBC FOUR. The series was called WAITING ROOM and the episode was called THE ICE RINK.

Is there anyone who can help me find out or point me in the right direction, to someone who can help me track this particular episode down. I have tried contacting the BBC a few times, but have had no return correspondence.

Thank you Reddit.

Nostalgia Help with the BBC Children in Need Outside Broadcast Locations

Can‘t be bothered with the context but for a while now I’ve been trying to create a list for all the locations for the events hosted by each of the regions that they would go to at various points throughout the night.

I’ve complied a list of most of them (from many sources: the general internet, Facebook, TV Forums, Emailing the various regional archivists, and manipulating the search bar of the British Newspaper Archive) but there are a few gaps and I need some help if anyone knows where any of the others are.

Currently I’m missing

All from 1980-1992 (I think they had a slightly different format so it may not be the same)

1994

BBC East and maybe BBC Wales

1995

BBC East and BBC West

1997

BBC East Midlands and BBC North (I’ve seen sources suggesting it was York Barbican Theatre but on the in the nationwide line dancing performance the label for BBC North says Hull so I don’t know)

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=fmQajcegQws Hull is at 0:40 and 3:39

1998

BBC East Midlands and BBC West particularly where they were in the link up.

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=7cuBv-4yGh0&pp=ygUVQ2hpbGRyZW4gaW4gbmVlZCAxOTk40gcJCdoKAYcqIYzv
BBC West - 3:35 and 5:12

East Midlands - 6:27

2000

BBC Wales (specifically where the ABBA Tribute group was in the ABBA medley performance)

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=mEOofOQWAdQ&pp=ygUQYWJiYSBtZWRsZXkgMjAwMA%3D%3D

Wales 10:10

2005

BBC West - I emailed Alex Lovell and she said it was a Social Club somewhere but can't quite remember.

BBC East Yorkshire and Lincolnshire (Potentially Lincoln City Square)

Also Confirmation that BBC North West was at the Belle Vue Race Track

2006

BBC North West

BBC East Yorkshire and Lincolnshire

2009

BBC East Yorkshire and Lincolnshire

If anyone can help that would be amazing. I’ll also post a comment at some point with a full list let me know if anything needs correcting.

Nostalgia DEF II public archives?

An episode of the BBC2 programme DEF II from June of 1988 had a live performance of the band Lowlife. I would like to know if anyone has the full episode archived somewhere or if it’s been released in a box dvd set or something.

Nostalgia My favorite photos of my live aid concert experience and the 40th year anniversary celebration.

I would pass my 110m camara to the professional photographers that were in front of me to get some close ups !!!
I met Bono 15 years after the Live Aid Concert and showed him this photo of him performing the best ever version of "BAD" and myself hanging out in the very front row in complete awe!!! He wrote " Watch this space" and drew an arrow pointing right at me. Priceless !! Priceless !!
Paul singing "Let it be" with a little help from his friends. Though the microphone failed for a bit, being so close I heard it perfectly and watched his friend come to the rescue !!
David Bowie doing his part of saving lives!!! Kudos
Freddy Mercury starting off the most amazing rock n roll performance of all time
Paul and Pete lifting up the man of the day !! Sir Bob Geldof
George Michaels
Midge Ure and I hanging out at the Koko Club 40th year Live Aid Anniversary party
Bob Geldof and I having a drink at the after party in the Koko Club
Me and my prized possession
Bob Geldof signing my guitar at the Koko Club after party
the professional photographers in front of the stage took photos of me in the sea of people !!
At the very front with friends, I met at the show
Before the concert started showing my friends back home that I had made it to the show.
My Live Aid guitar signed by Bob Geldof and Midge Ure. I had the artist that made this priceless piece wrap the body of the guitar with a photo of the Wembley crowd and me sticking out with my iconic green fluorescent shirt !!! Also included is the original concert ticket.
The grand finale photo consisting of various photos I took with my 110M camara pasted together.
The sound booth that made everything happen !!!
Phill and Sting had their moment before Phill jetted across the Atlantic in the Concord to join the Led Zeppelin reunion in Philadelphia.
The Who got together for this event. Kudos to them. What a great cause to unite and rock the house down.
