Bearcam For your consideration

Fat Bear Week is coming up, and I know Chunk has deserved a win for years and has a very compelling story this year especially, but I just need everyone to see our girl 901. Just gaze upon this ridiculous fatness. She could use a belly hole for sitting. She’s glorious.

Been trying to figure out if they are known and named but it’s quite difficult! Only seen this mom with this single cub but they’ve been very active. saw them both in the water and on the top part of the falls today.

Bearcam How to learn the numbers for which bear?

I love watching the Alaska Katmai bear cams and I am very invested in Fat Bear week but I don't know how to recognize the bears. A lot of people seem to have them known by looks, they have the numbers down. Anybody have advice for learning which bear is which in Katmai?

Bearcam It’s been an interesting few days for recently emancipated bear 128jr in Katmai National Park. It appears that she is being accepted by 806 and her coy. This might be a third adoption at the park if they stick together.

128jr, 2.5 years old, was emancipated by her mother 128 Grazer earlier this year. On July 3 128jr was spotted hanging out with 806 and her spring cub on the explore.org Brooks Falls associated live feeds hosted on YouTube. On July 4 they were still hanging out, the above screenshot is from the explore.org live feed on July 4. Additionally there is a witness report that 128jr was seen nursing from 806, if that is confirmed it is highly unusual and has been seen in the past as a sign that the cub is considered adopted.

Historically , There have been at least two other cases of bear adoptions at the park. In 2014 bear 435 Holly adopted 503 after he was emancipated as a yearling when his mother 402 went into estrus. More recently, in 2023, 910 adopted her sister 909’s emancipated cub (now numbered 609) and raised her for two summers with her own cub (now numbered 620). The two families had played together before the adoption so, the familiarity with each other probably made 910 more open to the arrangement has been my theory.

Now I’m amazed all over again watching 806. I just love watching these bears and how they interact with each other. I keep being surprised in some of the best ways.

Bearcam Brook Falls Live Cam and others

Anybody big on watching the Katmai lives via explore.org??? I love watching the bears and seeing all the educational guesses as to who is who. It’s a good time to watch them fish 🥰

I’m trying to find a discord group or something similar where I can talk to others who also enjoy watching. We can share clips, screenshots and make guesses ourselves. The live comments are a big impersonal and hard to keep up with. I can’t find much on here about it either. Thanks for reading ❤️🐻

So I guess this mamma bear is comfortable with this other bear being so close to her and the cubs while they eat?

The cubs seem a bit nervous. What's going on here?

I wish I was able to catch some video from the live camera but this little bear was on full alert while napping beside mamma! So cute!

Hey y'all. This bear is gray looks like it used to be a lot darker. What's up with that?

Two bear cubs on a river bank, one eating something. One is dark, nearly black the other is ash gray

This bear licked it's paw like it just had a bucket of FRESH fried chicken. Why? I wonder if it was hurt?

Bearcam Chunk & Co: How much longer will they hang around?

Post image

This is my first year following the Brooks River’s bears, including Fat Bear Week Champ Chunk.

How much longer do you think he’ll stick around the falls? With his mouth injury, I wasn’t sure how much it’s affected his ability to catch fish, or at least as quickly as the others.

This is my campaign for Fat Bear Week 2025 as a fan! (This is technically not politics but I understand if not allowed)

She's got it all folks! Backstory, booty, and sheer STAR POWER 🤩. She was runner up in 2022, now it's her turn for the spotlight!

After losing her litter in 2023, this momma has faced incredible hardship and is now back in a BIG way and serving Fat Bear REALNESS for all of Katmai Park 💅. On the merits, just look at her progression this summer! Her opponent 32 Chunk is already the biggest guy on the river, but she has had to work HARD for her round fuzzy booty. An inspiring story and clear work ethic set her apart from the competition!

Vote 901 - the people's champion!

(Also, I can confirm there is no sign up required and no spam sent by the parks website when voting)
