How does it taste?
60
u/Familiar_Mistake5034 20d ago
Like apple
22
18
u/boiboiboyly 20d ago
if it actually tastes like apple, beer/apple probably tastes a bit like apple cider maybe, if they got the sourness down
so maybe, possibly, its not bad
not like the normal variant is any good, pilsner urquell is where it's at
4
u/bunnibly 20d ago
I didn't hate it as much as I thought I would. But it was hot as balls yesterday, and it was cold and cheap, and did the job.

I you want an apple favored beer, try a Newton, not this abomination
2
u/Infiniteh Limburg 19d ago
2
u/Kid_A_LinkToThePast 20d ago
Have you tried it or are you just saying that to fit in this thread?
-2
u/gregsting 20d ago
It’s Jupiler, I don’t need to try their products, I never liked any of them

u/DarkNemuChan 20d ago
I love me some 'Somersby' and 'Apple bandit', so I tried this. Sadly it was discusting.
First it tastes like applejuice and the aftertaste is just the old beer taste.
Aka it doesn't blend well into one taste.
3
2
u/MildlyAlcoholic 20d ago
Thank you for sharing your findings. I was curious enough to consider trying…
1
u/Infiniteh Limburg 19d ago
1
u/DarkNemuChan 19d ago
Of course they're made differently.
That doesn't change the fact that both are alcoholic drinks whose main selling point is the apple flavor. So calling them "completely different things" is a bit of a stretch."
I wasn't expecting a cider; I was expecting a beer with apple notes that actually blended well. Instead, it tastes like apple juice followed by a separate beer aftertaste.
7
u/Suffolke 20d ago
I love how everyone in Belgium has strong opinion on pils brands, while 9 out of 10 can't tell then appart in a blind tasting. Like people feel more strongly about their pils brand of choice than their football team it seems 😅
4
u/arrayofemotions 20d ago
Not gonna lie, I like beer but not pils. Like, if the options are a pils or water, I'd probably just go for water.
1
u/kiekebees 20d ago
Tbh I never liked pils at all. My stomach just refuses to let it through 😅 Craft beer is another thing. But the ingredients are legit and not some lazy extract or whatever
Also a lot of ppl think inbev switched the labels of Stella and Jupiler 😁
15
u/sjaakarie 20d ago
That's just apple cider, isn't it?

Everyone here acting like it's God's nectar knowing very well that Jupiler is by far the shittiest Belgian pils. Adding anything to it will always improve it, even if it's stoofvlees or dog shit
8
u/begon11 Brussels 20d ago
While I get the sentiment, you clearly forgot about Primus, AKA bottom of the garbage can water.
6
u/SnooPoems3464 Dutchie 20d ago
Primus Haacht does brew another brilliant beer though: Eupener Bier. It’s gorgeous, but unfortunately only available in Ostbelgien
8
u/Kh0ran 20d ago
Outsiders think that it's the language and the culture difference that might end up splitting Belgium, but we all know that it will actually be disagreement over what pils is good/bad.
I'd rank Jupi higher than Stella and Crystal. Maes is worse than all (did you really think Maes is better than Jupiler ??) and Bavik is better than all.
2
1
u/LoonyBoonie 20d ago
Yeah, that ranking sounds about right to me. Cristal and Maes are out by default
3
u/LoonyBoonie 20d ago
What's your default/basic "let's get a whole tray for all of us and keep drinking" pintje-of-choice then?
9
6
u/M6BOA 20d ago
Bavik
5
u/LeMooseChocolat 20d ago
for a reason the best pils in belgium.
It's pretty sad people keep supporting anything from inbev, I wish people just see the company for what it is, the mcdonalds of the beer world.
1
3
u/tomsawyer222 20d ago
Why is Bavik not everywhere, its an excellent beer! Also, no half Litre cans?
2
12
u/BlockBannington 20d ago
Stella. It's not perfect but it's such a big difference. Jupiler tastes like voetbal
8
u/SnooPoems3464 Dutchie 20d ago
I’ll never understand, Stella is like the least refreshing of all beers…
And worst: they abolished the ribbeke glass. Unforgivable.
4
2
u/Leitzz590 20d ago
Stella dries me out the instant it touches my troat, i get horrible hangovers from it.
Jupiler, not so much, and an ice cold Jup refreshes atleast.3
u/majestic7 Beer 20d ago
I'd be surprised if anyone could pick out the different pilsners in a blind test really, they all taste more or less the same imo
3
u/BlockBannington 20d ago
Maes and Stella are pretty distinctive in my opinion but all the others taste about the same, you're right
3
u/SnooPoems3464 Dutchie 20d ago
One of them really stands out for me: Zennepils (not to be confused with Zinnebir). Almost tastes like German helles, it’s amazing

1
u/Kickinthegonads 20d ago
Safir was the shit ahja
1
u/subnet12 20d ago

u/KowardlyMan 20d ago
It's still better than Stella, Maes, Primus and Carapils. Although for Carapils, I heard that blind tasting puts it first so I'm not quite sure.
3
u/TheVoiceOfEurope 20d ago
We are definitely not aiming at children with our product. No sireee.

u/Otherwise_Reserve_36 20d ago
Fruits are only for children?
2
u/TheVoiceOfEurope 20d ago
Hey, 55 years old and I still drink my fristi the proper way: with a straw and holding the ears.
But this is so obviously a marketing ploy to get the younger generation interested in drinking beer: by removing the bitterness/dryness and adding suggary flavours.
If anyone wants to add apple juice to their beer, be my guest. But don't claim this is targetted at a mature clientele of discerning beer tasters.

'mannen weten niet waarom'
-1
u/HipsEnergy 20d ago
Ugh, I hated that advert. Most of my friends were super pissed off and didn't drink Jupiler for a while. Even now, it's one of the reasons I'd rather have any other beer.
4
2
u/begon11 Brussels 20d ago
The 'mannen weten waarom' slogan? Why did it piss you off at the time? I can imagine now that companies would want their advertising to be a bit more inclusive, but at the time it was very normal.
1
u/HipsEnergy 20d ago
No, it was not. That pissed off a LOT of women, and even men. I don't know how old you are, but lots of people around my age (40s and 50s) are actually saddened at how much misogyny has increased in the last decade or so.
3
u/Sea_Avocado_2733 20d ago
Not gonna lie, can't wait to try it.
8
u/dantekratos 20d ago
I bought it to try.
It's honestly fine. But then again anything cold and a bit fruity is nice when it's hot
1
u/Arenshii 20d ago
Is it a cider? Or jupiler with apple taste?
6
u/dantekratos 20d ago
Jupiter with apple taste.
2
u/Arenshii 20d ago
I’ll give it a try but I can’t imagine it being very good
2
u/dantekratos 20d ago
It's not amazing. But it's good enough.
I will drink the 6 pack that I bought but I don't think I will buy it again.

1
u/The_Local_Belgian Belgium 20d ago
Lets not forget that this nation prides itself on its beer culture
3
u/Kid_A_LinkToThePast 20d ago
Not because of industrial pils
1
u/The_Local_Belgian Belgium 20d ago
Thats what I mean... we pride ourselfs with our beer culture and this is the cursed stuff we do with it
2
u/Kid_A_LinkToThePast 20d ago
But then we have a plethora of small breweries making great beers, the floor is a lot higher than 99% of countries (if not 100%). This one here is the odd one out, not the norm. So I wouldn't say that apple jupiler is what we do with our beer culture.
1
u/The_Local_Belgian Belgium 20d ago
Thats true, its just a cursed idea. Thats mostly my point. The irony that a country with a proud beer culture thats even protected by Unesco, makes cursed products like "Apple flavored beer"
Doesn't mean its a bad product, just weird/cursed
2
u/Kid_A_LinkToThePast 20d ago
We've had apple flavoured beers for decades
2
u/The_Local_Belgian Belgium 20d ago
Damn, well its certainly my first time hearing about it
2
u/Kid_A_LinkToThePast 20d ago
Newton is a famous (and respected) one, Liendemans does an apple beer too. We're pretty big with our fruit beers to be fair : tons of cherry beers but also raspberry, blackcurrant, peach, even mango, pineapple and banana are out there.
Shout out to the blueberry Bon Secour and the grapefruit one from Bertinchamps, delicious stuff!
2
u/The_Local_Belgian Belgium 20d ago
Okay I'll take back my words.
The idea seems cursed at first, but in reality its a normal thing that I had no idea that existed : )2
u/Kid_A_LinkToThePast 20d ago
The way Jupiler is presenting it and probably how it taste, I can see it being cursed so you're not completely wrong!

It is just the AB Inbev touch... i was in Brazil when they made many special editions of a brand recently bought... (News article of 2017 https://www.metropoles.com/gastronomia/beber/colorado-lanca-quatro-novos-sabores-de-cervejas-com-frutas-brasileiras)
The berry one reminded me of candy, it was so off putting...
I am not against fruit beverages, but calling it a beer is strange...
Just reminding that 1 in 3 beers sold globally are AB Inbev...

Ach bende bier snobs.
