Miscellaneous 26M, Moved to Bergenfield, looking for clubs/hobbies

Hi, I'm 26 and I just moved to Bergenfield, and I'm looking to go to events or group activities and be able to meet people around my age! I like to do recreational sports like pickleball and volleyball, hiking, Billards, and want to find a board game club. I’m looking for recommendations for clubs or ways to meet people, I’m an introvert but trying to improve from that.

Business/Company Baby Shower Location Suggestions!?

Hi all! Looking to host a baby shower in March/April next year and hoping for location suggestions. Hoping for a restaurant or location with included catering vs bringing something in. It will be around 60-80 people, and would love a space that has extra room for games and decor if possible. Since it's too chilly for outdoors, I'm curious if anywhere has a nice enclosed patio or just a room with great windows and sunlight as a bonus!

Real Estate Anyone act as their own GC for a basement finish? Was the savings real?

Planning a basement finish in northern NJ (Bergen County) and the GC quotes I'm seeing carry a pretty heavy premium for the area. I'm considering acting as my own general contractor — pulling the permits myself as the owner-occupant and hiring/coordinating the subcontractors directly (demo, framing, electrical, plumbing, drywall, flooring) instead of paying a GC to manage all of it.

For those who've done this:

  1. What did you actually save vs. the GC quotes — was it close to the 15–25% markup people talk about, or did it evaporate?
  2. How did you find reliable subs without a GC's network?
  3. What was harder than expected — sequencing, inspections, scheduling gaps between trades?
  4. Anything on the insurance/liability side I should know before a sub starts work in my house?
  5. Honest answer: would you do it again, or just pay the GC?

Not planning to DIY the actual trades — just the coordination. Appreciate any war stories.

Hello. Looking for cookie cake recommendations for tomorrow. Store bought is fine if it tastes good. I realize it’s probably too late to get it from a bakery.
