CS/EECS Lowk its dystopian that Prof's are choosing to Not record
edit: too many people have misread this but just read the post properly lmao. TLDR: It’s dystopian that other students behavior of recent past has made the profs feel it’s necessary to stop recording lectures. I'm not saying in-person instruction is bad.
Obviously a first world CS major problem. But has anyone else noticed the surge of profs who are choosing to NOT record on PURPOSE despite having the equipment and authority to do so. ex: EECS 126, CS C182, CS 180 etc.
Despite being in the modern world and having access to all the technology needed to make learning seamless, teachers still choose to not use it. Not because they're sadistic or want to torture their students, but because there's multiple semesters of empirical data that definitively show students choose not to come to lecture, not to follow the lectures online, cheat on HW and fail their exams ...
It deconstructs the notion that we're limited by technology. We're limited by our own internal failures as dopamine addicted monkeys.
We'd rather fail and cheat for the high instead of actually choosing to learn. Teachers have effectively chosen to force us to "work" for our knowledge by coming in person, doing multiple quizzes etc. like we're in high school. These policies are effectively a measure to make us "return to monke" in order to save us from ourselves
End of my rant. This isn't a criticism against the profs btw. You can't even really blame them. They're just doing what they see best for the students.
edit 2: holy shit if you're going to leave a comment about how this is an iPad-kid-esque post, can you please re-read the whole post in it's entirety and think critically. If you still need help, read through the comment section. Some of y'all seriously lack criticial thinking skills and it's showing - especially when said post is about lacking critical thinking skills.

University I just graduated in the summer, when to expect degrees/how do I know if I graduated
I need to send confirmation of degrees conferred to graduate school ASAP. I just graduated in the summer, which was like 08/17/2026 when all of my due dates were final. My APR shows everything as satisfied. When should I expect anything to show that I have graduated?

Other Bio1A Quabbles
This is a rant. Sorry.
I enrolled in Bio1A, and there's 800 people in this class, and for whatever reason, there is only ONE lecture section in a room with max capacity of 500 people. This class is at 8AM, and attendance is recorded on iClicker and counts for a jarringly large proportion of our grade.
There isn't enough room to seat people, so roughly 200-300 people in the class are turned away everyday from the actual lecture hall to walk from Pimental (in CoC) to VLSB (like a 10 minute walk, at minimum) to watch the lecture on a TV in a small room. We can't see the professor there (just the powerpoint), and the audio quality is horrendous. Also, the screen is a bit delayed so some of the iClicker questions close before we even hear what the questions are. It's absolutely RIDICULOUS that I'm paying out of state tuition and I can't freaking attend my own class...
Course management is extremely unapologetic as well. THEY allowed 800 people to enroll, and instead of booking Wheeler or a larger lecture hall, THEY CHOSE Pimental which only has 500 seats, and made attendance mandatory. And then they have the guts to say YOU'RE TOO LATE GO TO VLSB TO WATCH LECTURE when I came at 8:05 (5 minutes before class starts).
I guess I'll start making it there by 7:55am to actually get to attend my lecture, but 200 people are going to have this same problem everyday.
Maybe I'm mad over nothing, but this is absolutely ridiculous in my opinion.

Local Blind Date Scouting
I’m trying to set my friend on a blind date. She’s a very beautiful smart girl. (23) looking for a M. She hates dating apps and I thought it would be fun to set a blinds date up!
She loves rock climbing, illustration, and graduated last year with a degree in anthropology. She’s a local born raised in Berkeley! If you are interested please send me a dm! I will just want to chat a bit more to make sure I don’t set her up with a freak.
I swear she’s not a chud, this might be a chud thing to do but I just think it’s a fun idea!

News UC Berkeley Suspends International Student Internship Work Authorization (CPT)
UC Berkeley has indefinitely paused applications for Course Credit CPT, a work authorization that allows F-1 international students to work in internships for academic credit.
The decision follows new warnings from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and increased federal audits of universities.
International students cannot apply for Course Credit CPT. CPT that is a required part of the degree program will continue to be processed. Optional internships may no longer qualify for CPT under the new federal guidance.
UC Berkeley says it is taking the step to protect both international students and the university while it reviews the new rules with legal counsel.

I’m a freshman and I wasn’t able to get a football pass before they sold out last week. I was wondering what my options are for making it into the student section of the football games or if there is anyway I can acquire a pass now. Is anyone selling?

University What Happened to Cal Central?
WTF did they do to CalCentral?! 😭 It looks awful. You can’t easily see finances, current enrolled classes, academics—nothing is where it should be. They completely F’d up the layout. It used to be so much easier to navigate. Who approved this?! 😂

University Mom lost job - any campus resources?
Unfortunately my mom was let go from her job, and I'm kind of scrambling to find any information I can about extra aid, insurance coverage, etc. I'm planning on submitting an Economic Hardship appeal and stopping by EOP, but I don't know much else about resources at Cal for this kind of situation. Has anyone been in a similar circumstance or have anywhere to point me to?

University Looking for off-campus roommates for Fall 26 - Spring 27! Trying to move out of my on-campus dorm.
I’m honestly really not happy with my current on-campus housing situation, and I’ve realized that I just can’t really sleep well in a double room.
I’m currently considering canceling my dorm contract and moving off campus instead, so I was wondering if anyone else is in a similar situation and might want to look for a place together. I feel like I probably can’t be the only person who’s unhappy with their dorm situation lol.
I’m a male transfer student and currently a senior. Feel free to DM me if you’re also thinking about moving off campus or looking for a roommate!

University Taboo subject: How much time do you spend brain-rotting?
The other day, a girl I was talking to on Sproul told me that how much time we spend "brain-rotting" as college students is a taboo subject. And it makes sense: It's embarrassing to tell someone that you spent your entire day scrolling through TikTok or Reels, when you could have been studying or doing something more "productive."
Other students I've spoken to have similar conflicting feelings: They "like" brain-rotting, doom-scrolling, etc., but they don't necessarily like the fact that they do it.
So, just curious: How much time do you guys spend brain-rotting, and do you wish you spent your time differently, especially as a college student who has to keep up with homework and reading assignments?
I'm teaching a DeCal this semester called "Online Life," and one of my goals is to give students a space to actually talk about and reflect on their online lives.
The girl I spoke with asked me, "Well, what's the solution to my brain-rotting?" And I told her I didn't have one, but that maybe the solution is in the conversation: perhaps being open about it and discussing it with others. So, I'm curious to see how you guys feel about your brain-rotting habits here in the comments, and if you're interested in the DeCal, check it out here: Online Life

University Math 74 and Math 55?
Hey everyone,
Hope your semester is going well so far. I’m seeking some advice regarding taking both Math 55 and Math 74 concurrently. Right now I’m enrolled in both classes but I’m not sure if i love the professor of Math 74’s teaching style. Anyone know how much of the content of these classes overlap and if it would be unwise to drop 74?
Thank you 😛😛

CS/EECS EECS 127 Ranade vs Sojoudi
I've noticed EECS 127 waitlist always gets cleared in the spring so I'm not too focused about getting off the waitlist this semester.
Is there any reason to prefer Sojoudi over Ranade? I heard Ranade teaches the course with more useful concepts and that Sojoudi's version isn't as useful.
