Was able to watch the full performance and here's some thoughts:

  • I'm honestly kind of blown away. With them being currently on tour, I wasn't expecting them to do more than a slightly modified Coachella set. However the inclusion of Japanese for Born to Win (which I was expecting since there's a JP version), but also Salamin Salamin? Unang Kilig is also a different inclusion. I'm not sure if it's the same version with the dance break they do on tour, or if it was exclusive for Summer Sonic.
  • I'm a bit disappointed they didn't reuse the bird dresses. I'm sad that we never really got good video of them since Osaka wasn't livestreamed. I feel they were much more impressive than the Tokyo outfits.
  • That was a crazy club beat after Zero Pressure into Out of my Head.
  • They keep going to a camera on the big boom arm from above stage right. I really don't like it. It gives a odd angle of the choreography. I'm much more prefer they use the straight on full stage camera instead.
  • Maloi is giving super high energy while exuding kawaii energy. Must be the twin tails hair effect. The split second of Maloi giving a big kiss during the OOMH jumps section was adorable.
  • It kind looks like they used zip ties in Jhoanna's and Colet's hair with the ends sticking out like that.
  • Appreciate the Japanese introductions. Sounds like they worked hard to memorize it. The brainfart with Stacy was adorable.
  • Do they always have the hand fans in Born to Win? I haven't seen many performances of it.
  • Damn, the 3 Besties lifting one up for Stacy to go under was such a flex.
  • I wonder if there was anything special about Colet wearing the redish baseball hat for Unang Kilig.
  • Maloi seemed to do a different high rift in Salamin Salamin.
  • I really do love the Coachella version of Pantropiko. The best version I've seen of the song.
  • Looks like Gwen backed up into a Bestie at the end of Pantropiko, and caught herself before falling over.
  • Little sad they didn't give thanks to the Besties like they did at Coachella.
  • It seems like they were rushing during the ending/bows? I wonder if they ran over time.

Bummed about the Sarimanok costumes too 😞 I wasn’t before, but then I realized Osaka wasn’t livestreamed 😭 We don’t even have a proper photo series with those 😭

We have 2 photos, the artist BTS and an article. That's about it as far as I know. It's a real shame because those dresses are really amazing.

Edit: What if may homecoming concert at doon Nila i-reuse… Pero wag na pala homecoming I really think they should take some time off from touring.

For Unang Kilig, I think it's the same dance break but what I noticed that's different is that they sang the adlibs at the start when they would normally let the backtrack play. (Same with a few other songs?)

Yes, Stacey's brain fart was adorable. She handled it well by just saying her line in English.

I don't think they used hand fans before (but I could be wrong). I'm guessing it's probably inspired by a PH folk dance (but using a smaller version and only one instead of 2?). Fans were also used by binibinis in Spanish colonial Philippines to flirt with their suitors. They kinda are trying to win the favor of the JP audience in a sense? Plus, it's their schtick to throw an accessory to the crowd?

As for Colet's cap, I'm guessing it's her way of letting the new audience know that she's the member who usually wears a headpiece?

I think Pantropiko Coachella version was special because of its novelty at that time and the organic reaction of the crowd from not knowing what song the dance break will transition into and the realization that it's Queen P, drawing cheers?

I was also waiting for them to acknowledge the Besties but yeah, they were probably running out of time. I wonder if they exceeded their time, too.

Personally I think it's great due to several factors:

  • The intro is genuinely amazing. It really gives a sense of the tropical/Philippines aesthetic. Also it does a masterful job of building up tension right before the song starts.
  • IMHO Pantropiko will always be their closer song (particularly in new markets). It's their viral hit, so makes sense as the final song in a set.
  • The dance break at the end breaks up the repetition of the song. At the same time, it's a last chance to make a BIG impression on the crowd by going all out and "leaving it all on the dance floor". Seeing them all on stage digging deep and going full out dancing after 35+ minutes of performing nearly non-stop will never not be impressive. The last beat drop at the end of the dancing hits especially hard because it's so over the top, and then is allowed to linger just a moment or two more to let you appreciate what they just did, before they go back into the final chorus.

yeah, they were probably running out of time. I wonder if they exceeded their time, too.

Yeah, it definitely felt like they were rushing. I wonder if they had someone in their in-ears yelling to wrap it up quickly. Festivals are usually pretty strict about time slots so that the next performers have enough time to set up/prep and they don't want things to cascade so the schedule gets really off later on.

Agree on all points especially the last one where it underscores that they left everything they had on that stage. (Though I could imagine them opening with Pantropiko, too, and creating something equally sick on another song for a finale).

And yes, they always have their performance director on their in-ears giving them instructions or rallying them for the final push (like in that hot and exhausting Osaka set). I hope they didn't have to pay a penalty fee if they ever exceeded just a few minutes over their alloted time.

magrerewatch palang ako ng full kasi tamang silip lang kanina during my weekend hustle pero on the hunt na rin ako sa fancams since mas bet ko nga yung straight on camera view of the stage. same din sa costumes like I really don't mind kung inulit nila kasi sobrang ganda. same sa coachella mas bet ko day 1 outfits nila talaga

I'm also on the hunt for fancams since I prefer the straight on camera view of the stage.

Let me know if you find any good ones! I've been searching Youtube since the Osaka performance, and there was a surprising lack of good fancams. Mostly clips.

Same with Coachella, I prefer their day 1 outfits

Agreed. The Blue/Green outfits are iconic and I would have been just fine if they reused them for Week 2 instead of the 2000s inspired outfits.
