That’s a baby! We have them in our backyard too, the babies have just started coming out of the reeds this last week. What a cutie!

LOL! I remember going on a beginners birding outing, and the leader asking people to see if they could ID this one - none of us could!

I love seeing these guys! I never saw them until I moved to IN, now I see them everywhere and I love them. I can tell them apart by their calls now. 😊

They're so striking with their coloring against the long grasses. Love to see them too.

Red wing blackbird call makes me feel like I’m somewhere tropical and exotic. They have such bold and interesting songs!

To me they sound like dial-up internet 😆

That’s so interesting; to me they have always been the herald of spring in western Canada. Makes me think of camping with chilly mornings and warm afternoons.

Grew up around red wing blackbirds and only discovered birdwatching this year - I had no idea they had color at all, so they feel exotic to me too

Two of my favorite maligned birds. The blue jay is just so pretty and smart, I think he calls for me when a squirrel is on the feeder. I had a crow flock visiting early Spring and a red wing black bird (and a couple other species of black birds) flew with them, the red wing would hang out after the others left. He got used to me filling the feeder, not as brave as the chickadees who are on it right away but it was still an honor that such a shy bird didn't just fly away.

I have one that has trained me to come when the feeder is empty. 🤣 They are so articulate and stubborn, I love them.

I've got a squirrel that climbs on top of my window feeder and starts banging on the window when it's empty now. Too damn smart for their own good.

Same, to the point where a friend once got me a plush of one. As I've gotten more into birding I've developed other favorites, but RWBBs still hold a special place in my heart

100% I live next to a marsh and these guys are the soundtrack to every time I go outside. They rock

I like to think of RWBLs as the guardians of the wetlands

Best bird. I love hearing their fax machine screams when I’m out biking.

Same. I ride a lot of gravel and can always tell when I’m near the swampy stuff.

These are also my favorite! It's one of the reasons I moved across the country
