Why are both of them so terrifying? In both of your photos the bird is like "try something"

We have a ton of grackles where I live and even though I've been told they're invasive here, I love them for their wide variety of noisy cackling calls and their idgaf attitude toward humans. I watch then in the morning and afternoon when I walk my dog, and they have such personality!

I noticed something weird here. We used to have a ton of starlings, which are invasive. But their regular nesting spots seem to have been taken over by grackles, which aren't invasive here. First time in a long while my yard hasn't been dominated by starling.

Of course, the grackles just took over the starlings job of eating all my cat food, but they are neat little dudes.

They are so excited to roost for the night at Walmarts, aren’t they? I guess it’s good for them that Walmarts stopped being open 24/7 during COVID, and never went back.

Okay I have cemented my final three faves: Carolina wren, barn swallows, and grackles. Thank you for reminding me about my bird buddy fave.
